Blandino claims Gronk straightened his arm and so OPI call was good

To think that this is the state of most popular game and probably the most popular media program in the country is depressing.

Love how he singles out the Gronk play and not the other dozens of other F-ed up calls from this past weekend's games.

I assume he did that to legitimize the 6 OPI calls on Gronk from the last 9 games

Or maybe he's trying to justify the 7 OPI calls on Gronk from the previous 67 games?:p

What an agenda-driven a-hole....

I want Brady to go full longest yard on the ref next time they pull that ****, have Gronk run a drag right behind the ref and Brady rips a 70mph fastball right to the testicles. Then Gronk can loom and look huge "call it fair or he'll hit the other nut"

Actually, there are refs all over the field. Have gronk use the refs to pick the defender a few times. I don't believe gronk himself has to give ground to the refs, they need to get out of his way, so it could be a fitness test. Have gronk run a pattern aiming right at a ref every play, see how nimble they are

Do it to the head ref. They will get the message and it will filter down

There are a couple HS kids that can teach ref takedown techniques as well...

obviously not serious for those who don't get the implied sarcasm

Next gam gronk plays in, he should run straight at the opposing teams best cb from the slot, and launch at his chest/neck. He can then turn to the officials and calmly state, "That is OPI, any BS and you'll be wishing you were blindsided by a hs kid like that ass hat cousin of yours from Texas(or whatever state that was)."

Paging Dave Cowens...Paging Dave Cowens...

Not for long. People will begin to tune out either way. They'll have to correct it and make these reviewable which will slow the game even more or they'll allow ineptitude to keep taking place which will force people like me and others to tune out on a more consistent basis. I didn't watch this game after the first OPI was called.

Scientists have concluded that real pain lasts in the memory longer than messages.

Absolutely. Of course the "actual" [read it in a celtics book] cowens story involves Dave getting ticky tacky calls like Grons OPI. Next play, he levels a guy [before blatant foul rule] shoots his hand in the air then say's "now that's a foul.

I have recommended Gronk do this to the little DB in a game that's not competitive and see if they give him a little more ground, DB and ref.

EDIT didn't read the post you quoted thoroughly. That's the story.

I remember that Cowens incident very well. The flopper who drew the "foul" on Cowens was Mike Newlin. I forget if he was playing for Houston or New Jersey, but Cowens absolutely plowed him. One of my favorite Celtics memories of all time. Of course, if that happened today, he would be suspended.

I see, Dean, but I guess the defender placing his arm on Gronk's chest and trying to hold him up before separation was created, was not Defensive Pass Interference, right, even though it happened past the 5 yds downfield from the line of scrimmage.
You are right. It wasn't DPI. It was defensive holding (since the ball wasn't in the air)

Especially when you watch a college game and the officiating is better than the pro's. Ive been able to watch a few college games this year, the officiating reminds me of what it was like in the pros years ago. No flag-a-thons, the refs don't make themselves part of the game as in the nfl. i also don't see the absured calls we've become use to this year.

They were all good calls in the 4th quarter. Especially since they were all against the Pats. Yep, that Denver team is just far more disciplined than those Patriots. ;)

>>can someone post a gif of the alleged PI?

Not permitted, and just to be clear, this can be seen starting at 4:25 in the video you get by going to the following site (click on "Home" below) and clicking on "Officiating Video, Week 12."

Home

(It opens in a pop-up, so no way I know of to link directly to video.)

So the alleged offense happens right at the end of their contact as Gronk stems his route - it is not the initial contact at all, which is what I think many (including me) have assumed.

I was there! And it was Houston.
