Red Sox sign Price for 7 years .... $217 million reportedly.... wow.

Post season ERA = 5.12 .... :confused:o_O:confused:

Lester got $155 million for 6 years = 25.8 million a season.

What changed?

7 years 217m deal.

Wow.

On one hand, my god that's a lot of money!

On the other hand, the biggest weakness on the Sox by a mile was pitching. Major, major upgrade.

I'm thinking about becoming a pro baseball player.

this is why the pats>> red sox

Given that they are completely different systems, "this" has nothing to do with anything.

Well wuppedity doo.

Well why would he is the question? He's gonna be 31 next year. Hope we get at least 4 good years out of him. Very risky

Opt out after 3 a la CC Sabathia. So bascially it's a front loaded (most likely) contract is in essence a 3 year deal. Very little risk.

Because if he has 3 good years by then the going rate will be higher, he'll only be 33 and some team for sure will be foolish enough to pony up. What he's getting is just the price of doing business for guys like him.

It isn't because of that salary cap thingy is it Deus?

They could have saved a fortune by signing Lester last year, instead.

Lester is on the downside big time. Velocity dropping every year and only thing that will sort of save him is the National League, and he knew that too. I'd rather pay Price 5 mil more a year for 3 than the 170 for 7 (essentially) for Lester.

Baseball has a luxury tax system, but that still allows teams to sign whomever they choose. The "reason" the Patriots > Red Sox is as simple as "BB + TB", and history shows that pretty conclusively.

I used to be a big baseball fan, so tell me, how much guaranteed money would you need to pay for a pitcher with more than one 20 game season?

Nice work if you can get it, I guess. Makes Revis look like a parsimonious decision.
