Pats 3rd most injured team (after Giants, Ravens)

Miami is the least injured team in the league by a good margin and they still suck enough to get the coach fired and get his replacement to the one and done list?! Wow!

There are some obsessive people out there! :)

But you don't have to be a Ph.D. statistician to see what an outlier the Patriots are. (On my screen they are, literally, off the chart!)

I recall this same thing in 2003 or 2004. I forget which year but the injuries were crazy

'04, when we had Troy Brown as a CB. What a great team that was. If we win it all this year, we may have to think about putting this team in that kind of rarified air.

Yep, they're in the top 10% in games lost, and are currently a #1 seed.

Every single other team with a winning record ranks in the bottom third. Amazing.

It is interesting how much of an outlier NE is on that plot. There isn't really a strong correlation between games lost to injury and wins, but no team with over 8 wins has more than 93 games lost, where NE has 167 games lost at 11 wins. Every other team with more than 140 games lost has 6 wins or less.

I think you're reading the plot incorrectly. PIT, NYJ and KC are all in the top half in games lost and have an 8-5 record.

I have been performing the ritual dance weekly for the injury Gods, but it may be time for a sacrifice.

Thanks, you're absolutely right. My mind defaulted to 8 wins = 50%.

I've been wondering if anyone had done this.
Would like to see the detail regarding injury impact. For example, and argument could be made that losing the #3 OT is worse than losing the #1 OT, because the dropoff to #4 is so steep that you end up with far more damage to the offense's functionality. By the same token, losing James White would be devestating to the Pats right now, even though he's the #4 RB.

Uh, no.

I do think that the incremental value of the replacement is important to consider. If Option 1 is 100%, option 2 is 90%, option 3 is 75%, and option 4 is 50%, then yes, the dropoff from 3 to 4 is enormous compared with 1 to 2. That's why Brady has been hit on a higher percentage of passes in the last few games than he has in any comparable stretch of his career, if you can believe the network's infographics.

Meh. They count Suggs as a bigger loss than Romo, even corrected for number of games missed. QBs are simply much more important than other players. The point about the Pats stands, of course. Their one tough organization.

Interesting to compare the Pats with the previous seasons version of the Seahawks. Similarly, they followed a year with moderate injury loss that included a super bowl, with an incredibly high amount of injuries compared to other top teams the following season.

Good tough teams always figure it out, but I do wonder about the physical toll it takes to consistantly compete at that highest level.

Exactly. It is a huge difference. When they have to play Fleming and Cannon at OT, the entire offense starts to fall apart. Playing the guys in front of them on the roster is much more manageable, even though you lose pro bowl players to get to that point.
