Maybe it will work out for Cleveland.

Oh wait, it's Cleveland. Never mind. What a franchise.

According to Sports Center and Chris Mortenson...

From Money Manziel to Moneyball.

They should hire Peter Chiarelli as gm they would still be evaluating in 2020 and maybe trade us Haden,Thomas, and all future #1 draft picks for a bag of deflated footballs.

Edit:Nothing like hiring a guy for analytics who probably has no idea what a football is.

Jonah Hill must have been on a movie shoot and was unavailable.

They should have hired someone to surf ProFootballFocus all day.

He did play football in HS and worked at the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL.

DePodesta is a smart cookie and a true out of the box thinker but not sure its a great fit.

I saw that above, LOL. Here's a strategy for ya, Cleveland - draft some decent players, including a QB who's not a drunk or an old man, hire an experienced coach (maybe Tom Coughlin would come on over and try to straighten you out) and give him a few years to put together a decent roster.

You should have hired me for the job - I would have come at a fraction of the price.

Why can't we get franchises this dysfunctional in our division? Opppppssssss, never mind.

Maybe they're using George Costanza's Opposite Theory.

George: "It all became very clear to me sitting out there today, that every decision I've ever made in my entire life has been wrong. My life is the complete opposite of everything I want it to be. Every instinct I have in every aspect of life, be it something to wear, something to eat... It's often wrong."

Jerry: "If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right."

I guess the homeless guy who told them to draft Manziel wasn't available,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I loved the Moneyball revolution in baseball. I am skeptical that football can be analyzed in a similar way, since skills, tasks, and end results are so much more complex. There a very few "schemes" in baseball. There's a batter and a pitcher, and these one-on-one confrontations can be broken down, analyzed, and graded. Even on defense, it's very much an individual game where one player is tasked with making a play on the ball. Some guys like Morley from the Rockets have done a pretty good job in bringing analytics to basketball as well, but we are still talking about a largely one-on-one game with 10 players on the court, a relatively simple strategy, and not 22 players on a much bigger field with much more complicated strategies, players with much bigger variations in their athleticism.

Even though I think this is going to fail in a epic way, as a fan, I'm somewhat excited to see it in action, and I'd love to see someone chronicle the advanced methods and techniques that get employed.

On second thought, maybe this story is bogus. Chris Mortensen is reporting it.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that 11 out of 12 analysts are also interested in working for the Browns.

The strangest part of all of this is the organizational structure that Haslam is putting in place.

First, Sashi Brown is the new EVP of football ops and will report directly to Haslam. Brown is 39, has no football personnel experience but has been responsible for contract negotiations and various administrative functions.

The GM, who will be responsible for personnel will report to Brown! Good luck recruiting one of the real up and comers to this position.

Here's the part where we really try to break into jail. (Um, sorry Mr. Haslam. I forgot that you keep at least as much as $92 million on hand in petty cash to buy your way out of various and sundry legal entanglements, so no jail for you). Both the head coach and Podesta (the new chief strategy officer) will report directly to "Jimmy and Dee Haslam."

Ay Caramba. Let's summarize for those of you are confused by this level of dysfunction. The head coach and new quantitative analysis guy report directly to the owner (and Mrs. Owner) while the GM/personnel guy reports to a career administrator.

What could possibly go wrong here?

Maybe the NFL can find a way to televise this madness because it will be funny as hell to watch the integrity-compromised know-nothing owner drive this over a cliff. If you think its been tough to be a Browns fans (since 1964), look out below because you ain't seen nothing yet.

Yes, but 11 out of 12 Mort scoops are significantly undersourced, with some of the sources using 2 lbs of hot air.

Tomorrow's headline: BROWNS SIGN DIKEMBE
