OT Mort has stage 4 throat Cancer

Lost my brother in law, my former wife, and my daughter to cancer.
God help you Mort, I will be thinking of you. I hope you beat this.

Wow wrangler, everyone here has lost someone they love to cancer (my dad in my case), but you've had it particularly tough. My heart goes out to you

Man, that's brutal. Survival rate on stage IV of any kind of cancer is low, horrible luck getting that diagnosis. Hopefully he beats the odds and pulls through.

I opened this thread prepared to see some pretty ****ty posts, and was encouraged not to find any. Thanks for that everyone, good to have it reaffirmed that we're better than that.
I think you may have missed some.

Unresolved stress and emotional conflict sometimes manifests through disease.Mort may have taken the deflategate fallout hard and was not able to bring himself to speak out about how he was used by the NFL.How ironic that his disease manifests in his throat.God bless you Mort. Speak the truth.Get rid of the burden of lies and get well. The bible warns about spreading gossip and the destructive power of the tongue.

Who the hell is forgiving him in this thread? You're constructing a straw man.
No, I'm offering my personal opinion on the matter. I don't see the need to forgive him so I'm not. The use of I is of paramount importance to what I am stating Kontra.

As a Pats fan, Chris Mortensen is a despicable human being. That being said, being diagnosed with Stage 4 Throat Cancer is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. May he return to health with a better insight on life and a willingness to be the reporter we expect him to be..

I think you may have missed some.

Consider: (A) the depths of appalling you can get on many sports chat boards, (B) Mort himself acted appallingly by actively lying and smearing people (consider how bad this was for the blue collar Dorito Dinks) -- and the anger it justifiably caused on this chat board.

Consider that -- then see how this thread has been very largely supportive of Mort. This is not only worth noting it is a testament to the uncommon level of posting here on Patsfans.

As another stated quite well: Fight this and get better Mort! We look forward to you back on your feet and regaining full health so we can first congratulate you for beating the nightmare that is cancer then we can go back to disliking you.

Don't mess with the Patriots and get better soon

@IcyPatriot I'm sorry for disagreeing with your post. It was disrespectful of me to do so when you were simply giving Mort support.

I am a compassionate person. I am capable of empathy.

Chin up Mort...because you broke the story there's a good chance that you just have a sore throat. Get well.

IMO Mort the ESPN employee is not Chris Mortenson the human who has a family and cancer. Just saying ....

I dig what you're saying and don't get me wrong I don't WISH cancer on him and I'm not pleased to hear that he has cancer . . . I'm just saying I reserve sympathy for people I care about and/or respect. I don't care about or respect him.

The treatment for this is not pleasant and I don't think the survival rates are very good even with treatment.
Even though it's a matter of the public record that he was primarily responsible for starting and exacerbating the Patriots Deflategate problems, I do believe that it's bad karma to say mean spirited things about the misfortune of another, so I'll just wish him and his family well.

I worked with two people that had this disease (maybe not stage4) but in fact did survive. Hoping for the best for Mort.

I'm not going to make comment on his personal situation as cancer isn't a laughing matter but Mort had plenty of opportunities to correct his mistake. He chose not to.

This isn't just to you, it's to every piece of **** that mentioned deflate gate in this thread. ITS A ****ING SPORT. HE'S A JOURNALIST. HE WRITES WHAT SELLS.

This is about a man who has cancer, not about any ****ing sports controversy.
When someone close to you gets cancer, do you say "he disagreed with me once and I didn't like what he did but I wish him well"? Or do you just ****ing wish them well?

All of you ****ing hate this guy and and failing in trying to act as if you don't hate him for your "karma."

He did nothing to deserve this. His health and deflate gate should not be discussed together.

Given I don't believe in karma and I believe in taking responsibility for your actions, your post, as per usual, leaves a lot to be desired.

Mort ****ed up and rather than acknowledging it, dug his heels in further. Does that mean I wish he had cancer? No, not really. Professionally, he's a useless piece of **** but that doesn't make anything you've written about people on this board true, not in the slightest. Disconnecting the profession and the person just doesn't apply. I'm quite comfortable wishing him a speedy recovery in his fight against cancer but professionally, I don't wish him well at all. That's a common theme and from my position, that seems reasonable.

As trolls go, you really are something @Interception.

Thoughts and prayers for the Mort. :(

This is the funniest post of the thread.

It is bad karma to ever wish ill on another person... didn't he notice anything before it got to stage 4 ??? Or did he ignore the signs????

Consider: (A) the depths of appalling you can get on many sports chat boards, (B) Mort himself acted appallingly by actively lying and smearing people (consider how bad this was for the blue collar Dorito Dinks) -- and the anger it justifiably caused on this chat board.

The guy never actively lied or smeared anybody. He reported what the NFL ... the people who actually measured the balls ... told him, and he had no reason not to believe the numbers. He didn't crusade against Brady, either. The guy freaking turtled, as both his employer and one of the most powerful entities in the country no doubt instructed him to.

I think that, outside of a sociopath or two on this thread, it boils down to one main thing. The further we are removed from Mort's report, the more we see exactly how far the NFL is willing to go to tear Brady down and cover up their own idiocy. Now I see two camps: one who has built Mort up to be the Bogeyman who somehow led the charge against Brady, and the other who realizes that Mort was ****ed over by the NFL. I just don't understand how being cowed (or a coward) makes throat cancer an equitable consequence in any reasonable person's mind.

Out of the 60+ posters in this thread, just 2 or 3.

And I pity them as much as I empathize for Chris Mortensen and his family.

There are many souls out there who are ill or hurting. My best thoughts go out to all of them. We're all in this soup together.

Based on what Deus posted earlier in the thread Mort has a 30-50% chance of beating it.
I know, so did my friend. Maybe he was just one of the 70% that don't beat it. And beating only consists of living 5 years after diagnosis. Stage 4 means it has gone elsewhere in the body besides the throat, that's the part that is bad. Bowie had lung cancer that moved to his liver (stage 4).

I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. Hope he recovers. That said, I expect a LOT of tasteless replies to this bad boy.

I think you have very low expectations concerning the character of the people here. Most of us have had to deal with that awful disease and understand the impact it has on a family.
