Can Steven Jackson be more than a Running back?

SJax brings that angle to the game that Blount never really did.

Did you see that 20 yd catch and run on the delayed screen last week? The secondary was petrified of him. Honestly, I like him doing THAT rather than running 2 yds with no blocking. Get the big guy out there in space and punish the opponent a bit.

They should do that 2-3 times per game to keep D's honest.

A guy who's played with mcDaniel and has that much experience?

Yea i mean maybe, that would be pretty amazing if they could get him up to speed that quickly and have him be effective.. Jackson had 1 year in McDaniel's system years ago, James White has had 2 full seasons in this current Patriots offense

We're going to need both White and Jackson to have a productive game to help us with this playoff run, ill be rooting them on regardless of who they put back there

Thats definitely one thing I love about his style.. the secondary wants nothing to do with him because he dishes out some serious punishment! You couldnt pay me any kind of money to make a head on tackle against Jackson lol

He's had a number of 40-50 catch seasons. I imagine he could chip someone, make a catch, then wreak havoc once he gets to the second level.

It's our offense that's uncertain because of injuries and any coach would explore using a star like Jackson in many ways, in case our O bogs down.

Thoughts?
Do you think he could play OG or OT?

The time for getting screen passes to Jackson "on tape" has passed. Since he has been used almost entirely as a pile-mover so far, chances are slim he will be used in dynamic ways in a playoff game with the season on the line.

He reminds me of Keith Byers. I wonder if he could play some FB/TE?

This thread delivers! I want both of them back in a pony formation... Imagine if they bring Jackson back next year, White keeps developing AND Lewis comes back strong? What a group of RBs.

I actually think Jackson, White and Edelman are the keys to the postseason for the Pats offensively. Besides the O-Line, of course...

I seriously think we'll be fine with 2 weeks, the major factor being vollmer's health. With injuries and the ****ty early bye week, we had a perfect storm. I like our talent on OLine, though they've been uncoordinated.

Season's on the line every play. Why wouldn't you use 2 weeks to get him some innovative plays?

Was the season on the line while Belichick took his headset off with 3 minutes to go in the Miami game?

Perhaps he can also become a stand up comedian lime Sammy morris

It'd be a nice little wrinkle for sure. I think I remember bjge and antowaon smith each having a 50ish yard reception at some pount. No reason to think sjax at his current level couldn't pull off the same in an opportune time.

I don't believe so. I thought we finished 12-4 and had a bye. are you talking about a different season?

I for one would like to see it. The team has become a bit predictable. If Jackson is in it's probably a run. If White is in it's definitely a pass. Even Blount had the ball thrown his way once in a while. Jackson can catch, and with some blocking could do some damage on the outside.

Of course my expectations are low but it would be nice to break it out here and there to keep defenses honest.

I'm sure the Pats are looking into that possibility. About 5 years ago I had Steven Jackson on my fantasy team and he used to have as many receiving yards as running ones, and he was a very good player. Did you see him catch that ball from Brady? LOL, I can't even remember which game it was, but he looked as smooth as butter doing it. Granted, 5 years is a long time in the NFL, but he definitely used to be a very good receiver.

But what if White isn't in the game and Jackson is? why should we limit ourselves to what the other team expects?

This. It's pretty simple. Jackson is a very good receiver and can still be a bit of a playmaker out of the backfield (a 20 yd reception against Miami last week). He's not the back you want to throw to regularly, but if he's in the game, the defense has to at least be a little worried they'll swing him out to catch the ball.

To me, they need to pull out any plays gronk, White and Jackson might fool the opposition with, because it's quite possible dola and Edelman won't be reall effective right away. and Martin.
