I kind of love watching the Pats play the scrappy, overmatched underdog for a while trying to pull together an offense out of spare parts. Hopefully guys get back in for the playoffs in good shape and we don't need to rely on trickery as much, but for now its fun to see the all the stops pulled out.

Pass back to Brady
Wildcat!
Flea Flicker
Reverses and Jet sweeps
The weird drop kick kickoff probably falls under this category, but that might be more "playing around with obscure rules" than a desperate attempt to generate offense given the game situation at the time.

Not all of these work, of course, but it shows they're digging deep and leaving no stone unturned to get through this shorthanded phase.

I kind of expected a fake punt at 4th and 1 in the first quarter.

What other gadget plays were there recently? What else is still there to try? We've already seen more trickery this year than we'd expect to see in two full seasons.

No. I think they are just practicing them for the playoffs.

There are many other types of plays the Pats have rarely run.

Missed the wildcat play, did it work?

They still haven't run a play with Garoppolo lined up at RB. :)

Wildcat got a few yards, didn't it? But not much.

Just putting stuff on tape with the playoffs in mind. Giving opposing DCs something else they have to be prepared for.

I think Brady should call his own plays. McDaniels is garbage and always has been. We've seen his offenses without Brady and they sucked. Same could be said about O'Brien down there in Texas. Brady makes them look good for a couple of years, then they go somewhere else and get exposed for being no more than assistants to Brady's greatness.

Can't stand McDaniels and his predictable play calling at this point.

Honestly, I think every team's fanbase hates its offensive coordinator.

In any case, the problem is, as @VrabelJr said, it's a lack of players right now, not plays.

n/m trick plays, how about stop throwing away offensive series...

This just shows how valuable JE & DA really is to this offense

I think it shows how valuable it is to have a quicks oriented SlotWR who's on the same page with Brady, but not specifically the value of JE/DA.

You must be my friend NEM's protoge`... Every OC can do no right!

No need to use gadget plays when you've already locked up a bye and still control your destiny for the #1 seed even if you lose.

I'm sure the Pats have a few tricks up their sleeves, and if we get into a desperation situation in the playoffs we're likely to see them.

Need gadget plays when trying to create offense.. something has to generate points.

Saving the "fumblerooski" for the playoffs..
