He is improving every week. Yes he did get burned today, but he has been playing his ass off....he just needs to start turning his head more and look for the balls or a PI can be called.

Watkins was a non factor for the most part. Tough matchup with sanders but brown's not afraid of anything. He won't back down. People won't say it but revis helped this guy alot in studying wrs on tape

I didnt see Butler get burned at all. He eliminated Watkins the whole game.

Really starting to feel more comfortable with Ryan as the CB2, as well. He's officially winning me over week by week.

@jeffphowe: I've got a very important announcement. Malcolm Butler did a better job on Sammy Watkins than Darrelle Revis did a week ago.

He's now taken Landry, Jackson, Beckham, and Watkins out of the game.

Is this a fair ranking of the CB1s in the BB era?

1. 2014 Revis
2. early 2000s Law
3. 2015 Butler
4. 2006-2007 Samuel
5. 2013 Talib

2008 Hobbs, 2009 Bodden, 2010 McCourty (zone corner), 2011 Arrington are the rest

Butler's a stud, and maybe besides Peterson & Norman how many other CBs can you definitely say are better than him? Haden, Grimes, Sherman, and Revis have all fallen off.

I could probably make strong cases for early 2000's Law and 2014 Revis at 1 as well as flip flopping Talib and Samuel but hard to knock that list either way.

With Eli you have a guy that gets the ball out quick, and Taylor can extend some plays. Different QBs but I thought the secondary played well against both.

I don't know where to rank them, but they're doing better than I expected so far.

So can we then say that BB made a mistake in trying to sign Revis to CB1 money when we already had a serviceable CB1?

Actually, nvm, can never have too many good corners.

Didn't he also get flagged for PI?

Yes, though that was primarily because the throw was so goddam awful. A better throw and Butler plays his trail technique and knocks away the ball. Instead, the pass took so long to get there and was so underthrown that it was near impossible to not eventually run into the guy.

Butler actually matched up against Sanders last season when Revis, Dennard, and Ryan all had trouble hanging with him. He played well, had a big pass breakup on a deep ball.

1. Law 01-03
2. Revis 2014
3. Asante 06-07
4. Malcolm
5. Bodden 2009

I was going to suggest the same.

I think people are under rating Talib.

In the first half of the 2013 season he was arguably the league defensive MVP.
No love for Talib?

My bad. I went into total recall mode with Bodden's 09 I forgot about Talib.

As much as I love Malcolm, I can't put him ahead of Talib....

Ty- His prime was better than Revis 2014
Revis- Played great despite what some on this board say.
Talib- He played great here too.
Asante- He'd be ahead of Talib if he tackled better.
Malcolm- Rising FAST

Honorable Mention: Bodden 09....people forget how damn good he was. BB gives him a fat contract and blows out his rotator cuff. Malcolm gets the nod b/c he is more sticky.

Talib was the best CB in the NFL the first quarter or so of the season. He shutdown Julio Jones and held Jimmy Graham catchless.

Then he got smoked by Josh Gordon, punk'd by Steve Smith, and beat by Ty Hilton.

He's a great CB but he's never returned to that amazing early 2013 form.

I guess I am one of the few who believes that Revis did not have a dominant season in 2014. To me, it seemed that Revis performed exceptionally well when the Pats didn't need him and he often have up the big play when they did need him.

I think Watkins in a top receiver in terms of a #1 with talent. I think his lack of production has a lot to do with the Bills offense, but I understand the critique.
Watkins has been nothing like a #1 wr in the nfl yet
