INTERCEPTED!!! BY MALCOLM BUTLER!!! AT THE GOALINE!!!! UNREAL!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My view of the article depends heavily on whether or not it includes one essential point -- and it does.

Without that, it would be a hatchet job. With that, it's an attempt to do good journalism.

Putting essential facts that contradict the lede and headline at the bottom of the article when most people have already stopped reading is not good journalism - it is the opposite of that. It is still a smear piece.

The contradicting information is put in there as a fig leaf for defamation suits and so that these editors can still lie to themselves that they are 'fair and objective'. You see this all the time from the the MSM on regular news 'reporting'.

You never get the clear truth - that the Patriots are paying for services that they players themselves choose.

This is the thin gruel that the Globe was able to sift out of all the deflategate email.

Globe probably spent more on reporting on this 'story' than Brady makes in profits this year off this.

It's a hatchet job

Frankly, I think the sequence was and is:
  • Is Guerrero dirty? Yes.
  • Does this reflect badly on the ethics of Brady and/or the Patriots? No.
I agree strongly with the second bullet point and have mixed feelings about the first one, so I don't see a strong basis for outrage at the article.

That said, I didn't find it interesting enough to read verbatim at that length. :)

There's one other issue that could be at play: does Brady directly benefit from any such expenditures? For example, if the ownership structure mandated that Brady receive 10% of all revenues, then one could argue that 10% of whatever the Patriots paid to the company should count against the cap.

That's where they need to be careful.

I'm sure players are part owners of lots of companies the NFL pays. If they decided to go that route they would need to start chipping away at everyone with stock in Nike and a thousand other companies. The salary cap formula is known. It either counts this or it doesn't.

Given the effort put in with no results I'm sure the answer is it doesn't count.

He made claims about a nutrient in an infomercial, right? That makes him dirty? He's obviously not been a succesful supplement salesman, but I don't believe his supplements were illegal to take or sell and Brady takes some, I believe.

He seems to be a great trainer and Brady's results from his diet are astounding measured by any metric.

Not sure what the financial services industry has to do with providing alternative physical therapy services to players. Not sure why posters keep on alluding that this may be a salary cap violation issue when both NFL and NFLPA both stated this has nothing to do with salary cap.

Brady is an investor, he doesn't physically do anything (massages, therapy, sell drinks, etc.). If Brady owned 10% of Nike stock and the NFL teams ALL buy crap from Nike, the stock shoots up and TB makes a profit, is he skirting the salary cap by profiting from services or merchandise purchased by an NFL team?

In the financial services industry, there are lots of instances of possible conflict of interest I have seen which is what this relationship is being painted as by some people with regard to the salary cap. This is why I say the Patriots and TB need to be careful. That's all.

Just because Brady "doesn't physically do anything" has nothing to do with this. Though the fact that TB is himself following up on unpaid invoices belies even that reasoning. This is not the point though, it is the fact that he COULD be a major investor in this business and in turn be one of the primary beneficiaries of a monetary relationship with an organization who has to live by unique rules like a salary cap.

This is not a case of owning $5 million worth of shares in a company like MSFT that is worth billions and where the person has no control and is merely a passive investor. This is why I hope that the check and balance system actually turns out to be transparent.

I am not saying they are skirting the rules in any way because it looks like the service they provide to the team is truly unique and beneficial based on the statements by players who have used them. You have come out in staunch defense of a situation we know very little about because you are a big fan of him and the Patriots. I am too by the way which is why I am not condemning either of them in any way. I just hope they are aware how this looks like to some and that they have taken steps to make sure that all is kosher.

I get your point. To me though this is a smear article to tie Brady by association to Guerrero's past. Article says that Kraft has one of his guys in the company. Kraft is a smart businessman and I'm sure has vetted this operation from a business ethics, financial viability, and legal standard aspect. These are grown men.

It appears Brady has expressed a desire to pursue this health crap after he retires. Maybe Kraft is helping him out with the business start up (in a legal way).

I don't know any of the details nor do I care. I just find it completely distasteful the yellow journalism being used if you can even call it journalism. It is sickening and anyone that gives any credence to this crap (salary cap implications) which is the only football related aspect is falling in trolling Volin's trap.

Brady seems brainwashed by this guy but you can't argue with the results. It's concerning that a man with multiple fraud cases in his past seems to have so much influence over him. People can change but often the root cause of fraud is some sort of addictive behavior (e.g. spending, gambling, etc.) that will continue to drive them to lie, cheat, and steal to get what they need. Screw the salary cap - Brady getting ripped off by this guy is the far greater likelihood.

The other thing that sounded weird from the article was the fact that Brady was contacting legal counsel for an invoice. Could be nothing, but it could also suggest an issue requiring escalation, which could suggest the company TB12 being under some sort of financial pressure. And who would make that happen????

You guys need sports reporters like we have in Charlotte. Rainbows an Unicorns 24/7. Lol

Everything that is wrong with our society is visible in your post. Guerrero came under fire years ago and suddenly everything he ever will do in life is automatically shady?

Where do you take this arrogance from to think you can judge people that you only ever heard of because of hit pieces?

Maybe more importantly who are you to call Brady brainwashed and being ripped off? This might be among the stupidest things I have read in a while.

Brady invested into something he believes in. I am totally confident that all of it was looked at legally very comprehensively and no matter what Volin that fat **** implies there are no issues here. Whether their product/service makes sense scientifically or not is beside the point. Otherwise we need to have a gigantic conversation about advertising in general.

If Brady takes any supplements from this guy, I hope he has the contents triple checked by the league.

Brady has been following his program for years and it had paid off big time, and if there were anything illegal in it then he would have tested positive for it by now.

Brady is a grown man and can make his own decisions despite of what you may think. He seems to have done pretty damn well for himself without having to listen to your advice or that of anyone else on this site.

This is the problem with this thread and the reason I gave it a dislike. The local news feed doesn't have anything from the Globe and yet here we are our own fans putting this Volin generated trash on here.

If I were a Mod I would delete this thread, it's useless crap and only leads to useless speculation. By the way J Kraft flat out denied the premise of the article that there was tension between Pats staff and Guerrero or TB12. I choose to believe Jonathan over that little puke troll Volin.

Please throw this thread in the garbage where it belongs.
