BB responding to Lafell comments after 10 weeks?

Lafell as he was coming back from PUP (October 2015):
"It will take a little while to get used to, but I ain't mad I ain't have no camp, man," LaFell said. "I hate football camp. I hate training camp. I'm glad I didn't have to go through that. But going out there, getting into football shape, getting pressed off the line every snap, getting banged up, getting off the ground, blocking, that's going to take a little while to get used to. I've played this game going on six years so I don't think it's going to take that long."

BB today (1/6/2016):
"Mentally and schematically there, I think that's all caught up. Physically, it's improving. It's certainly good enough to be competitive. Is it as good as it would be with all the other training and prior training in place? No, I don't think so. Look, if that was the case, I mean, why do we go to training camp? Why do we have an offseason program? So that's the benefit of all those guys being able to do that."

Some HOF greats have also talked about their disdain for camp...and not only for football. To each his own.

Nobody likes camp. Except gymrats like Brady.

I think BB was speaking to LaFell having shoulder surgery and not doing any offseason work and then once he was here during OTAs breaking his foot (or whatever he did) and just his body and timing in the offense not at 100%.

I accuse LaFell of having occasional concentration issues and being over-matched by better defensive players and frustrated.

I was unaware that LaFell was building a HOF career... I thought he was a 3-4 WR with a history of drops... the kind of player who might benefit from doing anything and everything he can to make and stay on a roster... which includes, when appropriate, silence.

WTF do you want for 3M per?

amendola's cap hit is double

We just want him to catch the ball and be a little ambitious when it comes to him. No training camp, foot surgery but while you are waitung to get back spend a few minutes each day on the catching machine. He could do it in a wheelchair as long as he will catch the ball better. Some of these guys that get hurt seem to have no ambition to improve other parts of their game. Dobson had foot surgery too and while he was waiting he could have aced the playbook and gradually walked then jogged every route then come back as a better player.

I hope BB makes Martin the WR3. He excelled in that role when the offense was dominating.
Martin showed potential receiving the ball but he has a long way to go as a blocker, a skill at which LaFell excels. If the OL can get a RB to the second level, I'd much rather have LaFell in there than Martin.

I still hope Lafell plays at or better than last year's playoffs level because he brings a lot more to the running game, more toughness and better at back shoulder passing game than any one else on the team.

If Amendola and Edelman are healthy, LaFell will be fine. He was pretty good down the stretch last year.

It's just that Lafell doesn't perform at a HOF level, he doesn't even perform at a good level.

He is not a deep threat...never was. He is however a very good receiver 5-15 yards.

Nobody should be throwing bombs to Chandler and LaFell.

I never said he was a deep threat, and he's been sucking at all yardages this season.

LaFell is a decent, complimentary piece who can play split end. He was never intended to be a game breaker nor is that a reasonable ask. He is a decent complimentary player who can win off the line which is a requirement for being able to play his position. Place him in an offense with a good flanker, a good slot, and the all world tight end and he will be able to contribute to the team as coverage dictates. Asking more from him is unreasonable.

Oh, and Martin won't take LaFell's snaps when Jules comes back. Martin and LaFell play different positions. Martin is the guy taking Jules' snaps right now at flanker. It's akin to saying a 6' inside linebacker will replace a 6'5 outside guy because they're both linebackers.
