When the Welker debate was going on my belief was that the most important piece Brady needs to be successful is a receiver who can literally get open instantly and repeatedly and Seller was that guy, and depriving Brady of that piece would stop drives and force Brady to take a serious beating, and I still believe that to be the case. And while I liked Edelman he had issues with durability and his hand weren't as good as Welkers. I thought Belichick was making a big mistake letting him walk, especially to Denver. I was happy however that they signed Amendola because he could give them the quick hitting receiver Brady thrives with. I was also happy that Edelman returned because he would give them insurance if Amendola were injured, what I didn't realize was just how good a player Edelman was going to turn himself and when Amendola tie his groin in Buffalo it gave Edelman his chance and since that day Edelman has become one of the best players in football and one of the most important players in the league. Regardless of the numbers Edelman has become a better player than Welker was, he's tougher than Welker, and that's saying something because Welker was tough tough player, but he also brings a dimension with his explosiveness that Welker never really had, and while Welker was a tough guy to cover Edelman cannot be covered with one guy. As Ninkovich said yesterday Edelman has "the heart of a lion, " and that can't be be undersold, like Brady he simply won't be denied and that winter stink is a big reason they continue to pile up wins and are adding to their Championships. Welker may have had the edge in stats but if you are talking about each player at their best Edelman is a better overall player.
