One of the reason men might have been paying is due to the fact that credit card companies would not issue a credit card to single women and if you were married, you had to have your husband co-sign...that's a fact.

Also, women couldn't open up checking accounts in the 50s

There was also no such thing as sexual harassment.. no consequences

Couldn't be raped by your husband.

Most women couldn't get a corporate interview and the reason could be "you are a woman".

Yes, the 50s...where weak men feel strong and strong women are suppressed...

Yes, the glorious 50s where men were men and women were property.

And here we are today where women are leading fulfilling lives as office plant life in corporate cubical farms during their peak fertility years. Instead of wasting their lives by having/being with their children, they can use that time productively to help the corporate pod people make money.

And on the weekends, they can go clubbing where they can hook up with assorted d-bag metrosexuals for those fulfilling 1 nighters.

And as they become older and less attractive, of course there are still going to be countless handsome men lining up to marry them if they so choose. Just like "Sex in the City" taught them. Because real life is just like that!

Yessir, women have never been happier! Thanks progressives/PC crowd for showing them the light!

I understand the struggles in the past of women, but I don't buy all the number games about equal pay in today's society and my reasoning is because ive seen the exact opposite play out in my 17 years as a working class adult

I said I was disengaging, but you're confusing anecdote with data. The BLS statistics I posted are the definitive word on this.

Your misinterpretation of what I'm saying, failure to acknowledge the biggest factor, dismissal of the fact that at some of the highest paying jobs women make more and your disengagement from the thread betray a desperate grasping at an inaccurate perspective. I understand, I used to believe the propaganda of the ultra feminists. The irony is that the true feminists who strive for genuine equality take offense the the propaganda and view it as part of the problem.

Yes, there is certainly wage inequality and something needs to be done. That said, false and misleading information is not going to help resolve the issue, and in many cases make it worse. Western thought tends to try to treat the symptoms of problems and ignore the source. Peoples' tendency to blindly accept the roles and perspectives that they are prescribed is the root of the problem. Until that is addressed, these types of issues will never truly be solved.

I just don't find it useful or interesting to debate with someone who neglects to provide any evidence for their claims, sorry.

No doubt you'll next start lecturing us on how all the Betas are screwing things up for you manly man Alphas.

I was going to go with the classic "wussification" of America but I think you get my point.

Here's the problem with the Betas: beer. Especially the mass-marketed swill advertised as beer. I believe there's a conspiracy happening in this country aimed at reducing American manhood to legions of Betas -- all soft, round and stupid. It's not the alcohol as much as whatever testosterone-killing ingredients are added to the likes of Bud Light, etc. I see it at every Pats game: hundreds of young idiots lining up in cold weather to spend $7 a pop on watered-down crap that makes them stupider, causing them to buy even more. This leads to obnoxious display behaviors followed by nausea and loss of consciousness. It's a crisis I tell you, worse than any terrorist threat and perpetrated in the name of "fun."

You apparently didn't get mine, though.

No, I really don't.

I think the Alpha-Beta thing is a silly classification. I'd go with enlightened or clueless.

When it comes to women, some guys seem to "get it" i.e. the ones happy in a marriage or the ones who get laid a lot; and some guys who just don't i.e. those poor souls who are "friend zoned," divorced, or in some dysfunctional relationship where they're henpecked, ****olded, and/or otherwise used and abused. I see more and more of the later and not nearly enough of the former and it seems to be getting worse.

But we've gone way off topic and that's going to be my last word on this.

Wow. You posted this "I understand the difference between "actual" equality and the "doublespeak" version of equality used by the PC crowd.

Most people don't." right after the post I quoted. That's ****ed up.

He's a PDF that shows some much better data. That said, it wasn't your "data" that I disagreed with, it is the conclusions which you draw from it. Perhaps all caps will help this time I NEVER SAID THERE WASN'T A WAGE GAP AND HAVE STATED THAT IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED".

I agree that time spent giving birth and raising babies significantly hamstrings a women's earning potential later on. Although we can't take away the pregnancy and birth part, as a society, we surely should have a much more even focus on both parents taking time off and raising children. That said, this factor is not nearly as large as the tendency for each gender to subscribe to the roles our society has traditionally imposed upon them. This doesn't just include where they seek employment, it affects training and education choices both early and later in our development. When actual training and experience are factored in, women make a little bit less than similarly equipped men, but that number shrinks and even disappears as the skill, complexity and compensation of the profession increases.

Dig deeper man. The root of the problem is in such deep, entrenched gender roles in our culture. We can't remove pregnancy and birth as a factor, but when society starts preparing our sexes equally and encourages them choose their own path, wage inequality will cease. All this misinformation and treating of symptoms is getting in the way of resolving the root of the problem.

Okay, I agree with you.

Well at least you don't try to hide your belief that women belong in the kitchen. Your opinion about women as refs makes a whole lot more sense in that context.

For a moment there I entertained the possibility that someone might arrive at your position through something other than good old-fashioned bigotry. And maybe that is the case, but it sure as hell isn't what happened here.

Orwell truly was a genius. I hope the HS kids are still reading 1984 and walking away with the right lesson.

I forgot who said the line that 1984 was supposed to be a "cautionary tale" not a "how to" manual.

I'm not a half-bad cook myself and enjoy being in the kitchen much, much more than I ever did working in an office.

But to each his/her own, I guess.

I'm a much better cook than my wife and it pisses me off. She recently bought herself a power drill, I couldn't care less.

Should've sent in TB to handle things...

Alpha, Beta...wish I belonged. Unfortunately, I'm way down the sociological scale...PSYCHO.

Wow, you're a real catch. You sound like someone with a lot of issues.

BTW, let me know when you want to compare service records since you've got everyone all sized up. I have no problem with sharing them.

Or, you can just give out some more manly dislikes...your call

Yeah, heaven forbid you recognize that not every woman wants to stay at home and pop out kids for a living.

What about people, men and women, who do think that there's a place for each gender and it might not coincide with your view? My wife and I decided that our kids would be better off with me working and her staying home to raise the kids, not the other way around or by us making more money by both working? I'd be willing to bet any amount that our kids turned out better off for it.
