Injury Update: Dobson's X-rays give good news

Yikes, that's what I feared after the x-ray came back okay. Based on the typical recovery timeline, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they just IR him and sign a replacement WR.

Why? I rather have him available for the playoffs just in case. I hope keyshawn martin comes back

I think thats the right move. Get the best 3rd down RB out there. The guy from SF seemed the best of the lot

Patriots have LaFell and Harper as the only uninjured WR. Amendola will play, but he's got that tweaked knee. And who knows what the status of Martin is. Like ankles, hamstring issues can linger for awhile..

It would be nice if the Pats signed a WR to the practice squad, but they may go with what they have and just use more TEs if they lose someone else..

The "guy from SF" you are thinking of is Kendall Hunter..

When I saw the feed I wanted to :D is anybody here in their right minds counting on Dropson?? So if we do the Math Edelman would be likely ready before Dropson gets the all clear. Good thing we are not depending on him...I think we'll know what we have in Harper by then and the board will be saying Dobson who? His ship has already sailed and it was a bumpy ride..IR his @ss!

No need to be a jerk about it. Yes he has been a disappointment...unable to be on the field has rendered him unable progress into a productive receiver for us. I don't think he is on the team next season either.

However when he injured his foot it wasn't his fault that it wasn't treated properly and he was rushed back to action which made it worse. As for the high ankle sprain...could have happened to anyone. No need to rag on the kid for that.

He's had some really really bad luck with injuries...I wish him the best if he indeed isn't a Patriot next year.

Dobson made a fantastic catch over the middle on the play where he was hurt by the defender twisting his ankle. People like yourself overlook that. Just like you over-look that Dobson made the one catch he legitimately had a chance at last week. The 4 yard reception along the sideline..

As for Harper, we'll see what happens.. He wasn't getting open. The one catch he had (that was called back) was in traffic. It was a good catch, but otherwise, he wasn't getting it done..

It is an interesting dilemma. I have been thinking this way as well, mainly because bringing in someone new will take weeks at best to get up to speed, and Amendola, Dobson and Edelmen will be returning as known quantities. I assume there is nobody out there they feel is better than Dobson, or he would already be on team. If a new guy isn't going to give you anything in the near term anyway, sign a guy to the PS for depth and go with what you have until the injured return.

Dobson has 13 catches all season.
Dobson has 16 catches over the past 2 seasons.
Dobson has 53 career catches.

You can bring someone in to replace that.

three reasons:

1) the team is very banged up right now, which means those 7 gameday inactive spots are at a bit of a premium. The Pats only had two healthy scratches this week (Siliga, Flowers), and and suffered another rash of injuries on Monday night. The rest were all injured inactives, we're just running out of space at this point.
2) two of those 7 spots are already being used on WRs (Edelman, Martin), and at least one is being used long-term for probably the remainder of the regular season.
3) Dobson isn't very good anyway. He's 5th on the WR depth chart, and shouldn't be too hard to replace.

If Martin's back this week, you can maybe justify giving 'his' spot to Dobson, but even then I'm not sure it would be a smart allocation of a limited resource, since we need receivers now. If he was good or only out short-term I'd have an easier time justifying it, but when you're both bad and out longish-term, that's not a good recipe for keeping your roster spot.

I agree that Martin figures into things big time, I'm really intrigued to see what he can do in Edelman's absence. Athletically, he's pretty similar to Amendola. Obviously there's a lot more that goes into being an Amendola-caliber receiver than measurables, but if he can get healthy and get even 80% of the way there, that's a usable asset while our better players get healthy, and nice depth after.

Is Reggie Wayne still out there?

He is, but I'd be surprised if the Pats were looking at him. He already pocketed the money and quit on us once, and we don't have much reason to believe he could help us anyway. He's been out of the game for over a year, he's old, and he's never operated in an offense that demanded any kind of complex reads out of its WRs. Even if he'd been here all along learning the offense, I think he'd only be getting comfortable with the offense right around now. At this point, gotta figure it's just too late mentally even if he has something to offer physically.

All of these ancient veterans that are out there are FAs for a reason. I'd rather have Boyce than any of them, and Boyce sucks.
