1st game 6-2 loss .............. let the rebuild begin because there are going to be more of these.

My wish for the season is to trade any veteran assets that will bring a haul of young talent.

On that note ... it's going to be a long season - do the right thing Don Sweeney.

you are right...let the rebuild begin. This is going to get ugly but we have to realize what we are this year. We need to rebuild while getting young guys some playing time.

I was at opening night...awful.....tonight...that BS goal waved off? And that BS garbage hit by emelin? **** that team

Yeah the zebras were awful last night, worthy of all the screw-job games we suffered in the old Forum. 5 minutes for that hit by Spooner? Ridiculous.

All that aside, Matt Irwin simply cannot suit-up here any longer, at least not until he learns how to play actual defense. I would recall Tommy Cross as our 4th LH Dman and send Irwin to Providence.

Interestingly, Irwin was put on waivers after 2 games.

Get used to it ... a staple of the season.

The Clod Face…he should've kept the goatee.

But seriously folks, the talent from 1-23 on this team is closer to top-4 in the next draft than it is to top-8 in the conference.

Rask at $7M/year is looking more & more like another awful ChiaPet re-signing,
and trading two 2nd-rounders (acquired for Boychuk) to Tampa for Connolly is at least one 2nd-rounder too many.

I agree.........

If Sweeney plays his cards right he has pieces to deal at the trade deadline ...
Players that can help a team get over the top for the playoffs.
Rask - Krecji - Seidenberg - Chara .... can bring some decent draft picks or youth.

I'd keep Bergeron and Pastarnak only ... everyone else available.
I like our 2015 draft picks .... we need a few more like it.

youve come around on trading rask? the team needs a major overhaul. they are headed to the top of the draft.

If MacIntyre shows in Providence that he is the Future in net for Boston (I have no faith in Subban whatsoever), then I would absolutely trade Rask to the highest bidder at the deadline,
along with Chara, Seidenberg & Kelly.

Krejci I would be much more reluctant to deal, even with his over-paid contract. This team simply cannot afford to trade away offense.

Good game last night at the Gahden, finally. It was also obvious that Phoenix was tired and just wanted to go home.

Krejci is on fire. Maybe having a younger & faster (& fellow countryman) Pasternak on his wing has made him keep up the speed.

Rask also finally played a consistent game, and Goose should be able to give him more time off.

Too bad they don't have a better #3 RH Dman than Game-Killer Kevin Miller or Zach tRotman.

Going up Thursday to the game.

Honestly, the B's have surprised me with their ability to put the puck in the nest so far this year. Methinks that Krejci and Eriksson getting off to a good start has everything to do with it. Add a consistent Marchand and Bergeron and the points add up. Of course, Jimmy Hayes is in the mix and Spooner isn't doing too badly. We need to get Brett Connolly and Belesky hot...and Pastrnak back. Frank Vatrano is an interesting player..was lighting up the lamp in Providence...comes up and didn't look like he was star-struck. I hope he find his way into the league this year and becomes that player who came out of nowhere...like Marchand seemed to do.

I was a Colin Miller fan before he made the team; believe he's a top 4 guy. He looks great out there and should continue to improve. Let's hope Joe Morrow- who looks pretty good -does the same.

Gustavsson looks great in net. Rask does not. I'll stop there.

Overall, the team looks...OK; has had their winning and losing streaks. They threw the Montreal game away...pity, as they stayed right with them until the last minute. However, I'm not going to beat up Krejci on that. How knows; he stated it; and he's off to a great start. Hopefully, he can stay healthy for a full season.

Will this team make major deals during the year? We'll see.

My take: This team is a great opportunity for players like Connolly, Morrow, Miller, Vatrano, Spooner, Trotman and Gustavsson. They should take advantage of it. Opportunities to get playing time and get placed on decent lines in the NHL are not abundant, Surely they know this by now? Boston fans want to embrace the up-and-comings; are waiting for the next Brad Marchand to stick around. In my opinion, these guys are capable. They just have to develop the attitude that says: Ya know what? It's not sufficient that I made the team. And it's still hockey at any level. Let me go out and have my best game every game.

I hope you arrived in time to watch the first half of the first period. Too bad they sucked for the rest of the game.

Game-killer Kevin Miller sucks. He & Seidenberg comprise the Worst pairing in the League.

Yes I was there for the whole game, drive from CT want too bad

Is anyone else having a big problem with the B's home record and Rask's play this year?

If you read my last posts- the one before the 3-2 home loss to COL -then you'll plainly see that I'm a pretty optimistic B's fan. However, I'll also put it down when if/when they start playing like they did last year. Which brings me to...another home loss and Rask in net. Sorry, readers, his whopping .892 save % just isn't cutting it; not befitting of a #1 goalie making the big bucks. On the other hand, Gustavsson is playing pretty well; giving the team a chance to win (more) games. FYI: there's actually just about a 1 GAA difference between the performance of these two. That's huge! And I'm seeing it in the games (i.e. the types of goals being let in).

For the past 5 years, Rask has been a .93 Save % guy (.925 career) with GAA close to 2.00, except for last year where it ballooned up to 2.3...still very good. If this team is going to make a run, he's going to have to improve his game.

And on the team level, this team seems to be missing out on home games/wins. They're 6-2 away and 1-5-1 at home. This is unsatisfactory; befitting of a bottom of the division team. If a team can win periods, they can win games. If they're not, then they're simply not playing 3 periods. Hopefully, they can begin to turn this around starting, today, against DET.

Interestingly- and thankfully -the B's began their first step in turning around their home ice debacle. The team is now 2-5-1 at home. And a 3-1 victory over a decent DET team is a good start towards fixing the problem(s). However, it is not enough to sit back and show us that they can. Rather, they must do...and we know they can.

Right now, there is a log-jam in the middle of the conference. It's time to start pulling away from the pack and not get left behind (i.e. like last year) because they decided not to play 60 minutes over here; took a stupid penalty over there; etc, etc...

Here's my take: Any team that can put the puck in the net like they are doing should be winning more games, particularly with a goalie who has maintained close to a 2.00 GAA for the past 5 years. And don't blame the defense, as Gustavsson has played well. In fact, look for teh defense to improve, as the season rolls on. It's not enough that Rask has a decent game. He needs to be consistently good. Last night, he played OK...made 22 saves...not a lot, but sufficient for the 3-1 win.

Bottom line: when a team/players slumps, they need to be consistently good just to make up for the slump...which gets them back to .500. This is not sufficient. You slump; you pay. And the payment is a winning streak that surpasses the slump in terms of wins. There's a tendency to ride a winning streak that simply gets the team back in it. However, if it does not continue from that point, they just fall back out of contention, again. And at that junction, what did the winning streak really prove? That they can win games if/when they play hard? Methinks it's much easier to be consistently good, as opposed to playing slump against (winning) streak...and a lot less stressful.

Ramble at ya latah...cheers!

I stand by this opinion still ... I am not impressed and they need an almost total D rebuild.

Up front they can compete with any NHL team.

On D .... they are closer to the AHL than the NHL and in the playoffs that's crap.

When all 4 of Chara, Seidenberg, tRotman & Kevin the Game-Killer Miller are dressed, and Rask is playing behind them, and the game's at home, then you are almost guaranteed a loss.

There is no way that the Bs can go on a winning streak with all those crap Dmen playing at the same time.

In my opinion, Gus should play more games. Let Rask earn some of those starts back, instead of playing him all the time, by default. In fact, play Gus for more of the HOME games. However, there's a problem with this strategy, even though it is designed to win more games; get the B's into the play-offs. And that is that it involves money; essentially over-paying for a goalie (i.e. Rask).

Is it all on the defense? How come Gus wins more frequently (e.g. per start) and typically only gives up a few? But when Rask goes in- particularly at home -it's 4, 5 and more in the B's net? And this is not opinion, it's an observation that can be backed up by the stats. So what, we can't play Rask at home or at against Montreal any more? Hmmmnnn...that's a lot of games.

Am I against Rask? Do I not like him? I don't even know him. However, I'm just pointing out what I've observed so far this year. He's letting in a lot of goals; Gus is not...behind the same defense. I wonder if Gus were not in goal, if the results would be the same? Obviously, Rask is off to a bad start. And here's the kicker: The B's seem to be winning a lot of the game where only a few went in on their end, as they don't seem to be having (major) problems scoring this year.
