Seems like this team would really benefit from a bye week in the 2nd half of the season, but I'm not gonna complain or say the NFL set this up giving us that very early bye (well maybe they did) because in the past few years we have been blessed with the bye week in the right moments, later in the season.

But what could Bill do to manage things, guys banged up, offense needing to work on different plays because the picture has changed drastically, etc...we are already with 2 guys injured (Collins, Edelman) that we can't free up the spot, so the group is already short and may become shorter. I know HFA is huge but with the division almost clinched I think BB may need to think in some sort of damage control even if that puts the best record in jeopardy, it doesn't add up getting to the playoffs with the team falling into pieces. I know it's never going to happen but hypothetically, if the next game were not against Denver, I would even think about giving Brady a rest after the beating he took yesterday and against the giant.

Well the train cannot stop, there's no byes until the playoffs and we gotta play, different from other sports we can't field a team full of reserves because some positions are thin and the backups are already playing, but maybe a rotation, Idk. Before Edelman break his foot I felt he was a little lessened and would be a candidate for a rest, in the end he was forced to, unfortunately. I know this usually takes place in week 16 or 17, but I don't like the team going rust into the playoffs, I would rather do it earlier and hit the foot in the gas in the end of the regular season.

Hoping for good news regarding Dobson and Amendola, otherwise it's officially 2013 all over again.

But lets say Pats wins in Denver - Then they could create a "bye week" vs Eagles and only play guys whos ready, simply rest those who needs so. If they loose then so be it. Eagleas are a NFC team and IF they do this, Brady and Gronk sits aswell.

Donno if any have done something like this before ?

I was thinking about the iggle game too, they are garbage and not in the conference, doesn't look like they will make the playoffs.

Interesting thought. I think it would be funny if BB pulled a Popovich and just rested his key players for a game to keep them healthy. Start Jimmy G, sign Jonas Gray and let him carry the ball 35+ times and release him on the Tuesday after the game.

Bye weeks really outta start later. Don't they have plenty of games to play even if more teams take time off per week?

Seriously, I would be 100% fine with playing it like a Preseason Week 4, taking the loss and resting up for the stretch run. We would need to lose 2 more to not get a bye, we'd be fine.

Obviously won't happen but I would definitely hold out the questionable guys.

Along those lines let me ask a stupid question.

What would the NFL* do if the Pats told them "We are forfeiting the game. Due to our current injury situation we are not even going to fly to Denver. We are going to stay home and heal up, and prepare for the next opponent."

Pro football is such a brutal physical game, and I 'd like to see some changes made to accommodate this reality, even if it costs them some profits.

Larger roster with the practice squad players being active each week, and more flexibility with IR'd players being able to return to action again the same season would be a good start.

I would guess fine/suspend BB and take draft picks.

OK, how about if someone other than the Pats did it?

I know there'd be hell to pay with gambling and fantasy football and all.

I'm really pushing the angle that the league needs to do something about being more accommodating regarding player health and stop squeezing every last dollar and do something that will help with the attrition, while putting a better product on the field.

Hell, the much less physical MLB has short term disabled lists and much less severe injuries.

When is the last time an NFL* player missed a game for back spasms?

Maybe we can hope for 2003 all over again with this D, at least for the Foxboro playoff games? Those were 17-14 and 24-14 wins. We could do it to Denver.. But both Cinci or Pitt putting up more than 14...

Ofc Pats have to play the game - But NFL is business more then a sport really, so at the end its Patriots who decide whos plays and who isnt. They wont be able to do anything other then saying something about "fair play" and "sportsmanship", and tbh its not words I use about NFL anyway :D

The patriots SHOULD sit any players who need time to recover, a long list. But Belichick won't sit Brady.
For example, my guess is that Gronk shouldn't have played last night.

Two issues here:

(1) You have better odds of getting a night with Gisele than of convincing a healthy Brady to not start a game.

(2) When a player is signed off another team's PS, IIRC that player has to be kept on the 53 for three weeks.

on any other season the bye week during the eagles game might have worked. this year however, the Pats, and especially Brady, are on a FU tour. If you asked Brady, no way he sitting any games.

Didn't realize MIA resigned him to their PS. I don't follow the NFL as closely as I used to anymore.

For Belichick is business as usual, there is no such thing as a FU tour in his mindset I believe, and to be honest I dropped that too a few weeks ago, I want them to win the SB and then Brady can get the mic and say the biggest FU in the history of mankind and I bet he has a black list of names.

The guys on the field try to win and all, but I'd favor this if we had two games to give for the Texans game. No, it affecting the Colts has no effect on my thinking. :) Why do you ask?

(No, I'm not serious, or I'm only semi-serious.)

Sorry did you timetravel or something and write a post you meant to write in 5 weeks?
