Steven Jackson!

They ran him hard in week 13 against Miami (27 carries), and he really did nothing. He was dinged up during the season, but my recollection with him was his motivation was often subject to question.

Didn't fumble much and wasn't a home run hitter. He did tend to have his best games in the playoff, which is a big plus. But as an in-season guy, okay but not awe inspiring (certainly no Marion Butts either - in recent memory, the low water mark of the power running game for the Pats with a back dedicated to that cause (last year was a true committee)).
Yea that was the 12-0 Bruschi slide game. MIA had a great run D that year. I don't blame Smith too much on that one. Plus it snowed like hell up to the game. I had the plow the driveway before heading to the game.

Funny- the article was from Lisa Olsen...LOL.

Not sure I like the sound of this (from Mike Reiss):

Reiss said:
Jackson’s meeting with reporters was cut short after about 90 seconds by a team official, with Jackson sharing that he had been working out three days a week, which included jogging, in hopes of keeping his hopes of playing for a contender alive. “Thankfully, I did that,” he said as he prepared for his first faster-paced practice in New England after going through Tuesday's walkthrough.

"Jogging"? That doesn't sound like someone that's close to football shape. I don't see Jackson being ready to do much until the playoffs. That's right on schedule, and he'll be rested, but I wonder if this is all a bit too much hype at this point. Sounds like the kind of conditioning program that leads to a "QUESTIONABLE: Hamstring" report on a January Friday.

I wouldn't read too much into it. While certainly there is "in shape" and then there is "football shape" Jackson is in supreme physical condition and has been doing this long enough to know what he needs to do to get game ready. Depending on where he is at, he may/may not be active for Sunday but I expect him to get 10+ carries vs MIA and treated as the last preseason game.

Football shape is the bigger question.

Most players don't give a full rundown on diet and exercise, so these cryptic statements are fairly useless. If Jackson was doing a Herschel Walker 'workout' three times a week he would be in great shape. For some, pushups and bodyweight exercises are routines rather than workouts. If his workout was walking to the street to jog two miles, then he has some catching up to do. If the twitter pic is recent, he isn't a porker.

We'll see what he can do on the field. If he is at 80% of his best, then he would be a great addition. Otherwise, he may be proof positive why Madden NFL is not real football in that you cannot simply add legends to your team without regard to current age and expect great results.

Hoping for the best. Like him just running wild as in "what a pickup."

We'll see, my expectations are kind of tempered though.

He'll get you 3.5-4 YPC, which is what Blount was giving us anyway.

Agreed. In addition to the yards its really how the years are gained. A power running back has the ability to wear down a defense (LB's mostly) and eventually soften it. This is magnified in the cold weather and plays a big factor in playoff games (Antoinne Smith, Corey Dillon, Blunt).

With Bolden, I like his attitude, his spot play at power RB and his play on special teams BUT he's simply not as big as the 3 above. Stephen Jackson is....he can get the 3-4-5 and also wear down the opposing D. Could be a win - win

A play from 3 years ago with the Rams.

I just hope he doesn't become another Fragile Freddy Taylor.

I just hope he doesn't become another Fragile Freddy Taylor.

Fred had two full offseasons and played 14 of 34 possible games for the Pats. Worst case, Jackson misses 5 games and heads off into the sunset a few weeks later.

On a distinctively positive note, if Jackson has 2 Jonas Gray-type games against the Jets and Miami he matches Fred's production over those 14 games. Maybe he has a little Waterboy in him after 11 non-winning seasons.:)

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but ever since Nate went on IR, we've played 9 straight games without a first round pick on offense. That's a very odd statistic; I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing or even if it's worth mentioning. But whatever it is it will come to an end if SJ takes a snap.

I'm sorry, I thought your uninformed opinion was from Reiss. He said he was working out three days a week, which included jogging.

Did you expect him to gather two teams and run scrimmages in his living room?

Look at where succesful coaches spend their high picks, then look where unsuccessful coaches spend theirs. Especially since this offense runs best with smaller, quick receivers, it's not surprising. they got two second round bargains in Gronk and Vollmer, but still...

I'd like to see Jackson get a few touches this week to see how he fares against the Jests front seven. Then maybe increase his workload next week vs. the Dolphins. That's the only way we're going to find out if he's got anything left in the tank before the playoff run begins.

I tend to think Steven Jackson can help the Pats in the playoffs, but I confess I'm sometimes an eternal optimist with these late season signings. :D

Maybe Trump can help save the liberal party from the thought police guys that are trying to hijack it. In the old days being a liberal was all about humanist values. Now its all about shutting down debate by marginalizing the opposition with political correct labels like bigot, fascist, racist, xenophobe etc. What's most fascinating about it is how the extreme right - Islamists are using the tools of the left to get their way..

Don't like the values preached in Islam - bigot.
Don't want fundamentalist Muslims who believe in those values to immigrate here - xenophobe.
Don't think that more people becoming Muslim is a great thing - Islamophobia.

Kinda slick for guys who believe in a flat our ridiculous story about 'god' told by a brutal but not particularly successful warlord..

There's a forum for that.

I'm concerned about hamstrings too, but not sure what you can do about them. Work him in slow.

FWIW, the guy recently was working on half-squats at 600+.

Here's a video of him from last month. Explosive Training
