If Christian McCaffrey isn't a future Patriot...

Watching CNN Live (now) and their segment is titled "Christian McCaffrey steals the show in the Rose Bowl".

not that many coaches pick according to headlines, but more press usually draws more attention and it seems unlikely, he'll be around for our first pick (and BB feels RBs are highly interchangeable and lower round picks).

Problem with Collins are his fumbles. I believe it's sixteen over his career, including five this year.

That's ok, we cheat.

(Hopefully it wouldn't disqualify him. I don't know that the Patriots need a RB per se, but if they're going to draft one, I think this is the kid.)

You should watch Jonathan Williams. He's bigger, faster and stronger than Collins. More of a number one back.

1st round
2001 - Seymour - Super Bowl
2003 - warren - Super Bowl
2004 - wilfork - super bowl
2014 - Easley- super bowl
2015 - Brown - hmmmm

Wow. Freaky

You never know. Belichick may identify the team most likely to tank in 2016 and find a way to finagle their 2017 first rounder....

I feel like the rest of the league has caught onto that trick. I am still in shock the Saints gave us their #1 next year and #2 current year for our late first to draft Ingram.

So if I were to imagine a list of teams that might be desperate enough to do it, it might start with the Saints. They have a history of trading up, they have made some bold moves to try to maximize Brees's window, Payton and Loomis haven't made the playoffs in two straight seasons now, and they are probably not one player away.

The Colts are always an option because their owner is a scumbag drug addict and their GM is a total ****ing idiot, but I don't consider them likely, mostly because I don't know if they know how to use a phone.

Maybe the Jags, who made some strides this year and believe they're on the upswing. Their owner seems meddling enough to try and make a big move. I could see a healthy Luck and a full QB season for Houston pushing them down the draft board though. Maybe the Bucs, for no reason other than they've done us a ton of favours over the years.

But despite all of the above, I really can't imagine the odds of it happening being too high. I would love to be wrong though!

We could draft his older brother this year.

That sucks, Goodell took away are chance at a SB in 2016...

I thought of the Saints for a different reason. They were, are and for the foreseeable future will be in cap hell with about $14 in dead money for 2016. Trading away a first rounder isn't on of the greatest long term strategies but we've seen NFL teams (and executives who need to keep their jobs) make bad long term decisions for short term gains, in this case potentially gaining some cap flexibility. With the new CBA, it is not as big a savings as before but who knows, maybe they will bite....
Remember this si the league where an executive gave up a first rounder for Trent Richardson AFTER they saw what he could do in this league.

We best not be waiting until 2017 to be addressing the RB position.

I don't think belichick will ever draft a RB in the first again. Too many painful memories...

Need to draft a DT if wanna win super bowl.

We have a streak going there but really we need an OT or DE to start developing for the future. You never know how a draft is going to play out though.

I dunno about this guy. Will need to wait and see some of his play when he isn't running behind a offensive line that is creating enormous holes on every play. You can watch hundreds of his highlight reel clips and none of his highlights are him getting tough yards, they are just of him running through a 10' hole untouched... That wont happen in the pro's.

Only real positive thing I see is that he is very decisive on choosing and hitting his lane full speed but again, that's not very difficult when you are running through holes big enough to drive a school bus through.

Squeaky clean white dude at a skill position, of course people love him.

I don't think a missed draft pick will make him hesitate if that's the best value.

We spent a 1st on T Adrian Klemm, who played 25 games over 5 seasons for us, but that didn't prevent us from taking Solder.

I mean, we spent a 1st on TE Daniel Graham. Then we spent another 1st on Ben Watson. Then a 3rd on Dave Thomas. We also traded picks for Alex Smith, spent $5.3M for 2 years of Kyle Brady in 2007. But we finally finally FINALLY got it right with Gronk, and we sure did in a major way.

The value of a RB has dropped significantly in the league, not just with BB, but with all teams. There are fewer 1st round picks spent on RBs now than 10 to 20 years ago. But that doesn't mean it has anything to do with a few mediocre seasons from Maroney. And if Gurley had been there at 32, I think BB would have really taken a hard look at that.

It's a combination of big time misses and RBs being one of the least valuable positions on the roster.

Aside from K and P, I think RB is at the very bottom of the list of position to draft high.

QB
OT
DE
CB
DT
LB
S
TE
WR
OC
OG
RB

Sure, there's always a chance a guy with a high rating falls to you, but given other similarly rated players at different positions, i'd say RB almost always gets sent to the bottom of the list.

The Pac12 isn't exactly known for the smothering defenses. If he were in the SEC would he have anything close to those numbers?
