Easley to IR

Mike Petraglia just tweeted..

Source tells me LeGarrette Blount is done for year with hip injury.

My guess is that it will be on the transaction report tomorrow.

Just to stir the pot on the possibility of Blount going to IR, Christine Michael was cut by the Redskins. All the talent, and clearly none of the required head/heart. He'll be talked about by it seems pretty clear he's not an NFL player.

With his injury history, I view whenever he's able to play as a bonus. He's good when he's in there. It's just a matter of when he's in there.

Indeed, he certainly isn't reliable nor can his contribution be counted on. Shame.

It would be special if we can overcome all these injuries. I wish we didn't have 3 games left considering the injuries we have. I have to root for the squealers to make it easier down the stretch for HFA.

In one sense, a huge loss because he may the most consistently disruptive player on the DL. In another, not so much because the loss comes at the deepest position (knocking profusely on wood).

Already had Butler on the list.. The 5 players I mentioned were Collins, Hightower, Jones, Butler and Sheard..

Ah I missed your post, I was quoting Manxman who was quoting you apparently so I didn't see that far back

If the Seahawks could afford all of their defensive contracts, Lynch, Graham and Wilson then the Patriots should be able to figure out how to keep all of their homegrown guys. I'd love to keep all of them but I think some team is just going to blow the socks off of at least 1 of them if they hit FA that we can't match.

That was when russell wilson was on his rookie contract. Watch now what happens after this year.

easley is a bigger loss than blount because they can find somehow to run the ball a bit if edelman comes back. Easley has provided some quality rushes this year and our DLine's strong depth has kept our pass rush fresh.

Sucks that he will be gone, but big boy Brown is picking it up as of late getting to the passer, and so is Hicks. So we will be fine. Will just miss him making an impact out there.

Akiem Hicks stepped up yesterday even before Easley went out. That being said, you're right, losing Easely hurts. Especially since the only back-up DT the Pats have is Siliga, who is a run stuffer. This will put a lot more pressure on Hicks and Brown going forward.

I just heard the news about Blount and Easley, and started reading the last page of the Easley thread.

The first thing that came to mind when I read your post, Bob, is that they said the same thing about Julian Edelman. The thing is about injuries is that they happen when the happen. You can't predict them. There have been a lot of very good players in this league who started their careers with the injury plagued label.

I hope Easley falls into this category. He would have been an important player in the DL rotation. Over the last 10 games or so, Easley was getting consistent interior pressure. Sunday was typical of what he had been producing with one sack and 2 QB hits in just 12 snaps before he got hurt.

The good news is that given the interior DL rotation that has been going on this season, NO individual loss is catastrophic, but Easley had some skills that weren't matched by anyone else on the roster. He will be missed. Here is hoping he comes back even better next season, and puts to rest all the injury issues like so many others.

And I wonder how many come from Hightower/Collin's pressures too. Watching him the last w-3 weeks, I think Jones' sack numbers this year have been a little flattering to him. He can be great at times, but he's still not consistent enough for my liking at getting pressure.

Jones was a no show this past week. Our two best defenders were Sheard and Hicks. Hopefully, he'll get back that momentum that he had earlier in the season :)

Really somebody give that kid a v8 and maybe some new gloves.

Easley or Blount as the biggest loss

EASLEY
We have 4 DT's that are just fine thank you: Branch, Hicks, Brown and Siliga
We even have others who occasionally play inside, or can if needed.

BLOUNT
We usually start a season with 4 RB's and a FB. We now have a total of TWO players: a backup 3rd down back White, and a STer and emergency 5th RB.

We have no else who has been on the team for 2 weeks, and no one else who taken a rep for us.

Let's be CLEAR. Losing Blount is a serious loss.

Blount is the bigger loss for sure.

Easley was looking promising but the Pats have depth at DL.
