01 ~ I obviously agree about the Chiefs.
02 ~ I like the Jaguars Call, as well. Big Fan of Bortles from way way back, and also a Fan of Coach Bradley, though that hasn't gone as well as I thought it might: They are the only Team in that Division that has any real Fire to'm, and are only a Game out, after all: They could easily win it.
Yeah. The hype in this city for the Jags is starting to reach a level I haven't seen since '07. They've put together some very nice drafts. Lee has been a miss so far but Robinson is going to be one of the best WR's in the league, Telvin Smith is outstanding, Hurns was a UFA stud, and I think Rashad Greene is going to emerge as a productive slot receiver. They have a bright future.

Here's mine. I have a couple of surprises thrown in. I think the Jags are going to win out, get some help, and win the division. They're playing some very solid football right now on both sides and they can score points. I also have the Chiefs being the "surprise team" coming out of the AFC and advancing toward doom in Foxboro...

1. Pats
2. Broncos
3. Bengals
4. Jaguars
5. Chiefs
6. Steelers

WILD CARD
Steelers at Bengals - STEELERS
Chiefs at Jaguars - CHIEFS

DIVISIONAL
Chiefs at Broncos - CHIEFS
Steelers at Pats - PATS

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP
Chiefs at Pats - PATS

Kontra has a soft spot for his local team, haha. That's cool wouldn't mind seeing the Jags get in over the sucky Colts.

I root for the Jags pretty much whenever they don't play the Pats. I've been to a couple of Jags/Pats games now and have been treated with class by Jags fans. Contrast that with the Dolphins games I've been to: sucker punched by a man in his 40's when I was 18 and a beer bottle getting winged past my head.

I'm thinking that the Steelers Smack Down the Donkeys this Week, and that the Donkeys Smack Down the Bangles next Week...and that we might very well Lock It Up with a week to go!!

My Prediction:

1 ~ Patriots
2 ~ Donkeys
3 ~ Bangles
4 ~ Who
5 ~ Chiefs
6 ~ Steelers

WC ~ #6 Steelers take out #3 Bangles.
WC ~ #5 Chiefs take out #4 Who.

DR ~ #1 Patriots vaporize #6 Steelers.
DR ~ #5 Chiefs take out #2 Donkeys.

FF ~ #1 Patriots wipe out #5 Chiefs.

How do you all see it playing out?

01 ~ Pretty funny that the Jets started this Week in the Top 6 and won last Night, yet will wind up out of the Top 6 if the Steelers and Chiefs both win, because of the aggregate affect on the TieBreakers!!
jester.gif

02 ~ And I like that Idea a great deal: Count me among those who have no particular desire to play Divisional Opponents in the PlayOffs. The old "It's hard to beat a Team 3 Times" bit is Urban Legend Chop Suey, mind you: Usually, when a Team sweeps another during the regular Season and meets'm again in the PlayOffs, they do pull off the Trifecta. But as a general Rule of Thumb, the mutual familiarity tends, I believe, to greatly reduce most Tactical and even Talent Advantages enjoyed against relative Strangers.

03 ~ Also: The Jets, did I not detest their very Existence, would've been one'f my Pet Teams, this Year: I predicted tremendous things of them in my Preview, last Summer, based almost entirely on their having hired Todd Bowles as their new Head Coach...but also conditional on Geno Smith losing his Job!! :D

04 ~ Anybody surprised to realize that the Chiefs have won 7 in a row??

05 ~ I presume absolutely nothing, but I love the way things are set up right now: There's an awfully good Chance that the Steelers beat on the Donkeys today and yet that the Donkeys turn around next week and knock out the Bangles, who probably won't have Dalton back at that Point...and that we beat the Jets!!

06 ~ We could very well cruise into Week 17 with Home Field Advantage locked up!! Can you believe it?? That would certainly shock and amaze quite a few of us who as recently as 1 week ago were looking at a Bye as a Long Shot and Home Field Advantage as a Miracle!! What a remarkably resilient Team.

07 ~ It would be a tremendous boost to be able to continue to Rest & Recuperate some key Players through Week 17 and the Bye, as well, should things shake out that way. I recognize and respect the Argument that it's best to play constantly to keep that Edge...But I'm with the School of Thought that believes that much more is potentially gained from the extra Time than is lost, and that Mad Bill is the World's foremost expert on treading that line to his Team's greatest Advantage, producing a Team both rested and Razor Sharp.

08 ~ As for the Steelers, should things shake out that way: I've always loved that Team and certainly greatly respect their current Version, but Coach Bill The Mad (Genius) and General Tom Brady have always enjoyed great Success against that particular Defense. I presume Nothing, but I do like our Chances.

Woot!! Great ComeBack by the Steelers!! :D

Looking good, Patriots!!

First Round Bye!! Me Oh My!!
beer.gif

Even if we Lose Out and Denver Wins Out, the worst that happens is a 3 Way Tie!!

Denver'd get the #1 with the Sweep, but we'd beat Cincy on Conference Record!!

And if Cincy beats Denver, we automatically beat out Denver on Won/Loss!!

1st Round Bye is clinched, baby!!

Next Up: Home Field Advantage!!

Good call on the Jags, Kontra!

Is there a realistic scenario where Pats have the 1# seed and the Steelers don't make the play offs? I'd fancy our chances but they are by far the biggest obsticale to the Super Bowl

IMHO with a bye in hand it's time to rest people. I'd rather have a healthy team at home for the divisional round and on the road in the AFCC than a MASH unit with HFA. My $.02

I believe the Yets have been bumped by the Steelers for #6 and MUST beat the Pats next week. They're going to go balls out next week and I'm sick of the injuries, let them have this one. Miami is the more easily winnable game as they're already toast and can only play spoiler.

I can't remember ever rooting for the Steelers before, but it probably happened.

Jets fans are in the position we used to be in for years, needing help from another team and getting squat in return. I wonder how they liked that comeback? ;)

Indy lost at home to Houston, a team who doesn't even have a QB. Someone pinch me. :D

And who doesn't love seeing the Ravens bringing up the rear of the AFC?

Not bad. I certainly missed on the Patriots and Donkeys Seeding, though.

I may be wrong, but I get the sense that when the History of this Season is entirely known ~ if it ever is, that is ~ it will be revealed that Bill The Mad (Genius) made a remarkably shrewd and exceptionally courageous Decision yesterday to risk Home Field Advantage in favor of his Team's Health.

It sort of reminds me of Bobby Fisher's magnificent Gambit in The Greatest Game of Chess Ever Played, when he sacrificed his Queen (HFA?) but in so doing gained an enormous Tactical Advantage.

An enormous Risk, to be certain...but in my opinion: a brilliant one.

All men are fallible, and every single Play in every single Game is at best a Chance for Advantage, not a Sure Thing: The other Coach may not be as good as Mad Bill ~ he isn't ~ but if he guesses right enough times, we'll probably lose to an inferior Team that we would likely beat 8 times out'f 10.

That's difficult even for me to accept, even as I write it, but if you understand this Game, you understand that fact. Random Chance does play a factor ~ albeit a small one, thank the Gods ~ and that is why the expression On Any Given Sunday is immutable Truth, much as we'd all like to believe it isn't.

But On Any Given Sunday ~ or Saturday ~ there's no other Team or Coach I'd be prouder to root for.

Yes, men are fallible, Random Chance does play a part, and I do believe that there are Verminous Scum in New York conspiring to cheat and rob us because New York's always had an Inferiority Complex about New EngLand ~ for good reason ~ and there are Corrupt Parasites always willing to help them, for Corrupt Parasites will do anything for Money, which is what this is all about with them.

But I don't believe that any of the 12 Teams still standing will be better prepared to win it all.

Any Fan basing his Expectations based on yesterday's Game is making a big Mistake.

I believe that we have enjoyed such preposterously sustained Success since Mad Bill took the wheel that many a good Fan has lost sight of just how incredibly thin the line is between Winning and Losing.

And I believe that that causes many of us to react to Losses with a sense of shock...even betrayal.

But the line between Winning and Losing is wafer thin, my friends.

What Mad Bill has managed, ere these 15 Years, is miraculous.

Liberate yourself from Presumption, I beg'f thee.

Liberate yourself from Entitlement.

Enjoy this Historic Ride.

WildCard Predictions:

01 ~ The Chiefs (-3) will play SmallBall on Offense while their Defense crushes Planet Hoosten's Offense.
02 ~ The Steelers (-2) will easily extend Marvin Lewis's PlayOff Losing Streak to 7.
03 ~ The SeaHawks (-5) will smack the Hell out'f the Vikings on both sides of the Ball.
04 ~ The Packers (0) will school the inexperienced and mediocre RedSkins.

I'm with you this far...was thinking very similarly last night.

Liberate yourself from Entitlement.

I don't think I can do this, with regards to the Pats. It is the one luxury of Entitlement that I allow myself, at least with minimal challenge. :)

Agree on all counts. The SeaHawks are probably going to win by two touchdowns.

I dunno Grid. It just seems like Bill has lost a little something off his fastball. The management of the game at the end of the half in some of the games is head-scratching. Last season, we seemed to fall apart on defense at the end of the half allowing TDs when there was just over a minute in the GB game, 11 seconds in the Miami game and 31 seconds in the SB. This season, we didn't even try to at least get a FG in the Denver game (cost us the game), punted with 8 seconds to go in the Eagles game (resulting in a block returned for a TD), and squandered an opportunity at the end of the half in the second Jets game. Then we have yesterday's disappointing kneeldown at the end of the half. I wonder why other teams don't know you can't score in less than two minutes?

The Packers are 1 Point Dogs??? How is that possible???

Bet the House, baby!! :D
