OT Mort has stage 4 throat Cancer

Goodell and others spent $5M and a calendar year (and counting) to literally frame Brady, but Mort is the devil because he reported what the NFL leaked to him.

Again, in a thread about a guy's throat cancer, people are talking about his unforgivable sin of reporting.

Lastly, I'm laughing at the notion that, if he had only apologized (against his powerful employer's agenda, mind you), everyone would be just fine with Mort now.

Edit: Also, why would he "proclaim Tom's innocence?"
If I read correctly the post referencing the apology offered empathy unconditionally, but respect and sympathy (whatever that is), were contingent on the apology. It's OK to disagree with that notion, but miscategorizing and laughing at it might be taking it a little too far.

I lost my dad to cancer 13 years ago. He has a tough road ahead, as does his family. I wish him nothing but the best. Football is just a game. Cancer is ****ing hell. Courage, Mort.

Best wishes to him.

As for the snide stuff -- I wish him a long, happy and healthy RETIREMENT. Let's leave it at that.

And I wish him that in full knowledge that it will prevent him ever correcting his inexcusable choice to not issue a retraction when a retraction was due.

He did harm, quite possibly through what initially was innocent error. He knows he did harm. He could fix a part of it easily. He hasn't.

Yes, he's guilty of considerable wrong-doing.

However, it doesn't warrant the death penalty.

What's the "considerable wrongdoing?" Reporting what the NFL told him?

As for fixing it easily, we may have to agree to disagree on that one. Most people ... even the dumb ones ... know that the balls weren't 2 psi under. Yet, they're still yelling "cheaters."

Yes, Mort screwed up. Big time. But he was a halfway decent sports reporter back in the day and had a long career before the NFL used him like a tissue and tossed him out. It doesn't excuse his lack of ownership of the issue, and he still should've corrected it (and still can, though to lesser effect now), but that one big mistake doesn't wipe away his humanity. We as fellow sports enthusiasts and as fellow human beings should wish him a full recovery.

Think of the one kid in grade school you hated the most, the one who was a huge jerk and treated you like crap. If you learned they had a pretty bad case of cancer and was fighting to survive, would you wish death on them? I don't think you would.

The media, unfortunately, has a way of demonizing others to becoming less-than-human... Sometimes, they accidentally demonize themselves. Let's not forget that Mort is, indeed, still a person just like you and I.

Get well soon, Mort.

Some of you really need to change your god damn definition of a horrible human being. Stalin was a horrible human being. So is Castro. Hussein, Hitler, the list goes on and on. Those are truly horrible human beings that committed actual ATROCITIES. Reporting on deflated footballs, or should I say misreporting on them, does not make one worthy of stage four cancer. Some of you are in serious need of a life and if you take this sport that seriously, it may be time to step away for a little while.

You're right, and almost everyone here wishes him well in his fight (as do I) but I don't see the need to forgive him for something he never took ownership of because he's suffering ill health.
Who the hell is forgiving him in this thread? You're constructing a straw man.

I have nothing nice to say about this man who deliberately, with knowledge and malice aforethought, transmitted false information that ultimately impacted not only Tom Brady , the Patriots organization and the staff but also the MILLIONS of Patriot fans with familes and children who were wrongly stigmatized by this arrogant man's electronic transmissions.

I am a cancer survivor and as such I wish him nothing short of a complete recovery, as I would any human being faced with this demonic affliction.

I'm not sure to "agree" or "like". Continued good health to you!

Lost my brother in law, my former wife, and my daughter to cancer.
God help you Mort, I will be thinking of you. I hope you beat this.

I have nothing good to say about Mort "the reporter". I wish he and his family didn't need to go through difficult times because of his health.

I would bet TB12, if it's even on his radar, isn't so vitriolic as to not feel some compassion at least for this man's family.

He reported something that was both badly incorrect and very influential.

He should have been prompt, diligent and emphatic about correcting the error.

Terrible news for Mort and his family. Best wishes for a cure and a speedy recovery.

Mort sucks as a reporter, but that doesn't mean he sucks at a being a good person. I wish him the best in his battle ahead and hope for a full recovery. Thoughts go out to those close to him as well and anyone else who is dealing with cancer in any shape or form.

Good wishes Mort. Get well soon.

Man, that's brutal. Survival rate on stage IV of any kind of cancer is low, horrible luck getting that diagnosis. Hopefully he beats the odds and pulls through.

I opened this thread prepared to see some pretty ****ty posts, and was encouraged not to find any. Thanks for that everyone, good to have it reaffirmed that we're better than that.
