Wetzel:A year after deflate-gate ballooned, science shows shame of it all

Dan Wetzel has been supporting the Pats and attacking Goodell since day 1 of this ridiculous saga.

Sally Jenkins from the Washington Post and him are probably the only two reporters that were exposing the farce and defending Brady when everyone else was trying to ruin his legacy.

you mean the only two reporters outside of NE?

If no, you forgot to include the local guys - Tom Curran, Eric Wilbur etc - who have done a fantastic job!

You have to wonder what Goodell is thinking right now.

**** I SPENT 5 MILLION FOR A WASTE OF 8 MONTHS

It was all for not Roger

I cannot wait for him to hand the Lombardi to Brady in front of 100 million people.

And than hopefully Brady hitting him over the head with it!

This is all wonderful that people are coming around to the fact that "deflategate" was BS and all, BUT what about the draft picks and the investigation of how this all ensued. I will never be okay with any of it until this has been resolved and answered. I do not believe for a second that the NFL will ever renege as long as Goodell is in charge.

When do we get our draft picks back?
Regarding this, can Bob Kraft still flip-flip and oppose the ruling (since the draft hasn't happened, I'm assuming our picks haven't officially been taken away)? Or is there a statute of limitations on Goodell rulings?

Bob, if you see this.... you already flip-flipped on your own fans. We KNOW you're essentially a politician. No one would blame you for flip-flipping on Goodell, you know, the guy who has relentlessly tried to handicap your team.

The people who actually matter to him might get upset, though.

He's obviously a guy who is used to making calculated decisions with his head, not his heart. I assume that's part of becoming that financially successful. He's had a year to think it over, and there's no way he's going to address it DURING the season, if he can help it.

Hopefully, his heart creeps into that decision making process this time. I want to wake up to a Bob Kraft press conference on 2/8/16.

I believe Bob Kraft and Bill Belichek are smart men. Smart men would have seen this coming a mile away, and would do what smart people tend to do, anticipate the situation and have things in place for it. Therefore, I hope they're smart, and have already got a completely independent high-profile University Physics Department on hand at the first cold, wet outdoor game to ensure that a real world science experiment with irrefutable evidence is available for when the BS NFL report comes out.

I thought this was an excellent piece. However the article falls 2 questions short of being really impactful. First, "Why are the Pats still being robbed of their #1 draft pick, when clearly nothing happened? " At what point did the NFL have to come to realize they were wrong, and continued the persecution and slander of Brady?"

He really did a great job pointing out the scientific side of this, but had he asked those 2 questions and called for 354 Park Ave to answer them; it would have been perfect.

They aren't coming back and what we as Patriot fans have to count on is the scientific community and some media shredding any propoganda the league office throws at the team. That's all we get?

Even the current issue that will be litigated by the courts will have more to do with Roger's power under their collective bargaining agreement than it will to do with the science.. usually in Federal Court public opinion is not all that important..

When all is said and done, not sure anything will ever change.. the NFL boys do not like the Patriots, and their original intent was BB.. they could not get to him, so they chose the next best thing.

If the NFL was concerned with the science they would have weighed all footballs prior to, in the middle of and immediately after every football game last year.. but they do not want that information.

I heard on the radio how important all of this was, as Bertram was saying last weekend that the refs forgot the footballs and gauge in their hotel rooms.. guard them with your lives boys..

The appeal is going to be about the arbitration process in this case and then Clements will try to make it about deference to arbitration as a whole and ramifications to arbitration it they don't overturn. They want it as abstract as possible and Kessler wants it focused on the role Goodell and Pash played in abusing the process

From the article:
Dan Wetzel said:
The most damning rebuke is from Dr. John Leonard, one of numerous professors at MIT who have tackled this case. In a popular YouTube video, the Philadelphia Eagles fan doesn't just blast Exponent's conclusions but shows the flawed methodology that failed to account for how atmospheric pressure impacted the footballs that were measured at halftime. He basically calls them hacks, and when he fixes their mistake, he essentially closes the argument out. In the months-old video he asks Exponent to explain itself. To date, it hasn't. Apparently no one has disagreed with Leonard's findings.

"The Colts' balls were as much out of range as the Patriots' balls," Leonard told a class on the deflate-gate at UNH, according to the Boston Globe. "It's pretty much an open-and-shut case, but somehow [commissioner Roger] Goodell never understood it, and still doesn't to this day."

Interested, I wanted to watch this video of the lecture where MIT professor Dr John Leonard blasts the NFL. Having done so I thought some of you might be interested in the links.

Smartly Abridged Edition: 15 minutes

Full Lecture: 1 hour 26 minutes

The full 1 hour and 26 minute lecture is very damning of the NFL's science. It completely debunks any possibility that the Patriots artificially deflated their footballs. However, it's not going to be the kind of link you can throw at a hater/non-believer as proof of this simply because they would never ever finish watching it.

The abridged/edited version is only 15 minutes and whomever put it together did a wonderful job of keeping in what I personally thought were important key moments in Dr Leonards lecture while cutting out the non-essentials and making the whole thing much more viewer-friendly.

As punishment to the rest of the league, nature and whatever forces that are out there should let us win 5 Superbowls in a role.
