Rodney: Pats might benefit from losing one

It's not too relevant a topic now but if we go another three weeks unbeaten the discussion has got to be there. How meaningful is 16-0 all over again? We've been there, done it and suffered the most agonising defeat in our team's history. As a fan I felt more pressure to win because I knew the ridicule we would get if we failed after winning all those games and choking the most important one away; imagine what the pressure was like on the team to achieve history.

if, and I don't see it happening, we are 15-0 and have the #1 seed locked up, I couldn't care less about playing for undefeated. Rest em all. I cared in 2007 but after the heartache I couldn't give a damn any more.

This is a fun topic and I respect all opinions. My take is this:

I vividly remember the tank-job that Polian ordered on the Colts that year. Peyton, with his helmet on, was furious and pacing on the sideline. Jeff Saturday was so pissed. He shook his head and said that nobody on his team would play a game they didn't want to win. Collectively, they couldn't believe it.

It's the ONLY time I ever felt sorry for the Colts!

Of course, at the same time, I was thrilled for the Pats, that the Colts would not get a 19-0 season.;)

19-0 is damn near impossible, and not the target. That having been said:

Think how much a 2015, 19-0 Patriots season would piss off Roger, the Other 31, the Networks, and all of The Haters! :D:D:D

I'm all for it, and I'm betting all of the Pats are as well.

Because of the way they treated the team and it's fan base for 8 months and counting, I can't help but think how euphoric it would make those people to see the Patriots fall short of a perfect season again

But....can't you just see their faces when they DO go undefeated.

That's enough right there to say I want it and I want badly, almost as much as #5.

That said, I think it IS going to happen and I've said it since the start of the season when I saw Brady's eyes.

How about he hits the guy instead of ripping at his arm. He hits him, no way he holds onto the ball.

Anything but reaching for the ball would have worked. The ball was hanging there by a thread.

We won 2 superbowls of which he was a big part of.Couldnt have played the tyree catch better. Wouldve won 2006 AFCCG if he had played. Dont know why some are so ticked off at perceived slightness as fans from anyone and everyone to trash even our crucial and great former players just because he gives an opinion .
Not all opinions are created equal. "Hello--you PLAY TO WIN THE GAME." We also won 2 SBs he was NOT part of. So your point is...?

I still don't know/understand how Harrison was unable to get his hand on the ball. Even a gentle hit on the ball would have knocked it free.

Point is there is no need to trash a player suddenly because he has an opinion which doesnt mesh with yours . If you call him out on HGH its the same as non pats fans saying pats players like rodney used HGH to win superbowls .He played for us not the jets so making fun of him on HGH is just calling out your own team. That makes you feel better ?
As hard and jilted fans feel about 2007, you thinks players dont feel that ? Somehow we kill those players as if they stole something from us only but it didnt matter to them. Look at seau's face after the burress TD's -face planted on the ground. Tells you all .
**** happens. Other teams makes a play sometimes.

Sorry if I immolated your sacred cow. If someone makes some sort of illogical comment (ex-Pat or not), I will freely exercise my Constitutional right to call him out.

Fourier Series said:

Rodney as a Patriot was great, and I respected him. Rodney as an analyst has been a huge failure and an embarrassment.

Failure...yeah...I guess that's why he's in his seventh year doing it...

How many years is it for Mort? o_O

A loss does not increase the odds of a win ... it's an inane concept that while interesting to discuss simply has no validity in how the Patriots are coached from week to week which is one game at a time.

Throwing a game doesn't make sense to me but I can't just handwave away comments by players from that 2007 team about the strain of going undefeated.

I agree. The fact that he even made a play on the Tyree catch was amazing because it was not his responsibility. He saw Asante's dumb ass leave Tyree and he tried to make the play. It was just one of those once in a lifetime moments. There was nothing he could do about it.

With that said, however, he will remain on my **** list. He didn't support Tom and even somewhat condemned him during defamegate, so F him until further notice.

For what it's worth, I just want to say that this has been one of the richest Threads I've read around here.

Lots of great Arguments on both sides, starting with those from Harrison and Brown, themselves.

And as much of an Opinionated Prick as I like to consider myself to be, I believe that there is no Right or Wrong on this ~ no Correct or False Answer ~ and that this is truly a Philosophical Matter.

01 ~ FootBall is an emotional Game, I'm sure we all agree, and as such I believe that there is a very real and substantial ~ though of course intangible ~ benefit to a Team of being released from the emotionally draining burden of a perfect Record. It's as if the Team has nothing to gain, yet everything to lose.

02 ~ On the other hand: While every Championship wins all of a Team's members ~ and to some degree its Fans ~ a little piece of Immortality...the first 19-0 Team would be remembered as a Legend.

Given the Choice, would we deliberately and knowingly take on more Risk ~ lessen our Chances of Winning It All by taking on the psychological burden of running an unbeaten Record into the Super Bowl ~ for the Chance at an Accomplishment that'd have folks forever regard our Team with Admiration and Awe?

It's a great Question.

They said the exact same thing in 2003. The Patriots started the season 2-2, then started winning. 7.... 8.... 9... 10 in a row....

A lot of "experts" said they should lose a regular season game because there's no way they could win 15 games in a row and it would be better to lose in the regular season than the playoffs.....
