If I'm not mistaken, they hold the tiebreaker over Cincy no matter what...I've plugged various scenarios into the ESPN Playoff Machine and have yet to find one where Cincy gets the head-to-head tiebreaker. Am I wrong?

If that's the case going 1-1 assures them the top seed over Denver (Denver's best case at that point is still a worse record than Pats) and Cincy (their best outcome if we go 13-3 is a tie with us, which we win.). There can't be a three way tie since Denver/Cincy play each other next week.

Three way can happen at 12-4 and in that case Denver is #1 seed because they will have swept Cincy and Denver. Pats would be #2

But the Pats would need to lose 2 games for that to happen. This thread is talking about if they lose only 1. Good point anyway though.

Yes...though three way tie could not happen if Patriots win one more game.

So that means a guaranteed bye? Yes!

would be nice to win next week, clinch the 1 seed..at the same time eliminate the jests from the playoff race at metlife!!:D
gonna be tough with all of the injured players. our line will get crushed by the jets d line

A few things -
The Steelers are in no matter what as long as they win one more game. They can't win their division.
The Broncos could still be out entirely if the Bengals beat them next week.
The Pats losing to the Jets and beating the Dolphins instead would make it more likely the Broncos would be out.
The Steelers would get the creampuff wildcard game of all-time at Houston should the Bengals beat Denver.

Even if we wind up with the 2nd seed, I can easily envision the Denver or Cinci losing at home to either KC or Pittsburgh.

That said, I hope we have the pleasure of knocking the c*cksucking motherf*cking Jets out of playoff contention next week.

So if we only lose 1 game or 0 games, we have #1 seed.
If we lose both games, and Cincy loses to Denver (and both them win their other game), we have #2 seed
If we lose both games and Cincy beats Denver (and both them win their other game),, we have #2 seed

I would almost be more inclined to rest injured players -- gronk, amendola, hightower, chung next week instead of letting them play with lingering injuries -- best case is we luck out and win,
worst case is week 17 becomes a must win -- and we have our full lineup with Edelman back, we should win that one easy and that helps keep the team a bit fresh for the playoffs (by going two weeks instead of 3 without a real game)

Yeah, would be great to win next week and then have a JimmyG game although Brady would likely get first quarter to play with JE11 a little.

Why risk losing in Week 17, when you can wrap up the #1 seed a week earlier?

Yes at 13-3 Pats win common games tiebreaker.

I don't think you are correct. There has to be a minimum of four games. What are those four games? There was Denver and whoever Cincy played from the AFC South. AIUI, the tiebreaker goes to to strength of victory which is pts scored minus points given up. Right now we lead that by 166 to 145. (Same record and same conference record).

I believe you're right, if we tie with Cincy they get number one seed.

No, it goes to strength of victory where we are currently ahead of them by 21 points, 166 to 145.
