OT: Bills owner to Wrecks: Make playoffs next season or adios

At his latest press conference, Wrecks had this to say about the ultimatum:

"Pegula is a real heel, ya know? I spend all season getting the guys
to toe the line, making small gains inch by inch and foot by foot,
and now he says I could get the boot. It's a real kick in the teeth.
But it's okay, this foot soldier thinks we're a shoe-in to make the
playoffs, as long as we don't suffer 2 defeets to the Patriots.

Wrecks is lucky to have a job. If they lost the Jets game, he would be on the market for college coaching positions.

If he can't rein in adults, what chance does he have with young adults?

You have to assume Wrecks was on Cloud 9 having just swept the Jets when this wet towel was dropped on him.

"But ... But I accomplished what I came here to do -- show the Jets they made a big mistake firing me!"
Jets fire Rex get better.
Bills hire Rex get worse.

Not sure what your point is.

It will be a tough feat for Rex to get into playoffs next year :D

ba da bump.....

Since I live in Buffalo, here are some of the optics:

1. Doug Whaley may be getting a contract extension, it is rumored. He is horrible. Look at his drafts.
2. The Bills are still reeling from the sale of the team because management took a very short-sighted approach before then.
3. Mario Williams is gone which may be a good thing.
4. After Fred Jackson left, there was no locker room leadership.
5. Fans are sour on Rex, they don't like him.
6. Pegula is a good owner. He is patient and methodical. He is not like Woody and Ross, which is why Buffalo is going to be Kraft's chief competition in the future. Right now, he simply doesn't have the people in place to run the franchise. If it were me and I had lots of $$, I'd fire all the coaches and all the administrators now, but unless you're San Fran, it's a bad look to fire people their first year into the contract.
7. Pegula spent big bucks to get the best management team and coaches for the Sabres.
8. Rex Ryan is a self-saboteur. High-profile businesses use psychoanalysts for consulting, but my amateur pop-psych analysis yields this about Rex: he is a good defensive coach, who has psychic fallout from his tough abusive daddy, and given his preferences in his personal life, I can only assume that he gets thrills when he there is a tendency toward debasement. That's how he was brought up. In other words, he likes pain and suffering. And he will always self-sabotage in order to create more forms of pain and suffering. He may also be bipolar.

Thank you all for giving me this podium!

This ultimatum is the opposite of patient and methodical.

I disagree. He knows the writing is on the wall. He is not looking for a turnaround from this coach and management team. I've seen this guy operate. He sat through dead duck periods with the Sabres in order to get the right people in place. He is not at all an immediate results type of person. He is building the Sabres in the right way. The Ryan ultimatum is all about the analysis that has already occurred. You can't give Rex just one year.

He's not even all that good of a defensive coach, he reputation is fraudulent. He tells people how good he is, plays a very risky style, and many fans think aggressive = good, but in the end, other than meaningless stats, he defenses are not that effective. He allows a lot of points, doesn't take the ball away, and stops the run at the expense of those things.

Not sure what your point is.
That Rex has made a lot of money as a Ravens DC, Jets HC and Bills HC, and is 1 year into a 4 year contact so he's set for life and if this ultimatum actually was made it'll most likely have no impact on what he does.
In other words, he likes pain and suffering. And he will always self-sabotage in order to create more forms of pain and suffering. He may also be bipolar.
I think the clearest evidence of this is how many stupid off-the-play personal foul penalties his teams take, yet he never does anything about it.

I recall press conferences when he was asked about it and he said "That's got to stop" instead of "I'll put a stop to that". He seemed to act as if it really wasn't his problem to solve, yet when you're the HC, everything bad that happens on the field is your problem to solve.

I don't know, but to me that was so obvious I was amazed that he got another HC job.

Personally I think the new Bills owner was in a rush just wanted to make a splash and didn't do a proper vetting of Rexy. That's about the only way I can explain it.
This ultimatum is the opposite of patient and methodical.
Yes, so it's out of character.

On a somewhat related topic, if you haven't done this already, you owe it to yourself to check out Deadspin's continuing coverage of the abhorrent behavior of Bills fans throughout the 2015 season. It is easily one of the most sordid things on the internet and raises serious concerns about the future of the human race on the part of anyone with a modicum of intelligence and human decency.

Zeus, I'm having a hard time determining if you really have my best interests at heart, or not.

I hope Rex gets two more years with Buffalo. I figure whoever is Miami's new coach will be canned in two years too. Then with a little good fortune Miami will hire Rex.

That would mean Rex will have ultimately failed with every team in the AFCE to dethrone the Patriots complete and utter divisional dominance. IMHO that in itself would be worthy of Rex being the first non Patriot to be in the Patriot HOF for the sheer Patriot-centric novelty of his failure.

Pretty hardcore stuff up there in Beefalo ...

Report: Bills owner gives ultimatum to Ryan, Whaley - NFL.com

>> Rex Ryan couldn't get the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs in his first year. His job could be in jeopardy if he fails for a second time.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reported Tuesday
, citing a team source, that during Terry Pegula's 2015 post-mortem meeting with Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley, the owner gave the duo an ultimatum: "Make the necessary fixes to get the team into the playoffs in the 2016 season or be fired."

Ryan has four years remaining on his contract. Whaley has one left.

The Bills have not made the playoffs in 16 seasons, the longest drought in American professional sports. <<

Imagine the pressure Wrecks is feeling.

Usually I think owners are dolts for expecting a winning program to be built in two years. If you hire the right guy then you gotta give him at least 3 years to entrench a winning program. New coaches who are too under the gun too immediately are likely to make impulsive moves that probably makes the establishment of a winning program even more distant. Yet in Rex's case he took over a team that had just come off a winning record that had improved by a solid 3 wins. Plus, in a surprise to no one, he shot his mountainous pie hole off very loudly that he was bringing home a winner right now.

So for the Bills to go from 6-10, then to 9-7, then under Rex go back to 8-8, then next year to the same or less wins(I assume 9 wins gives them a shot at POs)? In that instance it really isn't unreasonable for this owner to conclude Rex did not get the job done. IMHO it is a FAR more reasonable conclusion than that dummy in Philly saying he needs a coach who is a swell guy that is in touch with his emotions.
