I have been doing a little island-hopping over the past week or so and one of my stops included Cuba, and on the way over, I stayed overnight in Mexico. Imagine my surprise when I turned on the TV in my hotel room to see this:

For those of you whose Spanish is rusty, the translation is literally "Seek their third straight Super Bowl."

Ironically, the Mexican FOX affiliate is perfectly named "Agenda."

BTW, while I was in Cuba, I saw exactly one NFL football jersey, and that was a Brady jersey. There were plenty of other pro sports, especially baseball, but as far as the NFL, only saw one Eagles shirt, and one Patriots jersey.

Obviously they meant seeking their 3rd straight Super Bowl appearance. Sports media people are among the dumbest people in media and that's saying something.

It would be their third straight Super Bowl. Usually it's phrased "third straight NFC championship" or "super bowl appearance"

Well when Mexican national team coach Miguel Herrera thought he made Brady's day with this photo a few years ago it pretty much explained how the NFL is viewed over there.

I don't see a problem here?

To be more specific, the conjugation of buscarán (buscar) is of a future tense, which means "they will look for/seek," so as far as I know (and I am no native Spanish speaker) it's suggesting a possession- and to win is to possess something, as opposed to "seeking to reach the superbowl." Probably splitting hairs here, but I just thought it was interesting how they chose to phrase it.

However as I hadn't realized the big game is tomorrow as I just got back, I'll just let this thread die a horrible death.

Replace over there with "pretty much everywhere else" then you are on to something.

OK, but you were in this hemisphere AND I hope, not "Locked up Abroad", right?

Well, this is appropriate given the opponent tomorrow, so, your punishment is, you are #65.

Hope the NFL is paying attention ... not sure Mexico will be worth it.

I sure did. Cuba was an experience unlike any other I've ever had and I travel quite a bit. It is an exotic ****tail of beauty and squalor, of maddening inefficiency and undying hospitality. It is the place 1959 came to stay and never really left, courtesy of the spectacular failure that is the communist experiment, crumbling to the ground along with the colonial buildings in Old Havana. Time stands still, caught between the police state constantly celebrating the revolution as if it happened yesterday, and the seething, soulful passion of a people longing to modernize. Romance lurks at every sultry corner under the hot tropical breeze, and flowers in spite of the watchful eyes of the police spies. The sunsets on the Malecon are like no other.

Don't think I've ever been cut off from the world like this before. I didn't even learn who our opponent was until I landed in Miami. Spotty internet access is sometimes available in Havana, but not in rural Cuba, and both the newspaper and TV are state-owned, so there's an endless stream of anti-imperalism that nobody pays attention to.

This is correct and the OP is correct to point it out. That is exactly what that line implies. I'm gonna chalk it up to bad grammar rather than pure stupidity though.

Amazing. Cuba has always intrigued me as they are so close our neighbor, yet we never hear a peep out of them.......... nor does anyone else. Spotty, sometimes internet in a capitol city is so...........North Korea!

The conspiracy gets far more insidious. This reporter, Ines Sainz for Azteca Deportes, stated in spanish that the Seattle Mariners are going for their fourth straight super bowl.

If I didn't know better, I'd guess that you were the reincarnation of William S. Burroughs, just from reading this post!
