with jules out and now maybe danny, the OL has to protect brady better..I know, stating the obviouse here.
If Brady has more time, he can be effective without his top weapons....but constant pressure without those weapons and it's not going to be pretty...

The problem, of course, is that having no receivers is exactly what creates pressure on the OL. I think that was every bit as big an issue as the protection per se last night.

Missing Lewis + Edelman + Amendola + Dobson + Martin, and with Gronk looking sick and far from full strength, nobody was getting open. There seemed to be a LOT of plays where Brady had enough time for a typical Brady pass, but ended up throwing it away.

I like what little I saw from Harper, at least. I think he needs a couple of weeks of practice with Brady, but he could make some plays soon. He's got outstanding hands. If Martin can get back, I think the Pats are capable of beating Denver with LaFell-Martin-Harper at WR. Will probably be forced to go run/TE heavy, though.

In the 15 years of watching him, I don't think I've ever seen TB throw the ball in the ground as often as he did last night.

@JumboHart: Hypothetically if you told me Tavon Wilson had to be #Patriots nickel back I'd think big trouble. Nope. Great game for No. 1 points D. Wow.

We may have found a nickel CB last night.

As for the Bills defense, I was wondering if they weren't using a system that allowed them to change the defense or the rush based off of the calls that Brady made about the mike on each play. They seemed to be guessing right much more than they were guessing wrong.

I was wondering the same thing. Pretty clever if so.

What an ugly, ugly game, but a W in the end.

-Gronk was very un-Gronk like. His hands were off as he dropped a couple and bobbled another.
-Cannon's worst game. OL in general was a dumpster fire. Brady can't get hit 10 times a game.
-Brady's INT was terrible. Could have put the game away with a score on that drive.
-D played well overall. Wished they completed some sacks as they had Taylor in their hands, but credit Taylor for breaking free and making plays.
-Butler is a #1 CB, no questions, shut out Watkins in the first half.
-GET WELL DANNY!!!!

The DL rotation really paid dividends in the 4th quarter. Sheard was beastly coming down the stretch.

Wilson and Mayo...we needed that. Great game by both.

I'd love to be able to find the post because I'd pat myself on the back so hard that I'd break my spine, but I floated the idea of trying Wilson at CB in the 2012 preseason. Then again, I also called for Hightower to be moved to DE in the 2014 preseason so I'm not altogether sure if I know what the **** I'm talking about just yet. ;)

The red seats belong to people who have ($$$) "club" tickets. That means they have access to the big glassed-in lounge area immediately behind those red seats. Those people often abandon their seats and hang out inside. Many of them are also the kind of ticketholder who won't make much noise even when they are outside.

Finally, the stadium is designed horribly for directing noise onto the field. And our greedy owner throwing out 1500 long-time season ticket holders to make an endzone lounge doesn't help things, either.
ah, thanks!

Bi9lls fans complaining about the refs....**** off. Sore losers http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?522155-loosing-fairly-is-one-thing

seems hypocritical based on some of the posts in this very forum........ and your team won so....... I thought there was some concurrence that the officiating was less than. one teams page rants about how it was affected and another rants about how it was affected. why blast them/us for our position, do you see me going over there and blasting pats forum for doing the exact same thing even though your team won?

no.

edit: also, read all the posts, there's a good chunk of us in there who think the officiating was bad not just bad for buffalo but it's easy to take the topic label and misconstrue what is actually being discussed versus what the O.P. intended. Not everyone or even most people are ignorant to the fact both teams were affected. The same thing happened here today, people complained about the Pats getting jobbed but a lot of people agree the bills got jobbed, it's quite similar/parallel.

Draws on 3rd a 7 were also telling. There was no one to throw to. Of course, the Bills had 8 men in coverage. We should have been able to run the ball for big chunks of yardage. And then, there is the play of the OL.

IMHO, the DL rotation was critical all game, as it usually is. We have an awesome rotation at DE and at DT. Our DL is so good, that we bring in our #1 draft choices in the sub package as inside pass rushers.

We do need Collins back. :)

Rule 7 Section 4 Article 1 e: An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended...when a runner is out of bounds, or declares himself down by falling to the ground, or kneeling, and making no effort to advance"

Rule text and numbering here are wrong currently. The rule you are alluding to is Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1(d)(1). I quote the right wording, same effect here though, in the thread about this play.

Reactions

Brady struggled - but he was making amazing throws with no time. That first first-down to Amendola was incredible. He had a defender on him in a second and made the right throw. He had terrible protection. Ryan did a great job of confusing the offensive line, and making 11 guys (or sometimes 10, sometimes 12) seem like 15.

Blount is pedestrian. He is not going to make yardage on his own.
White, when he was on the field, did better. He at least makes the first guy miss. Maybe not the fifth guy, like we were used to. But of the three current backs, he seems to offer the most upside.

Wide receiver depth has been an issue; with one injury it's a problem; with two it's a crisis. Imagine a single injury to a corner.

This offensive line has played poorly. I guess Belichick answered the question on who his choice at LT is. While most of us prefer Solder, anytime Cannon has been available, he has played LT. Poorly. I guess it's good that Andrews got a break. Too many penalties on the line. WAY too many QB hits allowed. Both physical and mental mistakes and breakdowns. I guess the one benefit of running Blount into the defensive line for no gain a dozen times is it does open up the fourth quarter play action pass.

Yes, Gronk's worst game this year. But Buffalo pretty much said: we will take Gronk out. Beat us some other way. They did, and we did.

Really good game from the defensive line. Really held Taylor in the pocket. Stopped the short-yardage we-know-you-know-we're-running plays. A couple pretty important sacks. Good pressure from the three-man rush when dropping into coverage. Brown and Hicks keep improving. Siliga is becoming the odd man out.

Great to see Mayo playing well. It's been over a year since we've seen that spark from him. This defense, when healthy, can make it through the playoffs. Collins-Hightower-Mayo could be as good as we hoped in the offseason. One of the most positive outcomes of the game was Mayo's performance.

Tavon Wilson and Patrick Chung covering slot receivers consistently is scary. Any high school offensive coordinator can design plays to pick on that spot. Amazing that this team is holding its breathe on an undrafted rookie's return to health.

Another impressive game from Butler and Ryan. Was Watkins a healthy scratch that I missed?

OK, on the officiating. These games are hard to watch. I think the NFL needs to work with the officials' union, with an open mind, to find a resolution. While I watch the games live with a bias, and only see the blown calls that affect the Patriots, the next day I can recognize the equally-egregious calls that hurt the other team. The best you can hope for is unbiased incompetence. The Bills suffered from several pass interference calls that were missed. That whole inadvertent whistle thing is UN-EX-CUSE-A-BLE. That officiating team should never work again. From the Pats side, they stole an obvious touchdown and caused Gostkowkski to miss his shot. From the Bills side, the corner gave up on the play, the whistle was clearly before the receiver had possession, and they screwed up the decision to award the catch. 15 yards on a coach walking along his own sideline, seriously? They blew the last play - Buffalo should have had the ball with two seconds on their own side of the field for a hail Mary. Add this to the blown batted ball, the blown false start. Just an unacceptable number of games determined by officiating errors. I don't know whether it is training, or full-time status, or performance-enhancing drug requirements for officials, or central oversight from a bunker in New York, but when the commentators and all the fans instantly know the officials made critical mistakes, it is something that can be corrected. I hesitate to use a phrase that has been equally abused by Andy Dalton and Roger Goodell. But come on guys.

The Bills front 4 is ridiculously good. Mix that in with Rex Ryan defensive brilliance and add a splash of injuries and inexperience on the offensive line and you get a ton of hits on Brady. I am not sure why people are surprised that the Bills gave the Patriots such a hard time. It is like you are living in a fantasy realm where the Patriots offense, with backup OL and missing their most dynamic weapons should go out and beat the snot out of every team.

so you expected that inept OL play last night?

Pretty much.

You should have called Belichick or McD. Sounds like you had it figured out lol

I mean, you saw that Andrews benching from a mile away right? Because he's played so poorly all year!
