I thought it was actually not a great throw, off target low and inside IIRC. That was a lot of what made it work out the way it did, Beckham's adjustment to make the catch turned him into open space and left McCourty throwing an inadvertent block on Butler.
Probably correct. McCourty read the route, but neglected to watch the football.

Not to say Revis is perfect, but these are bad examples. the first looks like zone coverage, the second is cover2 and Revis isn't responsible for the zone.
The first wasn't zone Revis was lined up over Ginn on the left side of the offense, and the second clip Ginn beat him on the spin move. All CBs get beat especially in this era of football with rules that favor the receivers and limit the physicality of CBs.

Disagree. His play against Beckham was as good as it gets, with the exception of that first pass. Even Pro Bowl corners aren't perfect. Other than that Butler was close to perfect. Not just the numbers, look at how he played. Beckham caught three total against Butler, including that first ball; Butler knocked down three other passes and stayed in Beckham's hip pocket through some good moves. When Beckham made his catches against Butler the tackling was great, immediate and vicious. Go watch the NFL Films clip of their battle (link early in this thread).

Agreed that Butler needs to compile a larger body of work, but he's grown since week one and is now at an elite level. As long as he does not regress he is at a Pro Bowl level now. So far his arc continues on an upward path, there's no reason to expect him to start slacking off now.

This thread's pretty long and I just went searching for it and couldn't find it. You mind posting it?

Here you go. Just reviewed it to confirm my recollection of that first catch. I was wrong. Ball was not perfectly thrown, but not as bad as I recalled. It was a little long, Beckham had to stretch instead of catching it in stride, that helped him turn and avoid McC.

Ya bad play but where the ball came down screwed him. Beckham had to turn in to catch it which put him in position to cut inside once he got it. If that ball was thrown slightly further McCourty which was what he was anticipating he tackles him.

That was classic Eli. He has more good bad plays than any player I've ever seen. Had he put the ball where he was actually trying to, it would have been a ~30 yard gain. Instead, he throws it too far inside to where McCourty could have broken it up with a better angle and it goes for 70.

Chris Simms may not think Brady is a top 5 QB, but he thinks Butler is a top 5 CB. He also said he's talked to execs that would take him over Sherman and Peterson.

Take it for what you will. Probably just talking out of his rear end. :D

Butler will get paid as early as this offseason. Bb pays great players early.

Idiots. They show #29 in the video. I'm sure LB would be a bad-ass in jamming the receiver at the line:D

Always gotta take Sims with a grain of salt. Not sure MB is top 5 but Top 10?

Hes is climbing. Fast.

No Desmond Trufant?

Played watkins way better than revis. He is becoming a top corner. Great game today

3 for 39, 2 in garbage time and 1 a highlight reel catch. Definition of shutdown against one of the top receivers in the game.

By top receivers in the game do you mean top 30, top 40? I'm not taking anything away from Butler. Watkins is an athletic and very capable player. But stat wise he's not very good. Again, not taking anything away from Butler. Most of Watkin's lack of production is probably due to the Bills weird offense.

Butler's awesome.

I think Watkins in a top receiver in terms of a #1 with talent. I think his lack of production has a lot to do with the Bills offense, but I understand the critique.

I must disagree with the notion that Sammy Watkins is a top receiver in the NFL. He's done nothing but make a handful of highlight catches, and even those are scarce. He's so overrated to me it's not even funny.

With that said, I feel Butler came back to earth just a tad. He didn't have a bad game by any means, but he had nowhere near the game he had last week. He was beat off the line a few times, and that's where he tends to struggle. If he gets a good jam, he's going to stick to the receiver like glue. If he gets beat at the line, he's in trouble. He also missed a tackle here and there. But still a very solid effort for the kid. He's legit, but that's been said before.

Didn't he also get flagged for PI?

Still, respectable job for a CB1 tonight. He is definitely establishing himself with a body of work beyond the fourth quarter last February.

Butler's just getting better. On sunday against sanders will be a big test.
