So, I'm getting Patriots loss to Phins, Broncos win, Bengals win, and Patriots still get the #1 seed.

But only if the Packers beat the Vikings? Heh. And Lions beat the Bears. Also Jets-Bills impacts it, and Eagles-Giants.

In other words, I'm very confused about this.

By the way, Bengals have to win so Patriots aren't head-to-head with Broncos.

Exactly why I don't fully trust these playoff simulators. Much like you, I'm very apprehensive as to how we could possibly win the #1 seed w/ a loss + a DEN win. Both teams would be 12-4 and DEN has the head to head tiebreaker.

Anything involving other teams is completely irrelevant for our chance at a #1 seed (aside from DEN losing), which has been reported by many outlets over the past couple of weeks and reiterated tonight during the game.

Because it wouldn't be just NE and DEN at 12-4. Cincy makes it a 3 way tie and takes away the H2H tiebreaker.

It's wrong because if Pats lose and Broncos win and Bengals win. Three way tie at 12-4 means Broncos get #1 seed based on beating both Pats and Bengals.

Don't you think this would've been figured out by now, though? I mean...we've continued to read and hear about our prospects for the #1 seed for weeks now.

Edit: also how would that change anything, seeing as how DEN beat both NE and CIN?

Exactly what I'm saying, too.

Denver beat both teams so a three way tie at 12-4 gives Denver #1 seed.

It is simple

Pats win or tie get #1 seed

Pats lose they need a Denver Loss or tie.

Cincy can't get #1 seed.

Pats will win to get HFA, followed by 3 more wins to repeat.

This is the explanation it gives. But I don't think it's correct because it still has Bengals at #2. Right now Bengals are #3 and Broncos are #2.

AFC Tiebreakers
  • 1st Seed - New England
    AFC East Champ
Wins tie break over Cincinnati based on strength of victory. Wins tie break over Denver based on best win percentage in conference games.
It's ESPN, it's broke and wrong just like everything else they do.

It's wrong on a three way tie at 12-4 First tiebreaker is if a Team beats other tied teams they get the higher seed. Denver beat both so they get #1 seed.

Now for #2 seed Pats and Cincy didn't play h2h so that eliminates #1 tiebreaker.

Both would be 9-3 in AFC so moves to #3 common games.

Pats 4-1(wins over Bills x2, Texans,Steelers)(loss vs Broncos$

Bengals 2-3(wins over Steelers, Bills)(losses Texans,Steelers,Broncos)

So if all end up 12-4 Denver is #1
If Pats/Cincy 12-4 Pats #1(common game tiebreaker)
Pats/Denver 12-4 Denver #1(Den h2h)

Oh, I agree. Just posting what the Machine shows as of right now.

The Playoff Machine currently shows the Bengals as the #2 seed after tonights loss. The Broncos are the #2 seed. The machine is freaking broke!

I'm getting some weird results too. It looks like the order you pick week 17 games affects the results. I got one where the Broncos win, Pats lose, but Pats still have #1 seed. EDIT for clarity: but then if you switch Broncos win to a loss, but switch it back to a win, then Broncos have #1 seed.

It's pretty pathetic, this is not a hard programming problem and hundreds of thousands of people use that site.

I don't give a 5hit. Just make smoked salmon out of the phins so we don't have to argue about this nonesense.

Gotta beat the Dolphins, not just for the seeding but because of the momentum factor. Can't go into the Divisional Round with 2 straight losses and a week off.

Because it wouldn't be just NE and DEN at 12-4. Cincy makes it a 3 way tie and takes away the H2H tiebreaker.

This is untrue. The first tie breaker on a 3 way tie is conference record.

Actually it's not the first tiebreaker. First tiebreaker(after division winners determined)is if someone swept the other tied teams(reason Denver will win 3 way tiebreaker) they win the tiebreaker. Or if someone loses to both they ar eliminated from the spot and then moves to 2 team tiebreaker.
