Rams receiver Stedman Bailey was shot Tuesday evening in Miami....

UPDATE 12:28 a.m. ET: Mike Silver of NFL.com reports that Bailey suffered a head wound that is not considered to be life threatening. Per Silver, Bailey is scheduled to undergo surgery in the morning.

Source: Stedman Bailey has been shot

Prayers to him and to his family

Well damn, that's ****ed up. Shot twice in the head while sitting in a car in Miami according to Rapoport.

Hoping for a full recovery.

Glad that it isnt life threatening but since when has 2 head shots not mean instant death? Sounds like a miracle.

Glad he survived, hope he recovers.

It's 50/50 a lot of the time. Bullets do crazy things when they hit hard objects. Luckily for him he is alive and can hopefully live a healthy life.

Stedman Bailey will have surgery tomorrow. The driver was shot many times, shielding the kids from bullets. His wounds are life threatening

Very thankful for his sakes he's okay to this point. Getting shot in the head normally does not sound like it would lead to a good result..

I think it's safe to say that the majority of head shots are usually life threatening, but as @deters points out, it depends on certain variables such as proximity of the shooter, caliber of the weapon used, and outright luck.

I actually knew a guy who used to drive a taxi cab and was robbed. The shooter was quick on the draw and shot him before he even had time to cough up the money, but the weapon was a little .22 and he survived--even at close range. He literally has a space near his temple where you could fit your finger into. It's very noticeable. He's also a bit slower mentally, so he didn't fully recover 100 percent.

Crazy stuff hope he's okay.

Agreed. Thankfully it's not life threatening. I wonder hat happened.

He's not a high stat WR, so it probably has nothing to do with this case, but with the billions being bet each week on personal stats for individual players in those Fantasy "Skill not Gambling" websites ( ), it's only a matter of time before this kind of thing occurs to players who are "disappointing" their gamblers.

The players are going to need more security. I don't think the NFL or NFLPA thought this one out.

Wow. Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery. I'll be the first to admit that anatomy is not my strongsuit. That would be business. But I've never understood how someone could get shot in the head and not die. Hopefully he doesn't have any lingering effects, going forward.

The other car just pulled up right along side and started to fire.....

Wrong place. Wrong time.

I know for a fact that the shooter was not Arron Hernandez (not trying to be disrespectful)
