Belichick: Pats primed for "optimum performance" against the Chiefs

KC is as close as you'll get to the Pats coaching wise, and discipline wise. It's a bad match up for us because we always feast on these dumb teams, which is 90% of the NFL.

I still think we can overcome it, even with Gronk at 60-75%.

Brady needs to have a great game, not good, great.
The D needs to step up and if not win us a game, give us a game.
The O line needs to be OK, yes just OK at the very least.

If that's what happens, I don't care who is playing us. We should win.

They might be close coaching-wise in some areas, but Andy Reid is a proven below-average situational football manager, especially with respect to handling the clock. If for some reason we come out flat but keep it close, don't count out Reid doing something incredibly stupid that leaves the door open for a Pats W.

I was going to say the same thing. Almost never hear him say something like that. The MOST you might get out of him is 'we had a good week of practice'. I would almost think that quote was made up!

EXACTLY! I want to know if anyone actually heard Bill say that!o_O

This week has been downright weird.

Getting all kinds of strange vibes on this one....

Am I off base here when I say this comment by Bill, “Everything is pointing toward us being at our best and an optimum performance on Saturday afternoon." is something he would rarely say before a game?
Maybe he's just been spending a lot of time on PatsFans?

You're right, the first signs of dementia obviously. Should IYO, Patricia or Josh take over before the wheels fall off?

Aren't you supposed to use one of these ------------> for sarcasm?

One of the more weird playoff weeks in the patriots era i can remember.

Some people are afraid of going to Denver next week, but I will go on record as stating that I do not believe that game will be much of a challenge.

Should we put this next to your "on the record" comments about blowing Denver out 6 weeks ago, too?

Something about going to Mile High stadium that makes you very confident. I suppose that's an admirable trait, but Brady's 2-6 record tends to speak otherwise.

I think they'd win as well, but I can't say that it "won't be much of a challenge." I would expect a tough game on the road in a hostile environment.

The only thing I don't like about this year is I don't think the Pats have any ace up their sleeve like they did going into Baltimore last year.

What makes you feel as though they wouldn't have any other trick plays in the playbook?

Better yet, how often do we usually need them?

I don't read it that way.

I read "pointing" as a synonym for "directed", not as a prediction of success.

Nope haven't seen it. Different team, different rational behind his statements. More of a nice try guys but we haven't been listening to your BS. Much like the boxing gloves. I bet the team loves that.

I love that stuff he comes up with. Boxing gloves, Xeroxing game plans, "I've already covered that", "Are there any questions about the game?" classic salty Bill.

That was before we sustained all the injuries. The fact that we went there and took them to OT with a practice squad is what makes me confident we'll handle them easily. Their QB that game was better than the one we'd play next week.

@Fencer is right.
He's not saying they are going to play like that or predicting it. He said he's hoping for it. He said Kansas City won't make mistakes and they are preparing for an optimum performance. You have all taken "pointing to" as "going to have an optimum performance."

This is same old bill, just different words. It's very simple. I recognize some posts here who I wouldn't expect better from though...

We usually don't use them that often and might not need them to win the SB. However one thing that makes e think we don't have one is we used a pass to Brady against Philly so that is not something we can easily spring now.

I do believe we have trick plays in the play book but I am talking about effective trick plays which need the element of surprise. I don't think we have anything that is going to surprise anyone.

I'm definitely not as concerned about the possibility of going on the road as many are, but I can't say that I'd be quite as confident as you've been in regards to facing Denver.

Im just hoping that we have the opportunity to play beyond Saturday. If Sunday comes, I'll just sit back, relax, and let the chips fall where they may. In that regard, I love your attitude.

I don't know, but I'd imagine that they'd probably have a handful of plays available at any/all times throughout the season.

Before we get all half-****ed about this Denver defense, remember, this is a team that has faced opponents with a combined record of 78 - 100. Recall, too, that in the prior meeting won by Denver in OT, with Hightower in there Denver had 37 yards on 15 carries, and after he left they had 120 on 36 carries.

SO, yes, if the Pats are reasonably healthy, they'll probably win.

Then again, there are no guarantees that Denver beats Pitt this Sunday, unless Ben doesn't play a snap.

Just my 2 cents...
