Not that it matters but Joey Porter should have got 15 yard flag

I think it says team attendants which is a vague term. Also, it says anyone can go on the field during that time with the permission of the refs. So who knows if before the game, they get permission from the refs for certain coaches to come on the field and help players off or whatever.

Again, I am not saying Boomer is right. I am just saying it is a plausible explanation. I don't know.

It's not a plausible explanation at all. It's illegal for coaches to be on the field. It says so in the rules and Blandino backed that up a few years ago. They swallow the whistle during exceptions like injuries but it's still not legal. That's why they should have flagged Porter as soon as he ran his mouth. Plus, he clearly wasn't out there to help the injured player.

Comments on the recent comments:

A penalty on Porter was not going to offset the Burfict personal foul. It would have offset the unsportsmanlike penalty call on Adam Jones that was made after the play. Even if the offsetting penalties happened, the Steelers were still get 15 yards closer and a first down on that play.

There wouldn't have been an unsportsmanlike penalty on Jones if Porter had already been flagged for taunting the way he should have been..

I am talking about the media that include former players who are 100% all over the place. Watch the football shows and listen to the radio and you hear everything from Porter had every right to be on the field to he should be ejected from the game. Plenty of legitimate people are saying there is a valid reason for him to be on the field, but it is near universal that what he did while on the field was not.

Rob, I have yet to hear on media or former football player state that Joey Porter was right to be on that field. But I was VERY generous in allowing that 10% might be completely off their rockers like Primetime was in defending Burfick.

Do we know whether he helped Brown off the field? I don't think they showed that on camera.

Geez, Rob everyone else here watched it live or saw the odd afterward.

You could not have taken 2 minutes to check before dragging this out?????

Delay of game. Happens all the time.
No it doesn't. Guys keep balls after turnovers and touchdowns all the time. Delay of game penalties don't get called for that. The guy ran into the tunnel instead of to the bench. What's the difference?

I have heard it on 98.5 (Easiason), ESPN radio (Mel Kiper and the guy he does it with on Saturday mornings), ESPN the network, and NFL Network.

But I am done with this conversation. I was just passing the information along.

Ok, I didn't see it.

But Porter could have originally gone out there for it. Either way, they were were letting coaches on the field all game. So they were letting that rule slide.

Either way, it would be offsetting penalties and still leave the Steelers in makable field goal range. And it doesn't excuse Pacman Jones' actions.

the field goes 'random' at this point.......the steelers got away with something but the bengals did not get screwed........when it comes to 2 teams dancing on the field, it's a huge windo of possibility when it comes to outcome

what I am interested to see is given the league provided a pretty stern warning, will they come down hard on both teams or will they simply ignore what they said themselves

both teams should be harshly fined for not controlling the situation from the management level....which is exactly their mantra of coming down on the pats so hard a year ago.....we'll see

I am not saying he is right, but if assistants are assigned to assist players off the field it would most likely be a 280lb former LB rather than a smaller coach.

For a DLman, OLman, LB and TE maybe, but for a WR barely 6' and barely 200#?

I just posted this in another thread:

FWIW Boomer Easiason said this morning that typically assistant coaches are used to assist injured players to the sidelines and Porter had a right to be on the field. So being a former player (big and strong), they might have decided to use Porter as a guy who would help assist Brown to the sidelines which would have made it legal for him to be on the field. But obviously, that doesn't neccessarily mean what he did while on the field as legal.

Also Boomer pointed out that the refs let coaches on both sides on the field a lot in that game without penalty. So they let both sides get away with more than they probably should and threw the flag when Pacman stepped way over the line.

This is the issue.

I don't care that he was out there to help Brown off the field. I care that he was 10 feet away from Brown, in the middle of a pack of Bengals, talking ****. Coaches are supposed to be held to a higher standard.

And the ref there knew it, which is the worst part.

Fined. He should be suspended for a year, just like Munchak should.

The Pittsburgh Steelers coaches have a history of this, and it's clear that this is systemic, if not something taught by the head coach.

tomlin's untouchable.

Yes, I agree with the OP that Porter should've been flagged, which would have offset the 2nd penalty (Jones).

I believe this even more now knowing that Porter was one of the main instigators in the previous meeting, so you'd think that the refs would've been on top of the situation.

Big difference between a 50 yd FG attempt, and a 35 yarder, and in this case I'd have called offsetting penalties or even nothing at all.

except porter didn't help brown
That's irrelevant to the question of why he was on the field. He was on the field to help with the injury. When a player is injured it's not possible to send the exact minimum number of people out there, since the extent of the injury or the degree of assistance needed is not known.

I have some beautiful oceanfront property in Iowa to sell you.

Are you another one like Rob, who is making judgements but never saw the videos?

If you watch, Porter is nowhere near Antonio Brown. He never helps him off the field (there were 3 people already doing that). But he sure was busy out there.

Look, I have no problem with people having different opinions, but people simply making crap up is going to be ridiculed for what it is.
