Scouting Report: Jason Spriggs, OT

Couldn't agree more.
Glad to see someone else is a fan too. I think we have seen in recent years guys like him get pushed up into the first round. Lot of good things to work with there.

I really like Spriggs as well. But like you said: He's most likely not available when the Patriots pick.

Let me just throw a couple of names your way, midwestpatsfan. Kyle Murphy (OT) & Tyler Higbee (TE).

If you get the chance during the next few months to make scouting reports on these guys, that would be great. I would definitely like to know what you think of them.

LT85,
I actually did a report on Murphy earlier and should be somewhere down the page, let me know if you can't find it.
I have not done any TE work yet, but have watched some Higbee and early notes are positive.

@ Midwestpatsfan

Ok, I found it :) Sorry for missing it.

Higbee is my binky so far. Think he would be great for this team. Hope you get time for a report on him.

By the way, thumbs up for all the work you're doing on these reports. I've been lurking on your site for as long as I have this site.

Spriggs is an ideal offensive tackle for a zone blocking scheme like we employ.

While I doubt he drops to us at #63, I think some teams will pass on him because he is a zone blocking tackle and not a run mauler.

Murphy is a guy that should be there at #63 and while not from s zone blocking scheme, he could contribute immediately for us, if need be.

What I like about Murphy too is that like you said, he doesn't come from a zbs, but he shows the athleticism to do so.

Thanks for the kind words LT85, I am glad you are enjoying them.

If we take Murphy at #63, he is an instant upgrade over cannon as both a pass protector and run mauler.

Another guy I like is the offensive guard from Ohio state. I usually stay away from urban meet players as they are usually maxed out prior to the draft, (whoever drafts bosa will learn that the hard way) but I think the offensive guard is an instant upgrade over both Jackson and mason.

I just saw a mock draft that had spriggs going at 31 to Denver so thats alittle bit of a letdown. But I'm starting to like Murphy and think he could be a stud with us.

I was wondering go the guard was that you were talking about. But I think I like masons upside. He's pretty good at run blocking and think he's coming along on pass blocking. But as for tre Jackson, I would look into bringing someone into compete with him.

I would point out that BB likes cannon much better than fans do. He was saying nice things about him after the game Saturday, that being said I think they will look at tackles but depending on how they feel about Fleming maybe not as high as we have them doing so

I love Stanford offense. So yes on Trent Murphy, yes on McCaffrey whenever he declares, I also am one of the few that likes Fleming, and I still deep down have expectations that Tyler Gaffney will be the bruiser, in between the tackles RB this team needs!

well we will have a better shot next year at McCaffery considering thats the earliest he can declare and we will have a first round pick

Do you mean Pat Elflein? Pretty sure he's chosen to stay in school I'm afraid.

I am liking the idea of Austin Hooper as well. Going to be interesting where he falls in the draft. He doesnt have tremendous size, but I think he has good athleticsm and smarts. Seems to do a lot of the little things I like in TEs.

The lack of experience could be a plus or minus for him as well.
