Besides the number of passing yards that the Patriots lost to penalties, it is also interesting to note what team lost the fewest yards in that manner: the Jets.
The first twenty players on that list were full time or close to full time starters. From that point on only a few were week in, week out starters. Fitzpatrick ranked 26th with only 86 yards. How does a guy who played every game end up with numbers comparable to quarterbacks that only played a handful of games? Fitz is just ahead of Joe 'Jump Ball' Flacco, who had just 73 yards. How does a guy whose favorite play is to throw it up for grabs lose almost no yardage on penalties? Their ratios of passing yards to lost yardage is even more of an outlier than Brady's numbers.
