Ya but how many teams have anything after their top 3 CBs? Not a lot.
And the best part about that? Patriots can easy replace one of their corners compared, to Seahawks or Broncos :)

@MikeReiss: @moc77 King is tied for team-lead with 7 ST tackles. Don't see him going anywhere. One speculation thought: Coleman could be IR bound.

CBs that play man coverage need to use their hands. If he can't jam the receiver or tackle then his effectiveness is reduced considerably.

Whatever injury his has (wrist sprain, torn ligs, hairline fracture, etc) the team needed to immobilize it. Due to either the sheer pain/re-aggregating it, he needed to come out of the game last week.

I think Reiss is a pretty responsible reporter. He has a hunch and is basing it on I think what we are also seeing.

Make no mistake, losing Coleman to IR would really, really suck as Melvin didn't flash all that great vs NYG

Wow if we lose coleman. Hope reiss' s wrong. This team has been screwed with injuries.:(

Too much of a knee jerk reaction to Melvin. I read somewhere where he was targeted 4 times and allowed 2 completions. That doesn't sound horrific. Also, it isn't always easy to come off the bench in the middle of a game at perform at your best. Lets give the guy the benefit of the doubt for a couple of games before we designate him for the scrap heap like we've done so often with guys like Amendola, Edelman, Wendell, Chung, etc, etc, etc.

Remember how much we had to struggle to find positives in Butler's first couple of games, before he became everybody's favorite CB. The more he played, the better he got. Now let us give Melvin some time to get HIS feet wet and improve, before we throw him to the wolves

Melvin looked shaky, but he didn't look clueless. Seems like a confidence factor, as he's looked decent in old videos. Definitely worth working with because of height/athleticism.

I'm sure BB is going over his rolodex every day [probably actually has a rolodex, lol] but tryouts and PS are for looksees, he isn't going to keep signing and throwing guys out there. Patience and continuity will give confidence.

Look at Ryan, I had given up on him a couple months ago and i was supporter when others weren't. He's actually covering people and chung's covering people, not just laying back and being ball hawks.

I don't want to see a community auditions like in 2011. As we saw with the linemen, I think BB would rather have players he trusts who don't fit the position, rather than guys running around not knowing what's going on. Could be why he's stockpiling safeties until he has a full roster of CBs.

I support your patient outlook, but honestly, I can't. I've been impressed with Butler from the word "go" this year.

I have a hard time believing Coleman is going to be IRed. Even if Melvin improves, he has a ways to go before he reaches Justin's level.

For the season Melvin as 3-4 for 58 yrds allowed and a PI. Vs the NYG is was 2-3 for 48yds and PI call. Hes not flashing.

With that said when they signed him I supported it. When he was with BAL he was pretty good and the numbers lied when he played the Pats in last years playoffs. IMO he had his confidence destroyed vs NE. They are trying to rebuild him and it's not off to a great start. I agree, though. Too early to throw him in the trash.

coleman's gonna be ir'd? so much for playing with the cast.
now if butler/ryan go down we're doomed because melvin sucks.

bill should have open auditions just find some jag off the street and coach him up.

Thing about Melvin is the staff wants him on the team and not Fletcher, Swanson, Dixon or McClain.

That is a good amount of float sum and jetsam the Patriots have sifted through. If our 3rd CB position is still one of our weaker positions after 9 games I guess I am not surprised, but the team has worked to get the best player they can find.

I was impressed that Coleman recovered a fumble with his cast on.

I would bring ALL of Fletcher, Swanson, Dixon & McClain to Foxborough, plus Glas-IR & Fonzie Dennard, plus UFAs Tim Jennings, Jumal Rolle, Demontre Hurst & Jalil Brown, work out ALL of
them, and then sign AT LEAST 2 of them. The CB situation currently is a complete feckin joke.

Coleman has been downgraded to out for Monday. Retains roster spot.
Patriots Injury Report: Jamie Collins Out vs. Bills

That stinks about Coleman, Melvin looked shaky at best on Sunday. I guess it's a good think we are playing Buffalo, who really shouldn't hurt us too bad with the third wide out. I'm surprised we haven't seen Swanson, I thought he showed flashes both last spring and this spring.

I think Buffalo definitely can threaten us. As a division opponent they know the way to the division title is through us so much time and energy has been spent on getting a team that can beat us.

Buffalo today seems as dangerous an opponent as Cincinnati or Denver in a playoff game.
