Official Post-Divisional Round game vs KC Thread

Hmm let's look at Brady's group right now...

WR1: 7th round pick (Edelman)
WR2: UDFA (Amendola)
WR3: 4th round pick (Martin)
TE1: 2nd round pick (Gronk)
TE2: 7th round pick (Williams)

Seems like Brady is doing fine... Note that two of the above named were traded away by their teams for basically nothing, which is almost the same as being released, so...

Doesn't hurt when you draft the GOAT of tight ends in the 2nd round.

Since there was some GF2 discussion going on where I was watching the game (even though it didn't get to a 15 point game in the 4th quarter, though it was in the 3rd) I'll throw this out there:

Knowledge is power. You need to get a two-point conversion at some point, and knowing whether you’re going to convert is important information. There is no reasonable reason not to go for 2 after your first touchdown. Yes, missing out on the two-point conversion earlier could be demoralizing. But what would you call missing out on a two-point conversion with 5 seconds left when trailing by 2?

There is a reason why coaches fail to go for 2 in this situation, and why smart fans also think it’s correct to take the safe points. It’s because they’re focused on keeping their hope alive as long as possible. As my friend Brian Burke once wrote, “coaches do not coach to maximize their team’s chances of winning. My theory is coaches are delaying elimination until the latest point in the game—that is, trying to “stay in the game” for as long as possible.”

Trailing by 15 in the middle of the 4th quarter, teams are foolish to not go for 2 after touchdowns

I think Danny was thinking he could knock the guy's block off and keep him from downing a ball that he didn't see well enough to field. Looked like primarily a shoulder hit with incidental helmet crown-to-facemask contact. It was hard-nosed, it didn't take the play for granted, and it was a decisive action to take against the opponent. He should know that it's going to get penalized and do it differently...but I don't see how you can have issue with the intent.

Amendola was amped up.

On his first reception he stayed inbounds, turned upfield, lowered his shoulder, and got approximately 0 extra yards for his effort. That's just the way he was rolling for this game.

The only negative that I took away from the game was ST. Every time Gostkowski kicked off, I found myself praying that he would put it out of the end zone so we wouldn't have to sweat a runback.

Good win today. Congrats to the Chiefs on a strong season.

I felt the Pats were going to win the game convincingly and they did. The 11 game win streak was impressive but most of the teams they beat weren't so much.

Edelman is pretty much uncoverable it seems. Some bad drops for sure. However, who can complain with 10 catches 100 yards and the offense looking Patriot like for the first time in awhile. You could argue his presence made Gronkowski,Amendola and LaFell much more effective. Of course Brady's 3rd down completion %age benefitted as well.

The oline still isn't perfect but it looked a lot better in pass protection. Kudos to the players and coaches for getting it patched up. I'm almost resigned to the fact that this team won't be doing any type of effective power running the next two games;)

Brady was robbed on the td and I'm glad he moved his leg in time. Exciting but scary play as well. Punched it in anyway.

Felt the pass interference in the endzone vs Jules should of been called. Very obvious.

Overall I'm thrilled with the victory. although I mentioned I thought they would win convincingly I do admit the 11 game win streak did linger somewhat.

Another meaningless Manning record tied and about to fall. I mean 300 yard games are cool and all but does it really compare to most super bowl victories? Most playoff victories? And for those that follow Manning, don't worry, his one and done appearances record is safe. Tom would have to play another 10 or 12 years at a very low performance rate to touch that one.

Cheers all you happy Pats fans.

For two guys I was expecting some gimping from, both Brady and Gronk seemed quite healthy.

My thoughts

#1 Offense finally looked like itself. Edelman and Gronk make such a difference. Also the OL really stepped up. One of the things no one talked about was Stork going down and Andrews going in. The O didn't miss a beat. Such a nice thing to have

#2 On Defense it is hard to grade it. I am not sure if I want to give it an A or a B tonight. 20 points to KC seems like a lot but that series to not allow any points giving them the ball just outside the 35 was huge. It stepped up when needed to at important spots and though was short handed in the 2nd half a bit it still played well. Hopefully the guys are good to go next week.

#3 STs - This unit didn't do that well. They lost overall but Amendola had a very nice return and looked tuned in all game. Though he was not a huge part of the offensive game plan he is a player the Pats can rely on and does well when given opportunities. He is no Gronk or Edelman but he is a solid player who makes good plays.

#4 Bounces - I can not remember a post season game where the Pats got so many good bounces. KC had their chances but missed them. Knocked up balls and that pass at the end to Gronk that Edelman caught.. The Pats deserved to win this game overall and played better but they got more luck today.

#5 Refs - Honestly I overall love the way this game was called. You can nitpick if you want but the refs did the right thing and mostly swallowed their whistles as much as they reasonably could. That is how i want playoff games to be called. Call the super obvious stuff but let the players determine the game.

Overall I feel very good going int othe AFCCG no matter who we play. This is very much like that Pats team of weeks 1-11 more than 12-17

I thought White was going to being out of bounds on the swing pass down the left side, instead he stayed in bounds and ran for another 20 or so.

That isn't the first time he has done that, and it seems to be part of his game.

It is a very fortuitous development.

One thing I learned: I'd rather watch a football game where the officials make far too few calls than one where they make far too many.
