Jets waive Quinton Coples

Not that I think there is any chance they would get him but why assume it would be Siliga and Jones getting cut? Flowers could find himself on IR and Tavon Wilson or Brandon King could be released.

If you can't add to the secondary then add to the front 7.

Pats would be a pretty vast at DL

Cha. Jones
Ninkovich
Sheard
Brown
Easley
Hicks
Siliga
Chr. Jones
Grissom
Coples

And this is also the likely pecking order. So why bother? The guy was known for being lazy in college and hasn't done much at all with his NFL career in 4 seasons, why bring him in to be the 10th player on the DL?

And yes, I know that he was criminally misused as a Jet, we're still extremely stocked and need better depth at LB, WR, CB and RB before we add a reclamation project to the DL.

I'm all for adding a talented player who may simply need time to adjust to the system, but I'd rather do that in March, we need our roster right now for guys who can play anything but the one position we'd have a hard time running out of depth at.

I would be shocked, absolutely shocked if we cut Siliga. He is a top 15 run stopping DT.
Especially so that we can pick up that dog.

Coples was out of position in the Jets as both a OLB and a 3-4 DE. As a 4-3 DE and 3 tech DT on passing downs he would be fine.

I felt the same way about Coples. I thought he would have been better in a 4-3 DE.

Trey Flowers goes on IR?

I don't think you can put players that are not injured on IR.

I'm sure I can Voogle (Volin+Google) it but very curious to see which team has the worst record in drafting RD1 ad RD2 picks in the last 10 years. I would think that things like starts, probowls, all-pros, games and i guess AV would be factored in.

It has to be the Jets and the Browns with a slight edge to the Browns because they pick so high and so often. I would also include the Raiders but they've done well the past 2-3 years.

Jets half full perspective: At least he was better than Vernon Gholston and drafted a lot later.

Think I just heard him stub his toe, good enough?

If you don't take a little extra pleasure out of it because it's the Jets, I have some serious questions about you.

I'm not as obsessive about the Jets as most on this forum are. They are an original AFL team and I tend to, in various degrees, like them more than I do than the Giants and other NFL teams. That's just how I roll.

Were they the NY Titans in the AFL?

another bust by the jests!!!!
the never ending comedy fest!

and every team has waived someone who was drafted ahead of somebody else...

Your point is that the Jets blew a draft choice when they could of had someone else who outperformed that player? Welcome to the draft and the NFL.

Every team misses on a ton of draft gambles -- but a #16 overall draft pick not lasting to the end of his rookie contract is a still a pretty dramatic bust.

To be fair, the 2012 first round has been pretty spotty overall:

Which, of course, makes the fact that the Pats hit on both of their picks in the 2nd half of that round all the more impressive.

Interested in seeing if BB puts in a claim. Even if he doesn't get that far we will still know if there was interested in there. I just can't see BB passing up a guy that would cost about a $500k cap hit the rest of the season and could increase your DL depth even more unless he just doesn't rate him at all.
For the cap hit this year I wouldn't have a problem with it. The problem is that his 5th year option is already picked up for next year, and it's guaranteed for injury. So if we picked him up, and he got an injury that meant that he wouldn't be able to pass a physical before the start of the next league year we would be in a world of pain cap wise.

Dude isn't a bad DE. Just sucks as a LB. Whichever team picks him up could really luck out with a good player. Jets just didn't have room for him with our 3-4 scheme before and now, even with a 4-3 a lot of the time, we have better Dlineman ahead of him. Best for QC and the Jets this way.

Also kinda glad I don't have to see those arm brands anymore. Cringed everytime I saw 'em.
