Patriots have the #1 defense (PPG) in the NFL

Points defense is a little exaggerated because offense and STs rarely give them bad field position. Tonight's missed FG was one of the few exceptions.

Still, it's an impressive achievement!

I agree to a point. They probably aren't the best defense in the NFL for those reasons, but the Pats have had some really good offenses and special teams over the years and since the Dynasty years they have rarely led the league in scoring defense.

Plan for Denver i would let Butler take Sanders out of the game.
Allow Ryan to follow Thomas with safety help.
Throw alot of exotic looks at Osweiler all kinds of blitzes.

He can throw but get him to guess wrong and capititalize thinking we need 3 ints to win that style of game.

On offense Denver is very fast on D so that renders running only power plays Blount and mis direction tosses. As far as the passing game who will we have on offense?
We need to get the timing routes going to a tee.

Sanders might not play. It was announced today that he is nursing the dreaded high ankle sprain.

Emmanuel Sanders confirmed he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain.

Sanders originally suffered the injury on the first drive of Week 9 against the Colts. He played well through the injury against Indy, but he struggled the next game against the Chiefs and did not look good in warmups before ultimately being ruled inactive Week 11. Sanders said he could have played against the Bears, but he was convinced sitting out to help the ankle heal fully was the best option. Sanders said Monday was the first day he got out of bed without limping, and it sounds like he has a good chance to play this week against New England. His status will be updated throughout the week.

I would bet he does play, but he probably won't be 100%,

Our second half defense is out of this world. Just like last year on our playoff run.

Where are they ranked in yards per game? Are they better than 16th? Because thats all I want.

Should be 15th in yards allowed now. 2nd still in sacks. Yards are overrated, this defense is awesome and will be better once Collins is back

And all week we are going to hear about the how dominant the Broncos' defense is and the Patriots' defense will barely be mentioned.

We'll also hear all week how the Pats snuck by the bills while looking bad. Yet they'll fail to mention that broncos didn't look that great against the bears and the bears could have won that game. After this game there is no one that can say "bills could have won that one"

Also kubiak's offense isn't going to run for 170 yards on this defense especially if Collins is back.

Another Belichick draft bust :)

Easley plus Brown...

I hope they swing a trade for one of the best defenders in the game before Denver.

Oh, wait, they get Jamie Collins back. Never mind.

Read somewhere that Collins is out.

IF they get Jamie Collins back. Missing 3 games with a stomach ache? Don't they have any Tums in the Patriots trainer's room?

manning has had 3 pick sixes so if you factor that then denver is actually 1st in PPG.

A nice write up on what we already know (this secondary is performing very well right now and Butler is a STUD!):

Patriots' Secondary Key to 10-0 Start | NFL Week 11

Malcolm Butler holds everything together at corner. His grade is slightly misleading, considering he’s asked to track the opposing team’s No. 1 receiver on most occasions. Butler has performed that role well, having recorded five green graded games (above +1.0) and just two red graded games (below -1.0) this season. He’s allowed 44 receptions from 77 targets for 691 yards, five scores, one pick, and 10 pass deflections. Only Eric Decker and Antonio Brown have gotten the better of him this year.

Equally important to the emergence of Butler, however, has been the improvement of Logan Ryan. After finishing with a negative coverage grade in 2014 (-0.9), he’s taken a big step forward in his third year as a pro. His coverage numbers are outstanding, as he’s allowed just 34-of-57 targets to end up as completions, with one touchdown, four interceptions, and five passes defensed. Overall, he’s allowing a QB rating of just 59.0, the seventh-best mark amongst corners so far this year. New England’s corners might be the best under-the-radar guys around.

I agree. However, I will caveat that Patriot's defenses have had difficulty with the Kubiak run blocking schemes in the past. Reversing course again, talent wise this Pats' DL has more consistently talented depth than likely the last four years combined.

So in the chess game, the assumption would likely be, load up on the run, double one of Denver's WRs and put all the pressure on Osweiler...right?

Damn. I was sitting here thinking that now that the defense is pretty set, what would the Patriots spend their first round pick on?

Oh. Right.

I don't see DEN scoring in the 20s. If they do it would be surprising.

BB knows the Shanahan/Kubiak offense cold.

I expect Thomas to be double and triple teamed. Sometimes Malcolm. Sometimes Ryan/DMC.

I don't expect Sanders to be a factor. You never know I guess...

I expect a lot of 2TE and DEN trying to run the football a lot.

I'm concerned about the secondary receivers like Davis and Daniels and Anderson on the checkdowns.

Pats will play a decent amount of base D/Big nickel. Could be another high snap count for Tavon.

This is the type of game where Collins would be huge but...

24-14 Pats.

manning has had 3 pick sixes so if you factor that then denver is actually 1st in PPG.

This is an important factor in a lot of ways actually when comparing the two defenses (both positively and negatively for the Patriots):

- More turnovers by Manning and the offense not only puts direct points on the board on pick sixes, it also sets the defense up in can't win situations (where even a three and out costs them a field goal). On the flip side, a turnover that starts a team in Broncos territory, cuts the potential yards allowed on that drive in half.

- Conversely, it seems like all of Brady's interceptions end up pinning the other team deep, and our special teams is top notch. With tough starting field position though, the Patriots are able to employ a bend but don't break style (which they love), because even two or three first downs may result in a punt. Combine that with more games where they're leading big, and it makes sense that they would allow fewer points, but give up more yards than the Broncos.

I think these are both EXCELLENT defenses.

I don't know whats more pathetic...

The fact that I know that these young ladies are freaking out at a One Direction concert or that I am less visibly - but equally excited that Easley and Brown are generating a kick-ass interior pass rush that hasn't been seen in these parts since Seymour and Jarvis Green.

I like to look at it this way. 1. They're idiots. 2. We're Patriots fans.
