2016 Draft Prospect Thread

Just thought I'd add a list of a few players that pique my interest as potential propsects for the Pats. I didn't include anybody I thought would be a lock to go before the Pats will pick (hopefully at 64).

RB
Devontae Booker, Utah, 5-11 212lbs
Jordan Howard, Indiana, 6-1 230lbs
Josh Ferguson, Illinois, 5-9 195lbs

WR
Leonte Carroo, Rutgers, 6-0 205lbs
Braxton Miller, Ohio State, 6-1 215lbs
Jordan Payton, UCLA, 6-0 212lbs
DJ Foster, Arizona State, 5-10 195lbs

TE
Jake Butt, Michigan, 6-5 248lbs

OL
Kyle Murphy, Stanford, 6-7 302lbs
Jack Allen, Michigan State, 6-2 298lbs

DE
Anthony Zettel, Penn State, 6-4 278lbs
Theiren ****ran, Minnesota, 6-5, 257lbs

DT
Chris Jones, Mississippi State, 6-5 308lbs
Antwaun Woods, USC, 6-1 320lbs

LB
De'Vondre Campbell, Minnesota, 6-4 241lbs
Kris Frost, Auburn, 6-2 240lbs
Joe Schobert, Wisconsin, 6-1 236lbs
Blake Martinez, Stanford, 6-2 245lbs

CB
Cameron Sutton, Tennessee, 6-0 189lbs
Briean Boddy-Calhoun, Minnesota, 5-10 189lbs
Will Likely, Maryland, 5-7 176lbs
Desmond King, Iowa, 5-11 200lbs
Nick VanHoose, Northwestern, 5-11 190lbs

NOTES:
- Booker is my favourite prospect in this draft. He literally can do it all. My only big worry is how much he gets used at Utah. He is practically their whole offense.
- Leonte Carroo has had some off field issues this year, but if her were to fall a bit, and Bill feels those issues are in the past, this kid could be a great fit.
- Will Likely is a first round type talent in a miniature body at only 5-7. I'd consider taking a chance on him in the later rounds, at the very least is he is great returner.

Very good list. Sign me up on Braxton Miller, DJ Foster, Desmond King, Boddy-Calhoun, ****ran, Likely, Jordan Howard and Vanhoose. All have intrigued me so far and I'm sure the other on your list are equally interesting.

Jordan Lucas out of Penn state anyone?

I think he could be a good slot corner. Started at cb for 3 years, but was moved to safety this year. Got hurt a couple of weeks ago. Arm or shoulder. PSU not saying. Missed last couple of games. I'm curious about his 40 and 3-cone. Plays with confidence and some swag(as the kids say). Did get beat deep a couple of times. That's why I want to see his 40 time. Can prob get in 4th.

Do you think he will stay at safety in the nfl?

He's listed at 6'0" 199lb. Not sure he's big enough for SS, not sure he's athletic enough for FS.

Desmond King, the tough, aggressive, very instinctive Iowa CB likely will be matched up against Michigan State's talented WR Aaron Burbridge. Both lack elite speed but are able to make up for it by being big-bodied types who know how to screen the other guy.

King, from Detroit, has really blossomed into an elite player. He has had eight INTs this season. The last couple of games I think teams have stopped throwing his way. I love his loose hips and aggressive, instinctive style--he's very good in run support. He's built like Ty Law. I'd love to see King in a Patriots uniform.

How'd he slip through Michigan State's fingers?

Burbridge already had his Ali-Foreman tilt when he faced off against Michigan's CB Jourdan Lewis. It looks as though there's another one brewing Saturday night in early December. I can hardly wait!

N.B. Both teams have NFL-quality centers, Blythe for Iowa and Jack Allen for MSU. Brian, his brother, plays LG.

I like the idea of moving Stork to guard or tackle and drafting a backup to Andrews.

I think I have my two binkies already. The first is Derrick Henry. He reminds me of a stronger legaratte Blount. He can run like a deer, can block like nobodies business, and has good enough hands to attract attention. Also I think Blount is overrated when it comes to short yardage downs. He dances around to much and doesn't seem to put a big hit on many players once he gets the ball. I think if we have D. Lewis healthy next year , he and Henry could be the ultimate yin and yang combo.

My second guy I'm a pretty big fan of is Andrew Billings. He reminds me so much of Vince wilfork. He seems to be able to stuff the run and rush the passer pretty well. He is explosive and has a decent motor. I know we're pretty deep at d.tackle but if hicks or siliga walk the. We might need someone.

Now I know both players are expected to be drafted pretty high, but as of right now those two are my guys as of right now that if we were to take them I'd be completely ok with it. Also, I'm aware getting either of those two are pretty unlikely based on where we are picking but I can dream lol.

I like Henry too but he is going to get taken before 64, would you spend the pick on him if he was available at the end of the second?

1. No RBs have really grabbed me yet although it's early days.

2. I concur on Billings. I posted briefly about him last year. Could be a terror on an NFL interior D Line.

3. Closest I have to binkies right now are Braxton Miller and OKlahoma State CB Kevin Peterson. LSU WR Travin Dural is a Lafell clone too.

I like Desmond King too. He and Kevin Peterson seem like great fits for our scheme. Both physical press corners that don't shy away from the tackle in run support.

I am late to the party but I want to get in on this thread. First off, I am not a Legarette Blount fan. For a guy his size he should not dance around like he does. In my most recent scouting report I called him a bigger version of Laurence Maroney. I am looking for a guy who runs with conviction. I think the Patriots could replace Blount and White in the draft this year.
The other 2 positions that I will be focusing on in this draft season is OT and CB and another sneaky position they might target is TE.

Blount is much better than Maroney, but he has never really shown that he can consistently be a primary back and that's obviously what is hurting the Patriots here. There is nothing wrong with Blount's type of running, the issue is that his style is much better when you have a complementary running back like they had at the beginning of the year with Lewis. Or even when it was Ridley and Blount running in 2013

I agree about TE, I think the value lines up pretty well with us having our first pick in the late 2nd round. We could be looking at the 2nd or 3rd best TE against the 10th or so best CB or DL. Once again I'll make the case for WR too. Would like to see a Dobson replacement that could also replace LaFell in the medium term.

yep, I keep coming back to this position for the Pats. It just makes too much sense, especially after the scare we had the other night with Gronk. I hate feeling like our season rides and falls on any non-qb position, but thats where have been for 4 seasons with Gronk.

As an intro for those looking, there are 4 TE's grouped pretty closely together. They more separate each other depending on what you are looking for

Butt
henry
Howard
Engram

There is a good chance 2 of these guys are still around, and I would imagine its Butt and Engram, at least if I were making the selections. Henry just doesnt do anything poorly and plays in the NFL offense already. Howard has the highest ceiling of the bunch with great athleticsm and size, but hasnt been utilized as many envisioned. Butt is probably a touch slow, or at least always looks like hes working too hard to move quickly, but hes very reliable and is used. Engram, well, he blocks worse than most of our receivers. He also has unreal skill level and athleticsm. So if you are looking for a strictly move TE, he might be your guy.

I think Howard is our pick if he is there come draft day, but I am guessing he burns up mock drafts after the combine, hes just that impressive physically, and Bama has never done a particularly great job with skill guys.

Good post.

One name I'd add although he's only a RS Soph is Virginia Tech's Bucky Hodges. 6'7" and 241lbs and plays both TE and some WR. Fast athletic guy. I think he's a type that could declare and his mismatch ability is worth consideration.

You are most likely right. I didnt add Hodges or Austin Hooper because they were red shirt sophomore, but they could both easily come out. Hodges is an absolute freak, who is mostly a gigantic receiver, in the jimmy graham mold. His rout running isnt exceptional and he doesnt use his size as effectively as he could, but the package is mesmerizing.

I think Hooper could be a star. Hes also a newer tight end, but clearly made for the position. Long arms, athletic build, good blocker and great size. I would say him and Henry project as the safest bets to reach their potential, and its a pretty high potential.

I doubt Hooper comes out being a sophomore at Stanford, but he would be a phenomenal addition.

I haven't seen Hooper but Pauline thinks he might come out, as he does Hodges. Could be a potentially very good TE class if they do.

If they both come out, I think Hodges becomes the Funchess of this draft class, with Hooper and Henry both being fringe first rounders.

The spots I am looking the most at are 3rd LB, 3rd CB, RB, OT.

I have yet to find a binky which at this point is an indicator to me that this is not going to likely be a good year.
