It should be noted that in August, Blandino, the NFL's vice president of officiating, was plastered all over TMZ as he exited a party bus owned by, you guessed it, the Dallas Cowboys...

"There was a very strong feeling," says former Colts president Bill Polian, now an ESPN analyst, "that it was necessary for someone with really good communication skills to be out there every week refuting a lot of the conspiracy theories and a lot of the incorrect application of the rules that go on on a regular basis now in today's society."

So that's Blandino's job, along with a number of other stressful duties that encompass 80-hour work weeks during football season. He seems so different than many of his colleagues who toil away at 345 Park Avenue in Manhattan. He is one of the most influential men in the No Fun League, yet Blandino has a diverse background that includes being a stand-up comedian. He is in charge of 17 officiating crews, yet he's never reffed a game in his life.

Former stand-up comedian keeps NFL refs in check

He's a joke and so are his referees.

Explains 2 things really well
  1. Why he is always able to stand up and deliver some of the cluster-!@&$ calls. Skill of delivery and abject loyalty to the NFL*
  2. The officiating is imbalance and confused at times (quality seems way down on big calls). Perhaps inconsistent might be the better term

Can't believe Roger and his henchman passed on Costanza and chose Blandino.
"If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right."

He also went to Hofstra and was a NYJ training camp rumswap fanboy.

Another under-qualified nincompoop.

I wonder the officials took Blandino's appointment. Imagine if someone was made your boss who had never done your job. They can still have great managerial skills and learn what they need to know, but there's always going to be a question since they never "did the job."

I had to smile at Polian complaining about conspiracy theories. That's rich coming from a guy who used the competition committee to try and find evidence of "cheating" by the Patriots as soon as the team began winning 14 years ago. Everyone else's conspiracy theories are bad, but his conspiracy theories have merit and need to be acted on.

Somehow, it just seems appropriate. Everything they do makes them a laughing stock, so who better to handle it than a comedian?

It's not a lie if you believe it.
