Patriots - Broncos: Which Team Is Hurt More By Injuries?

John Morgan

The reality is that NFL football is the ultimate team sport, nothing at all like individual sports such as boxing, golf or tennis. This leads to the question: which team in Sunday night's feature game suffers more from injuries they are needing to overcom

I don't need to read the article. Patriots. They have more impactful injuries than Denver.

Edit: Opps. I thought it was one of those puff national pieces that tried to put Denver/Pats on semi equal footing :p After a closer look I saw it wasn't. Was very fair and accurate.

@John Morgan - Could you please cite where got that Boyce was given an injury settlement? Everything that @Miguel has found has shown this not to be the case.. That Boyce was IRed and no settlement was reached..

Pats 100%

Pats 100%
Broncos. Pats are really hurting, but they still have Brady and Gronk and a couple of capable munchkins, not to mention Blount Force Trauma. But the Broncos w/o Manning are in very bad shape indeed.

We can still run 3 tight end sets. My dream team..

I just read that Keyshawn Martin is expected to play tonight.

Without bias, I honestly think the Patriots are hurt more

Your conclusion will match your expectations. Since some fans and observers believed Peyton was toast last year, one could reason that passing the torch to Orsweiler could be an upgrade for Denver.

While I would most certainly defer to Miguel in salary cap matters, everything I found indicated Boyce must have reached some type of injury settlement with the Patriots.

If Boyce was placed on Injured Reserve then he would still be on the Patriots roster; that is not the case.

TEAM ROSTER

Per NFL rules, a team cannot waive a player that is injured. For the player's protection in that circumstance there is the waived/injured designation.

Injured Reserve rules need an overhaul | National Football Post

Waived/Injured: When a team waives an injured player any other team may claim him. If a player clears waivers the player is immediately reverted to IR or the team will negotiate an injury settlement to allow the player to pursue other opportunities with another club.

So the question is, was Boyce injured at the time when he was waived? According to this article, he was. (Bold emphasis mine).

Patriots place Josh Boyce, Jonathan Krause on injury waivers for roster flexibility

But the two receivers, Josh Boyce and Jonathan Krause, were designated with the injury tag per the NFL official waiver wire

If I was wrong with my information on Boyce, I sincerely apologize - but from everything that I found he must have been released with some sort of injury settlement, even if it was very minimal. Hope that helps, and thanks for reading as well as the feedback.

I know that the Patriots.com website doesn't have him listed. But that doesn't mean anything.
I know that the NFL.com website does have Boyce listed as being on the roster. But, again, that doesn't mean anything.

Neither are "official".

NFLPA lists Boyce as an active player with the Patriots as well.

I stand corrected... thanks.

No worries, JMT.. It's a confusing thing when your team's own site doesn't have the proper information..

Really?!? Is this a discussion?

Ok, both teams are decimated on the o-line. So that is a wash.

The Pats have been without Collins for a month and the Broncos have been without Ware for about the same amount of time. Collins is more important than Ware IMHO.

The Pats lost Edelman for about six weeks, Dion Lewis for the season, Amendola for a game or two, Gronk for who knows how long. The Broncos lost Emmauel Sanders for a game. Do I need to say who got the shorter end of the stick?

LOL. What kind of question is this? Yeah let's see the Broncos lose DT, Emmanuel Sanders, CJ Anderson...then I'll entertain this.

Don't forget about Hightower and Coleman.
