Was anyone else shocked NBC said outright that Brady > Peyton?

NBC ran a few-minute-promo on the Brady/Manning rivalry during the Broncos game, with Bob Costas concluding that Tom Brady decisively won the rivalry. It even went so far as to show Peyton with his pouty face while the Costas narration asked, to paraphrase, "How will Peyton handle knowing he was as good as he was, but still wasn't the best quarterback of his generation?"

I was surprised to hear NBC acknowledge what Patriot fans have been telling dumb ass Colt and Bronco fans for over a decade.

I think it's hard for even the haters to deny it when you look at the two of them and realize that, despite the fact that they are very close in age, one is a complete shell of himself and the other is still going extremely strong. Then add in the fact that one has 4 rings vs the other having 1, has done more with less on offense his whole career, and is currently the defending champ, and it's just hard to come to the conclusion that Manning is somehow "better" by any objective measure. Better at throwing for more yards in the regular season in September, maybe?

On the downside, if Brady keeps going as strong as he is for another year or two, I have no doubt the haters will start throwing PED accusations at him.

The Super Bowl win was the slam dunk that ended the conversation about Brady vs. Manning. In retrospect, it's a blowout. Now the NFL and much of the media have transitioned from Manning to Rodgers and many of us, myself included, are sensitive to that and are overly harsh on Rodgers. Because of course, we have been through this before. Rodgers is prettier to watch, but Brady is on another level. Not physically, but mentally, just as it was with Manning. We want our guy to get the credit the he deserves, but will always be lacking.

I think that's what Rex Ryan is trying to hint at during his many "I don't know how Brady does it" comments.

Wouldn't be surprised.

You don't have to wait a year or two, there's already rumblings about that on other messageboards. Granted its only by rival fans right now, but it won't take the media long to pick it up and run with it.

I have news for you, Ross. They already have.

See Michael Felger as far back as 5 or 6 years ago.

It's sort of like the Jeter vs. Nomar rivalry. The Sox fan base sang the praises of Nomar for years and years but over time even this rivalry was one sided to the point where even Sox fans had to finally tip their hat to Jeter.

4 Rings and 0 Competition Committee lobbying versus 1 ring and 2 Rule changes.

Brady > *

It's not like that because Nomar during his Sox time had way better numbers than Jeter, and a single batter in baseball has alot less to do with winning than a QB does in football. Jeter wins longetivity in a landslide though as Nomar declined fast after being injured.

Also, Manning's numbers aren't actually any better than Brady's when you compare similar game situations (outdoor, cold weather, indoor only, etc) despite Brady having overall worse receivers

Oh I don't think you have to tell Broncos fans twice. I don't think they have the same blind love for Peyton the way Colts fans do. For the most part they know he sucks. I think last year during the playoffs a lot of em knew Peyton would fold like a lawn chair. "He's no Brady."

Only due to injury. Nomar in his prime > Jeter in his prime.

Just like Brady in his prime (which might as well just be his whole career, let's face it) > Manning in his prime

Fivehead fans hang on. I just had a bizarre convo with a dude, who was a Colts fan until going to the AFC Championship game in Foxboro this past January. He hated the Colts after that, and the whole Defamegate mess, and is a Pats fan. He still says Manning is the GOAT, but based on what? I have no idea. Didn't make sense to me. The claim is that Manning had no receivers and Brady is lucky to have BB. There will always be something for the haters/Fivehead ballwashers.
