Colts Cut Griff Whalen

I imagine it'd be pretty easy to root for anyone with the name Griff!!

He has more career fumbles than TDs. Most fumbles are from Special teams so fits right into our special teams modus operandi.

In a worst case scenario, he can battle it out with Nate Ebner as to who can try and steal kick reps away from Gostkowski. :D

I don't mind signing him. Just make sure he's not the backup long snapper.

I thought they already signed him oct 18th and released him after the game?

Wouldn't it be funny if we signed griff and ran the same play against the colts except we line up correctly and it's legal. Lol.

Wonder why they cut him. Need to make room for next year's first round WR?

Teams have no choice. If a player placed on IR can get cleared to play, he becomes a free agent unless the team placed him on IR with a designation to return.

Didn't know he was on IR at the time, thread title simply said they cut him

This isn't true. A player can choose to stay on IR and is guaranteed his full salary (with some minor exceptions) and his contract remains in place. Alternatively, if he feels that he is healthy and playing would be to his benefit, he can approach the team with an offer to buy out his contract. If they agree, he's released.

Obviously it's extremely unlikely that a team would choose to buy out an important player on a long term contract. The Patriots won't be reaching an injury settlement with Dion Lewis, for instance, even if his doctor suddenly gave him a clean bill of health. Most of the players who get injury settlements are guys like Griff Whalen, Leonard Hankerson, or Leonard Johnson. In other words, marginal players who teams don't see any advantage in paying their full salary to retain, who have to play for a new contract or see their careers end.

A team can re-sign a player they reached an injury settlement with after a waiting period of a few weeks. The Patriots did this with Larry Centers in 2003.

A WR from Stanford?

I'll wait for the 2017 draft, when the Patriots with their #1 pick select Christian McCaffrey, WR from Stanford.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic, since Mccaffrey is a RB.
