Injury Update: Dobson's X-rays give good news

Hmm I had no idea Boyce was a FA. I thought he was IR'd.

I wonder if they bring him back for a little while since he knows the playbook.

Perhaps use him out the backfield?

When I saw the feed I wanted to :D is anybody here in their right minds counting on Dropson?? So if we do the Math Edelman would be likely ready before Dropson gets the all clear. Good thing we are not depending on him...I think we'll know what we have in Harper by then and the board will be saying Dobson who? His ship has already sailed and it was a bumpy ride..IR his @ss!

Can't DISLIKE this attitude enough, honestly.

Same attitude I saw regarding Amenedola last year.
Same attitude offered toward T Wilson, who had a really good game the other night.

I'll let the coaching staff determine who should be on the 53, and root for all 53 (and the 10 on the PS, for that matter).

Doesn't mean I don't like UPGRADES. Go ahead, show me one available.

That said, if needed, I would like to see Boyce brought back, as he's the ONLY ONE available who we know at least knows the routes and has worked with Brady before.

And yes, I'd also love to see Pierre Thomas brought in, if he's got something left, but we've actually got redundancy in positions other than WR to make room.

(Knock, knock, knock)

"Hey man, it's Dave. I've got the ankles, man. Open the door."
Reminds me of a late night at our local airport some years back. True story. Several airplanes on the ramp, pilots waiting in the lobby. Ambulance pulls up, EMT comes in carrying a picnic cooler and announces "I've got the lungs!"

Organ harvest teams were in town to part out an accident victim. Macabre but interesting.

OK everyone, let's stick to the Dobson topic without going off topic into the gender war at this point. Thanks!
Cat fight!

Now hold on a second there. Let's give some credit when credit is due. The training staff's notorious poor conditioning also gets some of the credit for too much fragility/injury.

Please tell me you are being sarcastic with this..

The way I see it, there are three core attributes in play:

1. Has the requisite athleticism to succeed in the NFL
2. Has the requisite technical skill to succeed in the NFL
3. Knows the offense

Anyone who meets all three criteria is either unavailable or already on the team. So at this point if you're bringing someone in you're getting 2 out of 3 at best, ideally getting 1 and 2 and hoping that 3 will come along quickly. With Boyce, you're getting 1 and 3 and hoping he can improve to a passable level on 2. Neither's an attractive option at this point in the season, but I don't see anyone out there that I'd prefer to bringing Boyce on board and waiting/hoping for Martin to get healthy.

I am into extreme sports and have multiple fractures to show for it. Dobson's reaction gave me the impression that it was a broken bone or Achilles completely thorn. They carried him like they carried Suggs and Steve Smith.

This is such a BS statement. He was having trouble putting weight on it.. But he DID put weight on it.. It's not like they brought the cart out for him.. FFS..

three reasons:

1) the team is very banged up right now, which means those 7 gameday inactive spots are at a bit of a premium. The Pats only had two healthy scratches this week (Siliga, Flowers), and and suffered another rash of injuries on Monday night. The rest were all injured inactives, we're just running out of space at this point.
2) two of those 7 spots are already being used on WRs (Edelman, Martin), and at least one is being used long-term for probably the remainder of the regular season.
3) Dobson isn't very good anyway. He's 5th on the WR depth chart, and shouldn't be too hard to replace.

If Martin's back this week, you can maybe justify giving 'his' spot to Dobson, but even then I'm not sure it would be a smart allocation of a limited resource, since we need receivers now. If he was good or only out short-term I'd have an easier time justifying it, but when you're both bad and out longish-term, that's not a good recipe for keeping your roster spot.

I agree that Martin figures into things big time, I'm really intrigued to see what he can do in Edelman's absence. Athletically, he's pretty similar to Amendola. Obviously there's a lot more that goes into being an Amendola-caliber receiver than measurables, but if he can get healthy and get even 80% of the way there, that's a usable asset while our better players get healthy, and nice depth after.

Edelman, Amendola, LaFell. That is who is ahead of Dobson. If you think that Martin is ahead of Dobson you're crazy.. Martin was seeing snaps because of his special teams play.. Nothing more..

It takes time to learn this offense. Outside of Randy Moss, Austin Collie and Jonathan Krause, there isn't anyone likely coming through the door to help out..

EDIT: While Collie knows the offense, he is unable to sign with the Patriots even if he was let out of his CFL contract due to Article 20, Sec 1 "CFL Rule".

Not sure where you get that Boyce is available. He's on the Pats IR..

Randy Moss, Austin Collie and Jonathan Krause are the ones who have some familiarity with the system. Possibly Greg Salas as well (just thought of him). Moss definitely still has the athleticism and technical skill to succeed.. Whether or not the Pats would dip into that well is a different story..

All due respect but at this moment we have no earthy idea if Rand is ready for NFL action.

Dr Gill misdiagnosing his foot in his rookie year leading to him playing with a broken foot has ruined Dobson. It's hardly a surprise the Pats binned Gill that off-season.

Any source that Gill actually really screwed that up or is this just part of the normal claims where everything that went wrong in last few years (Dobson, Gronk...) was immediately his inadequate treatment ?

They carted the guy off the field from the sidelines. Call it BS. The guy is soft and that opinion has nothing to do with this injury which happens to be legit. I have landed on one leg from rock climbing and was diagnosed with high ankle sprain and it hurt. No question about that. However, I concluded this man was soft from one play actually. There was this game where he caught a ball and before he could get on the ground a DB wrestled the ball from his hands for an INT.
I will recommend he employs Steve Smith or even Edelman to teach him the type of toughness required at this level.

How is this even debatable? Martin in about two weeks was getting more snaps in a game he and Dobson were both active. Don't come with that BS that he was getting snaps because of special teams? How stupid is that logic? He is getting snaps on offense because of special teams? Really? I normally respect people but when you respond with insults, I will respond in kind.

ive said this on so many occasions before, but i have a feeling this will be the alst time, one way or another:

it's going to be hilarious if Dobson comes back next week or a couple of weeks while Danny is a bit hobbled and Julian is still out and produce like we've never seen him produce

what a tough break for him (and i dont think any other two words have been used together on this board quite as often as "dobson" and "tough break" in the past 3 years)

Better than hilarious, it would be like one of those animations of a miracle in Cecil B DeMilles movie of the Bible.

What insult? That your statement was BS? That's not an insult. That's fact.

Lots of info on the sad sory of the whole thing below. Seems as if the Pats medical staff screwed this situation up terribly. Not the kid's fault.:

He had a bad foot injury early in the 2013 season that kept him out until week 17 when they rushed him back and he immediately made a play and limped off with a strees fracture. I was at that game in the 300's and everyone in the section started screaming about why the hell were they rushing him back in. He had been moving gingerly even before the play. It was patently obvious he wasn't full bore.

Bringing moss for a workout wouldn't hurt. He doesn't have to be a deep threat. Just move the chains.

This is reason 1A why the possibility of Edelman rushing back kinda terrifies me. Very different types of players, but foot injuries in general are the worst, and I'm always a proponent of erring on the side of caution with them.

Luckily the current medical staff is not the same as the one that screwed the pooch with Dobson, and hopefully this staff will be better about recognizing if he is or is not ready to go.
