Patriot Way Coming to the Detroit Lions Under the Direction of Norwood's Bob Quinn

There have been rumors that Josh McDaniels is interested in the Titans job. He did not interview for any other coaching opening. The Titans still have an opening, and now their GM is a former Patriots colleague (although I think they only overlapped by 2 years). Potential landing spot?

Thats where my money is.

In 2008 they lost the 32nd and still retained SF's #7 choice which they trade to NO and draft Mayo while the Jets drafted Gholston at #6. I don't recall their being language in the punishment this time calling for the higher of the draft choices. What would the league do with a draft day trade? Stop the draft and say NE trades up up loses their pick but now have the 32nd? Not that I wouldn't put it past them but it seems unrealistic.

I would just say that I'm desperately hoping they find a way to trade into Cleveland's spot at 32. Technically a second round pick so can't be taken from us but would also be our spot if we win the SB. That would be a kick in the teeth for Goodell.

From the NFL statement:

For the violation of the playing rules and the failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation, the New England Patriots are fined $1 million and will forfeit the club's first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft and the club's fourth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. If the Patriots have more than one selection in either of these rounds, the earlier selection shall be forfeited. The club may not trade or otherwise encumber these selections.

And in answer to your hypothetical, that's exactly what would happen.

Man......I've read that 50 times over the past few months and I still can't believe how such an injustice can be done.

They claim Murlarkey is still the favorite in Tenn.
With schwartz as dc
We shall see

Yea I don't question Stafford's talent. I question his ability to be a game manager and lead.

For 14 years we've been privileged to watch the GoAT all time every Sunday. For every QB to be held to that standard is impossible so I don't want to be too harsh in my judgement.
Well if he's anything like his aunt who I had as an English teacher, then his leadership is probably pretty questionable lol.

Hopefully ugly rumors and nothing more.
If this happens Tenn easily becomes my second team to cheer for.
Josh please stay lol

Come on ownership dont let the new GM hire the coach stick with the original plan Murlarkey.

Definitely would prefer to keep our coordinators but change can be good and Daboll has been waiting a few years to replace Josh so we'll be fine. Hate to lose him though.

Going to Detroit and inheriting Stafford wreaks of going to Denver and inheriting Cutler.

Yea they aren't ideal by any stretch.

I think if I were to rank them...

1) Titans- Bud Adams is pretty much out of the picture with his daughter Amy running things who seems to have a strong business mind. Of course Mariota is there and they look to have a healthy cap situation in 2016.

2) Detroit- While Mrs. Ford is in her 80's, she seems to have turned the reigns over to Quinn to run. I'm assuming Quinn and Josh would get along great. DET has a good QB (leadership questionable) and decent talent sprinkled around the roster. My issue with DET is that they are not a solid team financially.

3) While it looks like Robinson is going there and they have a ton of cap space in 2016 plus a high pick coming, there is just something about Winston and the Glazer kids that is just off. It should seem like the best situation of the 3 but something tells me to stay away.

1) I really don't know much about the Titans situation since is one of the teams I don't follow and only watch games when it's against the Pats. The division seems to be a mess for years to come and building a decent team must be enough to take it and then go one and done in January. So it's a good situation to start a new process.

2) Stafford has the talent and physical skills, as far as calling him a good QB this is becoming more and more questionable, he has some good games and some stinkers, too inconsistent. Can't read a defense, Detroit's game plan has been QB under center, 5 steps back and bomb to Megatron. I don't know if it's all about coaching, I think the guy can do a few things and these few things he does quite well, but all the other QB traits he lacks. Also Detroit sucks and the Lions suck and this factor can't be overlooked.

3) Winston had some good games but bad games too, as expected for a rookie. If I'm not mistaken some of Bucs wins came in low scoring games so I would think the defense played a big part on those wins. Strong running game too. He looks good but I need to see a lot more thinking from a JMD possible point of view. Also Florida teams, all impatient in developing a long term philosophy of work.

The 49ers job seems to be interesting but I don't know something doesn't look well there, looks like they are not desperate to win and are ok to just be another team in the NFL.

I remember before the draft how everyone said Green-Beckham wouldn't have a chance to learn the Patriots offense (if we were to draft him). Now the Patriots offense may be coming to him. Interesting to see how/if that works out. They actually have two high upside WR in him and Hunter but both not able to "get" a complex offense.

If I'm McDaniels, I would be wary of the Titans due to the ownership situation. When Bud Adams died, he left the team to his 3 daughters with no "managing partner". That's a big no-no with the NFL (unless you're the Rooneys who were grandfathered in, and even that was rectified a few years back). There is a strong possibility the NFL may force them to sell. In that case, McDaniels could be looking at the next Woody Johnson buying the team. I suspect Belichick has cautioned Josh about that given his Jets experience, but at the end of the day it's Josh's decision and not Bill's.

Very true, hope Josh stays and Murlarkey is the guy all along.
On the other hand should Josh leave would love to see Chip come on as a coaching assistant with the thought to possibly succeed BB.

Looks like it's guaranteed. Next question is how it affects Josh.

That would be great. In this scenario I'd say that #32 is even worth more than the last pick of the first round because you get an entire night to think about it.

Alternatively, like I suggested once we could arrange for another team to draft someone in the first round and then trade him to us against some (future) asset.

There are a couple ways around not being able to draft a first rounder.

This is where we thought he would go all along.
However supposedly one of the caveats of Robinson getting the job he had to be willing to hire Mularkey.
However hiring him and willing to hire him are 2 completely different things.
Titans fans seem to all want Mcdaniels but players and owners like Murlarkey.
The fact Robinson and Josh have worked together makes the puzzle fit.
My guess is they try to have Mcdaniels as hc with Murlarley as oc.
If they do that this is a dangerous recipe for Josh knowing the man felt like the job was his to lose.
Thank god we keep Patricia I really want to keep Mcdaniels heres hoping Murlarkey confidence is justified and not a bunch of doo doo.
Thought I was going to say Murlarkey didnt you?

Patriot Way Coming to the Detroit Lions Under the Direction of Norwood's Bob Quinn

Looong Freep article with some interesting behind-the-scenes look at what it calls the "Ivy League" of scouting as Bob Quinn takes the reigns as the Lions new GM after rising through the ranks of the Belichick Era in Foxboro.

New Lions GM graduated from ‘Ivy League of scouting’

I feel like there's only one direction left for the Detroit Lions to go: up.
