Patriots Awards: Brady is Team MVP, LaFell is Biggest Disappointment

Derek Havens

The 2015 NFL regular season has come to a close. Before the playoffs get underway, let's take a look back and hand out some awards for the New England Patriots.

While it's true that he certainly came into the year as the 3rd/4th option, he did have the opportunity to be far more impactful considering the number of injuries. You would expect Brady to go his way more often but Brady has lost some faith in him (I would suspect, anyway). He really could have been an impact player, and yet he has remained in the shadows and was outperformed by the likes of Keyshawn Martin.

I like LaFell, but he has dropped balls and has not provided the much needed outside threat this year. For such a tall, physical receiver he has been non existent in the red zone (ZERO TDs).

To say he hasn't been a dissapointment's a joke. He was on the field with gronk and a couple of other players. I got a feeling he will goner after the season

He only caught 50% of his targets, often didn't fight for balls, and didn't score a single touchdown this year, after tallying 9 last season. He was a disappointment, even for a 3rd/4th option.

He's a big dude but shows less fight and will to win than Brandon Lloyd. He's too soft.

I definitely think that he has been dissapointing this year. He simply doesn't look as the same guy as last year. But I think that he can come back to his old form next year. It's hard missing the hole off-season and start of the regular season with an injury. It takes away a huge amount of practise time.

LaFell started the season on the PUP list as he recovered from surgery on his foot in June. He may still be recovering. We don't know how severe it was and LaFell and the Patriots won't tell us. :) You have to give the guy a bit of a break for this.

Amendola came alive in the Playoffs last year...can the same be expected of LaFell and Scott Chandler this year?? After what we have seen I'm having a hard time imagining.

Did he break his hands too?

Look, I love LaFell for what he did last year. Caught a HUGE touchdown against Baltimore in the divisional round (a very tough one-handed catch with a guy draped all over him) and also got the 1st TD of the Super Bowl. He had a solid season. He has ability. But there's no denying that this year he's been hurt and he's been bad. Plain old bad.

I'd put Dion Lewis as the most surprising. He was just a name on a list of nobodies until the first game and then he was the best RB the Pats have had in a decade.

Talk about Big and Soft......the very definition of Scott Chandler.

I was very happy when they signed him and now I wish we could get our money back.

He played in 15 games and caught 25 passes for 259. The last 10 games he caught 13 passes for 137 yards. The last 4 games.....not a single pass catch.

We save a little over $2M in cap costs next year if we cut him (not including replacement cost).

Is there any reason to keep him and spend that much of our precious cap space in 2016?
