in a lot of places around the world we use tech to validate and verify where things are and what they are doing at any given time. Take for example running, rfid tagging is used to validate runners, time, location, same for cycling, motocross, car racing, and other sports, skiing etc.

Why not use some tech in NFL games.

As an example use some form of rfid strips end to end imbedded in a football for example, you would always know where it was, did it cross out of bounds, cross an endzone etc etc. you could even use this in uniforms, shoes etc. I don't know all the ways it could be used but I know that this type of tech exists and is used in many ways commercially to determine the status of "something"

These days in the NFL it seems we often question a play due to human error, seems to make sense to fix it.

Then again I guess if the NFL can't figure out how to make headsets work maybe they are doomed. I Can figure out how to make a helmet to helmet communications work 50 miles out in the open desert....just saying.

It is so strange that they don't want to embrace technology or BB's suggestion of having the ability to challenge anything with your two challenges. Not like the refs will lose their part time job. Just have people watching replays and communicating with the officials to correct mistakes.
It seems they relish the discussions that follows after every game. The rumored coaches who were against BB's suggestions and at such did not back him may be regretting that decision because there is direct causality of loses to bad decision in many games this year.

Robot commissioner to enforce the rules fairly.

I don't know, the Lions use of the Jim Caldwell bot hasn't been a big success.

Robot commissioner brought this joke but we can easily be distracted. Still it is funny and where else you gonna put it?

Back on topic, for , what $9.95 a crew they can go to home depot and get laser distance measuring thingys and stop relying on chains like it is the '20s or something. Seriously, who professionally measures by chains today?

God it make no sense, I bet the response would be they want the human element yet year after year they ignore the fact that game deciding mistakes are happening at a rapid rate and increasing each year.

Think if you knew where the ball was at all times, I bet the game would be cut short by 15-30 minutes. Well then they wouldn't be able to give us 9 million commercials....don't get me started on that.

Like someone else said "integrity", guess they can't decide when to have integrity and when not to.

There was an article either last year or just before talking about the use of a real laser lit line that would run beneath the field that still hasn't come to fruition yet. Haven't seen any articles about it in quite a while now that I think about it...

This is a league that didn't even know that air pressure decreases in cold weather, but you think they can competently established technology into the equipment and fields? Ugh....... I wish I had that much faith in them.....

I asked the commissioner about the use of lasers. He's...

...considering it. o_O

It could be done, but I think we need to understand how difficult it is. The first few years would likely be a train wreck before it got better.

Some things are just impractical. The down point would have to be relayed to the refs fast enough to run no huddle.

You can collect a ton of information, but can you get it to the refs fast enough? I think you can, but there will be a learning curve. If you're willing to accept things getting worse before they are better it's probably a good thing. They should get the CFL to try it and work the bugs out first or something like that.

It makes too much sense and ruins the nostalgia for some old people or something.

That is probably the exact reason certain things aren't implemented. How can you break for commercial on a challenge on the spot of the ball if you already know instantly.

You want tech in the hands of current management? I can just see the gyroscopic implant in the football ripping it out of the hands of the Patriots on the goal line on cue.

This is a league that refuses to check the PSI of all footballs during all games and log them so they can really find out the effect of climate and use during an NFL Game..

Maybe they do not want to find out the truth after all??? Maybe they are content with the lies they have been fed... the NFL cannot expect integrity in the game if there is no integrity on Posh Park Avenue.

So you are saying we have to kill older fans. :) "Because Integrity, your honor."

Accelerometers (like in our phones)- hell stick a whole phone in their helmet. You could monitor speed, position etc. you would also get realtime data on head impacts. The impact of helmet to helmet vs normal tackle vs whiplash to the turf. But they don't want to know that info.

I didn't even think of that, that's a good idea, to know about helmet to helmet hits just put in a device that records and monitors the helmet...great idea.

But your right I don't think they want to know.

The worst part is the fact they've agreed to do "random" measurements but not release the results publicly. That goes to show you that they don't really know what to expect and definitely aren't excited about letting everyone know they might actually be wrong.

I'd guess a helmet to helmet at full speed is pretty similar to a QB cranking his head on the turf (which is actually cement).
