Listening to ESPN radio right now and Mel Kiper and others are bending over backwards to defend Lewis for not being responsible for the end of the game last night. They are arguing that Lewis doesn't condone or coach Burfict to play that way and didn't condone Pacman's actions either. The ESPN guys on TV did the same thing last night (why they are talking about it now on ESPN radio). And I say a big WTF?!?

The Bengals were undisciplined and out of control last night. The ending of the game was only the most costly example of how the Bengals players were acting all night. Lewis had no control of the team and they played like crap because of it.

You would never see a Belichick coached team act like this. The Patriots players can get chippy, but they don't lose control like the Bengals did. A guy like Burfict would probably be benched before that hit on Brown.

I am sorry, but Lewis deserves a lot of the responsibility for that loss. He lets his teams act like a bunch of out of control thugs. When they make stupid and costly mistakes because of that lack of discipline in the organization, you deserve to be fired.

In fairness, the NBC guys did give Lewis a lot of the blame after the game although they treaded the line on overtly calling him out.

You are correct about it being the responsibility of the coach.

On another matter, when I saw that fumble I immediately thought of Belachik with Ridley. The discipline that Bill imparts translates to having so few fumbles. Down there in that game situation the four rules for the ball carrier are (1) protect the ball, (2) protect the ball, (3) protect the ball and (4) if you can, get some yards if you can.

Oh, I am celebrating here. This is my 100th post.

Esiason ripped him pretty hard in the postgame. Pretty much called for him to be fired. Seeing as Esiason is a key guy in the history of the Bengals he probably has history with Lewis. I'm not sure what it is, but there's certainly bias there. I doubt he'd be asking if Lewis deserves to be on the sideline if they were buddies.

Certain dudes are just wired differently and the organizations that draft these "implosions waiting to happen" deserve far more blame than the coach. Dez Bryant, Johnny Manziel, Terrell Owens, Ndamukong Suh are just a few examples of ticking time bombs. Has any coach been able to remove the "ticking time bomb" gene from these Type A's. I would congratulate Belichick the GM more than Belichick the coach for assembling coachable/controllable players...on the field. The AHern time bomb exploded off the field

Not sure why Tomlin isn't getting the same scrutiny as Lewis. Steelers were almost as undisciplined as the Bengals. It does take two to tango.

Just because your team wins the game doesnt mean you should skate

The Steelers blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead to a team playing its backup QB and playing without their All Pro Safety and best CB and RB (both Nelson and Kirkpatrick were hurt and out of the game Bernard was out with a concussion after a non call for spearing). It is only because they were playing a Marvin Lewis coached team that they survived. That was an epic playoff collapse by the Steelers and would have cost most coaches their jobs, but I'm sure Tomlin will be safe.

Hopefully he will get to hear Zolack's play by play again in his headset in two weeks.

The Burfict thing never should have happened because Lewis never should have called a running play after the Burfict INT (or at least he should have made sure all players knew not to struggle for extra yards at the very least). 3 kneel downs and a 42yd FG puts Pitt down by 4 with no TO's and a QB who couldn't throw more than 15yds.

Lewis is lucky Burfict is such a hothead or this all would be focused on him as it should be. That game should have been over right then and there. Instead Lewis loses his head just like his players did.

And can you imagine BB's reaction should a player get a crucial end of game INT like Burfict did then run the wrong way the length of the field and into the tunnel in celebration? That dude would have been screwed to the bench instantly. Delay of game should have been called. And what if he weren't ruled down? Would have been an a safety!

We are so lucky to have Belichick and both game's worth of lousy coaching and football really showed it yesterday.

Please don't misuse the term "Type A". They are "Type D" for "Dirty" or "Type U" for unbalanced. There is nothing wrong with being a "Type A" if that is your makeup. It means "Driven" or "Success oriented" or "Determined". It does not mean "an explosion waiting to happen". If you are not a "Type A", you would never make it in the NFL. Brady is a fantastic example of a "Type A".

Proud to be a classic "Type A".

Oh, and yes, Belichek has been able to control the on-field behavior of those "ticking time bombs".

How many more one and dones does Marvin get before he gets canned?

And what if he weren't ruled down? Would have been an a safety!

Even though I was rooting for CIN to win I was praying the replay would show Burfict wasn't touched because CIN losing on that kind of a safety would have been one of the greatest things in the history of football.

Precisely my thinking

I'm not the one oblivious about the definition of Type A....

http://www.simplypsychology.org/personality-a.html

Type A individuals are easily ‘wound up’ and tend to overreact. They also tend to have high blood pressure (hypertension).

Type A individuals tend to be easily aroused to anger or hostility, which they may or may not express overtly. Such individuals tend to see the worse in others, displaying anger, envy and a lack of compassion.

When this behavior is expressed overtly (i.e. physical behavior) it generally involves aggression and possible bullying (Forshaw, 2012). Hostility appears to be the main factor linked to heart disease and is a better predictor than the TAPB as a whole.

What a very flattering way to describe the personality trait of yourself. It's better to be self aware than blissfully ignorant at the drawbacks of your personality. Some other traits that go along with being Type A: selfishness, lack of loyalty, abandonment.

The Bengals are a crap organization and it shows. Their owner Mike Brown is too cheap to spend the money it would cost to interview and hire a new head coach, and he's making money every year the Bengals reach the playoffs (which is how Brown measures success).

Lewis has always let the inmates run the asylum. They're undisciplined and they don't know how to win. When Burfict got the interception with under 2 minutes to go, he ran back to the locker room with the ball (Pacman Jones following him). Hey Burfict, game isn't over yet, ya dingus. Steelers still had 3 timeouts. We know what happened after that.

Lewis may be a nice and classy guy or whatever, but nice and classy guys still lose their jobs when they don't perform up to expectations. I get it, the Bengals had a 14-year stretch of consecutive losing record seasons, and Lewis got them out of that. But the Bengals have decided not to raise the bar any higher than "lose in the wildcard round".

The Bengals had an opportunity to get to the divisional round for the first time in 25 years...two opportunities, actually, and failed both times. Lewis at 0-7 is the worst coach in NFL playoff history. They will never get better as long as he's in charge. Any other organization would have fired their coach a long time ago and not let it get to 13 straight seasons without a playoff win. The team is a joke and I really feel for the Bengals fans for having an owner that is so apparently indifferent to the product on the field.

Lewis is partly to blame, but Mike Brown is the one who collects the gaggle of morons on the bengals roster.......lewis just plays the best guys

it's easy for us to say when the pats simply have one guy everyone has to answer to....so much easier......he can cast people aside simply for being late

Great point......and the Pete Carroll/ Bobby Grier era is a perfect example of players not all too concerned about the coach's absolute rule. A single Dictatorship has its advantages.

I agree that Tomlin has been exposed this year as a lightweight coach. He did a poor job managing this game.

One thing that didn't get any play at all is him going for two when the Steelers were up 15-0 almost 2/3 of the way through in the third. You kick the extra point and it is 16 nothing and you make the Bengals score two TDs and two two point conversions or score three times. At 15-0, it only requires them to go for a two point conversion once if they score two TDs. It isn't a huge odds change, but it isn't something you really need to risk to get a potential 17-0 lead which would make it a three score game.

Ultimately, it didn't matter, but that has been Tomlin this year. He gambles a lot in situations where it is either isn't warranted or stupid to do so.

But it is true that Tomlin lost as much of his control of his team as Lewis did last night. His team was just not as stupid as the Bengals are.

Speaking of the crap organization of the Bengals, let's include their fans. It was absolutely disgusting how they acted when Roethlisberger was being carted off. I personally am in the camp that he probably did commit rape so there is no love lost on my part for the guy, but fans shouldn't be cheering for an injury and throwing stuff at him as he is being carted off. Disgusting! The Bengals fans deserve this team.
