Any prior service besides me have issues with this "salute the to military campaign"?

The other piece of context to this is the continuous attempts at associating football with military conquest, through language and artificial toughness. Yes, football can be demanding at times, but it shouldn't be compared or associated with battle.

I think it was Brady who ran a marathon and said that the runners were the toughest people he'd been around. That is, not football players.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Just say thanks and move on. There's worse things in life than people supporting us in the "wrong" way.

I like the clothing... Let's me combine .mil and the Pats in one shot... I really like od green hoodies

I don't mind a camo hat here or there but I just find it incredibly disrespectful how the coaches sideline jackets look like some kind of mockery of the uniform and that sleeve tab looks like some "Big Red 1" patch on LSD.

I just think it's a mockery of the military the way Nike is trying to make things a fashion statement and how they're just pimping new clothing lines in order to sell more product.

The new trend is to push corporate patriotism as cool and it really bothers me. I'm no strict military historian but there are certain things that have significance to those of us who served and I can't stand this false praise and corporate underpinnings.

Maybe I'm the only one.

End of rant.
All you need to know ...

I just don't like the fact that the NFL teams are getting paid to promote the military.

I have no problems with the US DOD paying and NFL teams accepting payment for the stuff they have. I don't view that any differently than the military paying TV stations to air recruiting ads.

What I have a major problem with is the NFL hiding the paid nature and acting like it's doing all this "honoring of the military" out of the kindness of its heart and its lies of omission to fool people into thinking the teams are acting in a charitable fashion toward the vets, etc., when in actuality they're doing it because they're being paid to do it.

I don't see why people have a problem with calling the SB champs the world champs considering nobody outside of America will beat that team.

They really are the best team in the entire world.

It's just like the pink with breast cancer awareness. It is not about supporting a cause; it is about being as loud as you can to draw attention to yourself supporting the cause for good P.R. value.

And hey, if that means they can make some $$ by selling some merch, all the better.
Next year, pink camouflage gear?

It's absolutely disgusting what some of these organizations have done collecting money that should be going towards these causes but taking a high majority of the donations. NFL doesn't do prostate cancer awareness which I believe is almost as deadly as breast cancer because it's not profitable.
The rate of prostate cancer among men is about the same as the rate of breast cancer among women. A higher rate of women die of breast cancer than men die of prostate cancer. However, the key statistic is the research money spent per death, and breast cancer receives more money per death than any other cancer, including prostate cancer. I wonder what people, including women who have lost husbands to prostate and other cancers, make of the NFL's one-sided pitch.

As a european fan I fully agree with that. There are teams outside of the US, but they are so far behind that it would probably be too dangerous for the to face an NFL team. The 32 NFL teams are by far the best football teams in the world, and the best NFL team is then the best team in the world.

Meh, if you signed on the dotted line and shipped and didn't quit in IET, you had the intent. Sometimes, **** happens. No disrespect here.

I feel different about quitters though.

Just imagine if American Football was an Olympic sport. America's team would be absolutely insane, it just wouldn't be fair.

Heh...

Israel would be trying to lure Edelman "You're half-Jewish right??"
Haiti would be all over Garcon.."you know you love us, Pierre!"
Poland would troll about 25 guys, starting with Gronk
And so on...

Right. Nike and the US Military are the same thing. That explains why LeBron James is out there right now risking his life to keep you safe while being paid close to minimum wage.

It's all the wearing of clothing which honors/displays a "tribe"/group/entity.

Not a big fan of the camo, but I have a much bigger problem with guys like Mort, Kensil, Goodell, etc. still having jobs.

Yeah, but I guess I just don't feel right acting like I'm a vet who pulled multiples.

It's not apples and oranges, at all. It's the same thing.

The Patriots jerseys and Nike swoosh aren't even the same thing.

In one case, you can be said to be pretending to be the player. (Ditto if you wear certain lines of basketball shoes.) In others you're taking pride in buying a logoed product, which I find odd, but there's no pretending.

I've never been into playing dress-up games, so jerseys do little for me, but at least I understand the feeling. It's the pride people take in YsL or Gucci or Apple logos that I find weird.

Don't forget Romo and Mexico.

That doesn't make it all the same. The point is perhaps easiest to see when the "tribe" is one we all disapprove of, such as the KKK or the Nazi Party.

That said, the axis of disagreement here is a different one, namely whether military "fans" are being disrespectful to actual military members.
