WR Aaron Dobson placed on IR

Bullsh.t, Dobson has spent most of his career watching from either the sidelines or the hot tub. I refrained from criticizing him until he failed to produce again this season and that was more than enough time for him to show something. To this point he is a massive bust. The only time he produced anything is when he is 100% healthy and wide open. He's soft, period. Time to move on from him.

I'd still have him in 2016 camp but if as I fear he gets "hurt" he's just gone, no waiting. Some folks are just not built for football.

And yes, I remember Edelperson's early years.

I agree, I would absolutely bring him back but he is going to have to show ahell of a lot more to stick around. He doesn't contribute on special teams and he isn't much of a blocker but I have always hoped he could become a real threat downfield and outside of the hashes, unfortunately it just doesn't materialize.I would give him one more shoot but draft to replace, him.

Not really. I'm a believer in Dobson but the simple fact is he's had 3 years in New England, has done next to nothing and is less durable than Shawn Crable and Ras-I Dowling. It may be time to cut our losses and move on.
He'll get another shot next year. Brady was targeting him a lot more in games these past few games which implies that Dobson had proved himself in practice. There's no downside to keeping him around TC.

No, it doesn't.

Dobson's high for targets was week 2. Week 10 was when Edelman was injured.

I always believed the Patriots passed on K. Allen because he was like A Boldin, a tough jump ball receiver who struggled to get open but won the battles for the ball. Dobson was more what they were looking for in terms of playing outside the hash marks and stretching the field. Brady doesn't like throwing it up for grabs so they shy away from guys who make their living winning balls. At this point Dobson has had more than enough time and opportunity and has failed to produce enough to justify a roster spot.

Allen is one of the best route runners in football. He was on pace for a 135 catch season. My Opinion is with his Great hands and awesome route running ability, he would have caught a lot of balls for tom Brady

Looks like TE Asante Cleveland is the replacement - a Gronk-sized blocking tight end. Interesting replacement. He's a pretty athletic guy but not much of a pass catcher. That makes four TEs on the active roster - Mike Williams, Gronk, Chandler and Cleveland. I wonder if Chandler will be a healthy inactive.

Williams and Cleveland inside as blocking TEs. Gronk and Chandler split wide.

Have any of you ever heard of Eric Lora. He was Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target during his time at Eastern Illinois. He went Undrafted at the time, but I always felt he was the perfect player for the team to sign as a UDFA or a practice player candidate.

His style of player reminds me so so so much of Juelz. Scrappy player who get open and fight hard for extra YAC. He moved a lot in and out of the slot. Thats not even considering his Combine measurable. They're like identical.

He spent time on the vikings practice squad last season, and some time on Jacksonville PS before being released several weeks ago. I really wish the team would sign him to the PS. If they would have done so last year, he might just be stepping in and playing well for the team right now.

We draft too many projects from mediocre schools. We need to start drafting productive established wide receivers from well known competitive schools.
you mean like the schools Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens went to?

My guess is we see allot of Gronk out wide sucking up coverage and additional in line TE's for protection and to slip out for quick passes. So I see what you see.

Fans are understandably optimistic about recovery from injuries to their team, especially to key players. As much as we would like Edelman for the playoffs, however, nobody should be surprised if is not ready. In a study of NFL players with this injury, the average return was 9 weeks and the range was 6-14 weeks. WRs tend to be on the longer side because they place greater strain on the injury. In addition, the sooner a player returns, the greater the risk of refracture (as we all saw with Gronk and with Romo yesterday). Different decisions for Edelman and Dobson have more to do with their importance to the team than to their expected recovery times. This is no knock on Dobson because Edelman is one of the best in the game.

That average 9 week timeframe would put him back in time for the divisional round game, assuming that we get the bye, of course.

I wouldn't be remotely surprised, however, to see him held out until the AFCCG or even the SB. I don't think anyone will have the slightest clue until around Christmas time, or even the beginning of the year, as to how quickly he is or isn't progressing.

Another thing worth mentioning is that even if he does return at the 9 week mark (divisional round), he'd actually be returning at the 8 week mark since he'd obviously need to practice for at least one of the two weeks during the bye leading up to the game.

We picked the wrong year to draft wide receivers (2013). 2014 was the much better wide receiver class
I feel like if Welker had waited just one week to sign with the Rams, we might have been OK at that position. That timing was bad for every party involved.

BB had enough of Welker in the dressing room and media (most vexing in that regard since Vrabel) and given Welker's swift fall as a player I can't see what interest BB would have in him.

I had Dobson in my mock, I really wanted him to suceed. He'll be around in camp next year but he's used up four of his empty chambers so far. It started to look like he was going to get cut this year, but LaFell's injury may have saved him. Let's see if Dobson can pull a viable career as a Pats WR out. My money is off the table.

Next man up!!!!!

...oh wait... IS there a next man?

o_O
I just dusted off the cleats and am on expedia now looking up flights to Boston. I'll give it a go, guys. I can't do the deep stuff anymore, but I should be some help in the 0-5 yard range. :D

OH, and I'm pretty sure Dobson is done here in NE.

The thing Edelman had going for him though is he was the #1 or #2 punt returner in the NFL during the years he wasn't contributing as a WR.
