Harrison Talks Vikings Kicker, Talks About 'Helmet Catch'

Ian Logue

If you think Patriots fans are the only ones tormented by having to watch David Tyree make the improbable catch up against his helmet that helped spur the Giants' comeback and spoiled New England's perfect season, the player who gave up the play isn't a f

It's the anti-Butler is play. Worst play in the history of the Pats to go against them. I was dumbfounded by one of the most fined safeties ever, going for the ball instead of crushing the receiver. Hit the guy and no way he makes the catch.

Also, I was screaming, how the **** was that not holding by the offensive line ? Only reason Manning wasn't sacked was because both defensive linemen were having their arms being held. That play still makes me physically ill. Worse **** up in a Super Bowl ever by the refs.

Oh well, it was meant to be obviously, Pat's players had THREE chances to int Manning and dropped all three. Most painful 2 minutes in Pat's history.

It wasn't the anti-Butler play. Butler was well-prepared and executed a standard play perfectly. It was a perfect play; something that, just due to it's difficulty and the circumstances, would be hard to make a dozen more attempts. In fact, the entire defense read and reacted perfectly. Tyree, on the other hand, made a fluke reception. It wasn't by design or the result of great preparation or even execution (by anyone else on the Giants). It was just a fluke. The fact that he made it was one of the things I love about sports (the arbitrary nature of it makes it so dramatic), but Butler's play was very different: a perfectly executed football play at the perfect time. Nothing lucky about it, just rare.

What I meant by anti-Butler, was that as orgasmic and exhilarating the Butler INT was, that's how soul crushing the helmet catch was.

Yea you talk to Seahawks fans- who IMO are a decent bunch and the say "the play" completely ripped their hearts out.

Exactly the same feeling as the helmet catch. And for Viking's fans, it's gonna be a LONG offseason. Just a horrible feeling to lose a game like that. I think the stat was field goal kickers made 188 out of 190 field goals 27 yards or less. You just can't miss that. Viking's and Bengal's fans won't wanna think or talk about football until next September.

Helmet catch was painful. That whole drive was death by 1000 paper cuts, waterboarding and having a bad stomach virus all at the same time

This was a wild card game. Helmet catch was the Super Bowl for a 19-0 record. There is a BIG difference.

Vikings fan have the Bret faaaaaaavre Int also.;)

Also Gary Anderson missing his only FG for the entire year in the NFCCG resulting in the Vikings losing in OT to Atlanta.

With 6 minutes left in the 4th qtr to put them up by two scores.

I find it very odd that I don't remember watching the actual play at all, I honestly think I may have blocked it out.

Imagine what it must feel like to be a Buffalo Fan.. 4 times to the "big dance" and no post game quickie..

If they had Indy participation trophies in that day and age, the Ralphie stadium would be flapping in the wind..

They have a great documentary on that by ESPN, a 30 for 30 film. They had a chance against the Giants and were ahead 13-6 against the Cowboys, yet wound up getting blown out in 3 of the 4 straight losses. They were actually the brunt of jokes back then, despite winning 4 straight AFCCGs.

I always say, I rather lose the AFCCG than the SB. Winning the AFCCG and then losing the SB is very painful, especially the way the Pats lost their last 2 SB losses.

If he had any honor he would have committed Sepeku on the 50 yard line immediately after the game.

And if you had any honour, you would commit seppuku after that ridiculous post. But we both know you have no honour.

That game still hurts, but that wasn't all because of Rodney. That was a team loss. Rodney was part of it, yes, but nowhere near enough to justify the stupidity of your comment.

I'd go into it more but 1) this is ridiculous, and 2) it still hurts to think about. But if you put even one minute of actual thought into that game, you'd remember just how many plays we missed, mistakes we made, breaks we didn't get, assignments we missed, mixed with a bunch of curious coaching decisions. If you think Rodney is the reason we lost that game, I can tell you didn't tune in until the late 4th quarter.

Actually the one who should have committed seppuku after that play was Asante Samuel. He dropped the earlier INT and then gave up on that play allowing Tyree to get open in the first place.

Then there's that Saints game where NO was down by 7 with time for one play. They called and executed an amazing multi-lateral play for the TD.

And then the kicker missed the PAT.
